  1. I remember when it DID just used to be 30 old dudes in a Marriott banquet room. It was just as entertaining then. I'm actually kind of excited about it.
  2. Does anybody other than the people who were planning to attend the draft give even half a damn whether there are fans there to witness it or not? As long as the draft goes on and isn't delayed, I couldn't care less whether it's just in a room at a Marriott or whether it takes place on a blimp over New Zealand. Who cares? Just give me rookies!
  3. This is exactly what I want to see happen. Fill remaining defensive holes and depth needs in free agency -- there are plenty of great linebacker, DT, CB, and edge options -- and use just about the entire draft on offense. The defense already has a young, homegrown core and just needs a few vet additions. The offense, meanwhile, just GOT its infusion of vets last year in Brown, Beasley, Kroft, Spain, Feliciano, and Nsekhe, and needs some young, dynamic playmakers to grow with Josh Allen. Luckily, the WR, OT, and RB crops this year are all excellent.
  4. I agree that they believe in him fully, and that they think he'll get a lot better this season. I don't disagree with them! I also think Beane is a "hedging your bets" type of guy, and that he'll bring in a body at tackle, whether through the draft or free agency. The fact that when they were asked about what position Ford would play in his second season, they didn't just say "tackle", but were instead non-committal, tells me that they realize it's not a sure thing he pans out at that position. If they were 100% in on Ford as a tackle, they would have just replied "he's a tackle".
  5. Beane is no fool. He saw what we all saw at RT. I'd bet anything that he brings in SOME kind of meaningful competition for Ford, because I also think he wants Nsekhe to be the swing tackle, ideally.
  6. This is great. While the offensive line still has room to improve, this will keep the left side in place. I didn't want to see them completely re-make the offensive line AGAIN this year. At some point, you need continuity there. The Bills can now concentrate on upgrading the right side of the line, whether that's in the form of a new right tackle or some competition at guard for Jon Feliciano. I also believe that Dion Dawkins benefitted greatly, and will continue to benefit, from having a smart, solid veteran next to him. All in all, there was simply no need to let a good guard, who fit in well with our team and didn't allow a single sack all year , leave in free agency. I'll leave it with Josh Allen's quote about Spain: “He’s a really good dude. I love him and I wish we’d get him back too. If I had a say, we’d have in back,” Allen said in January. “He’s just one of those guys that you want on your team. He’s a team guy, he communicates well to the guys, he gets along with everybody in the locker room, he’s good presence and when he goes out on the football field and plays really well. I hope he knows that I love him and that’ll never change.”
  7. We are in the veerrry beginning stages of this thing affecting America. I'm not being alarmist, I'm just being realistic. Things are going to get serious over the next couple weeks. We'll see if the NFL holds fats to its "we're not gonna change a thing!" ethos. As it is, I expect an announcement cancelling the public/crowd aspects of the draft any minute now.
  8. Yeah....I don't think there are going to be any more pre-draft visits this year.
  9. Irrelevant to the conversation. Don't want this to turn into an argument/debate/political agenda thread. Just reporting the potential news as it pertains to the NFL.
  10. Not confirmed at this point, but with the NBA, MLS, and soon to be NHL suspending their seasons, and with the NFL sending all non-essential personnel home until further notice, don't be surprised if the start of the new league year -- and all that goes with it, including free agency and the draft -- is delayed.
  11. I have yet to see any reputable source confirm a Bills visit. Some Twitter accounts that I like, such as Cover 1, have stated that it's going to happen, but I haven't seen any of what I would consider "official" sources. Not sure what to think.
  12. I think it's too early to say that it would definitely force Ford to be a full time RT. They could trade for Jackson, and then the draft could come around and one of the "big four" offensive tackles could still be on the board at 22. Or they could sign a tackle in free agency who has a softer market than anticipated. In that scenario, you have Ford compete with Feliciano at guard. While Feliciano was a good offensive lineman last year, he wasn't a GREAT one, and his ability at guard and center would give the Bills excellent depth.
  13. It’s the epidemiology best guess by the AHA. Not a doomsday scenario, as you say, but a reasonable analysis and projection by experts. If you want to tell yourself everything’s fine and ignore the warnings of experts and trained professionals, knock yourself out. People react differently to fear. Your reaction appears to be denial. That’s your prerogative. For others, heeding the warnings of experts seems a more reasonable course of action.
  14. The water/TP stuff is ridiculous. There's no reason for it. I ESPECIALLY don't understand the bottled water thing. Like...do people think the municipal water systems are going to be shut off for some reason? The toilet paper buy-up is also absurd. Hand sanitizer is a great thing to have, but people shouldn't panic and buy 10 cases of the stuff. Over-buying of things like hand sanitizer and surgical masks causes a shortage of those products, such that those that actually NEED them -- like healthcare workers -- can't get them. In short, unnecessary over-buying makes the problem worse. I won't even pretend to know enough about finance to comment on how the market should or shouldn't react. For me, it's simple: a global pandemic being a fairly serious thing and the news media being fear-mongerers are not mutually exclusive. COVID-19 IS a serious issue. The American news media generally DO generate their best viewership/clicks numbers by pedaling fear. Just because the news media behaves this way, though, doesn't mean that the problem being reported on isn't serious. As stated above, half a million Americans could die by this. That's serious. What upsets me, though, are the people who completely disregard the seriousness of the virus altogether, just because they dislike the media's coverage of it. In my opinion, it's a defense mechanism for people who are scared but don't want to admit it. It's much easier to get angry at a "media perpetrated hoax" than it is to confront the idea that you or a loved one might contract a serious virus, or that half a million Americans could die. There's a healthy medium (not a great choice of words in this instance): Take the virus seriously, follow basic and rational suggestions like ample hand washing, social distancing, self-quarantining when sick, avoiding large crowds, and regularly checking for CDC and WHO updates. That doesn't mean one should panic, buy a year's supply of toilet paper and bottled water, and board up their windows and doors and refuse to come out for a year. Me, personally? I went out and bought a good amount of non perishable food items, basic medicines (Advil, cold medicine, etc), and a couple of bottles or hand sanitizer. I did this because I can foresee a possibility of city-wide lockdown where I live, as reported case numbers grow exponentially and those within the city panic. I can also foresee possible infection in my household, because I work at an enormous hotel and regularly come into contact with people from all over the world, with their luggage, and with huge conferences/conventions, so stocking up in anticipation of potential self-quarantine seemed wise. My wife and I continue to evaluate daily the best courses of action to take or not take going forward. Be smart, be safe, be realistic, but don't panic. And for the love of god, don't pretend that this is just a "made up media hoax". It's not.
  15. As someone who believes that strength in the trenches is neck and neck with quarterback as far as "most important to a football team", I would LOVE it if the Bills signed Reader. That being said, I feel like Beane's MO in the past has been to sniff around lots of guys that ultimately wind up being out of their price range. Put another way, I'll believe Beane is going to spend $12million per year on another 1T when I see it. Again, if the plan is to have him REPLACE Star, then I could see it, but in that case, I believe they would have cut Star outright rather than ask him to take a paycut. I hope I'm wrong, because in my opinion, Reader's a beast.
  16. Between his old friends and teammates Jordan Poyer and Micah Hyde being here, the world class recovery facilities that would help him stay healthy, and the way that this scheme would unlock his full potential -- the Bills seem like the best fit for him. That being said, if the Bills envision him in Lorenzo's old spot, I could see him choosing a different team in order to get more snaps. He'd likely be off the field for at least 30% of defensive snaps in Buffalo. I really hope we land him. He would be an EXCELLENT fit in this scheme and would provide tremendous leadership in a locker room suddenly somewhat in need of more of it.
  17. Sure. It's the link that Hapless posted in this very thread. https://medium.com/@tomaspueyo/coronavirus-act-today-or-people-will-die-f4d3d9cd99ca Note the bottom right corner: "US: 480,000 deaths". And before you say it -- Yes, this is "Best Guess Epidemiology", but unless someone can show me a more reasonable/logical/scientifically sound/trustworthy way to project these things, I'll go with the experts. Even if they're over-estimating (doubtful), and it's 200,000 deaths, that's still more than 3x the amount of people killed in the most recent serious flu season. It's newsworthy.
  18. Forgive me, but this is just ignorant. Full stop. Feeling that way is a luxury that people who don't live in affected areas and/or who aren't in the "at risk" category get to have. If there were multiple confirmed cases in your county and/or you or your spouse was immunocompromised, something tells me you'd feel differently. There's a very real chance that this thing is going to wind up killing around 500,000 people in the United States. If you don't think that's reason enough for ample news coverage and significant changes to the way we go about our daily lives, I don't know what to tell you.
  19. "Star Sucks" camp: Mike Clay ScottLaw Turk71 "Star doesn't suck" camp: Brandon Beane Sean McDermott Lorenzo Alexander I know whose opinion I'm giving more credence to.
  20. If I was running the team, I would absolutely draft Tua. Quarterback is THE MOST IMPORTANT POSITION IN FOOTBALL. Does anyone here really mean to tell me that they'd rather have Dwayne Haskins than Tua?! Furthermore, this is likely Ron Rivera's LAST head coaching opportunity in the NFL. Why not draft a near sure thing at QB to ensure that the tenure is a success? Besides, while Chase Young is an elite pass rusher, it isn't like their cupboard at defensive line is barren. They have Montez Sweat, Johnathan Allen, and Daron Payne. They can also take another high quality edge rusher with the 34th pick if they so choose. All of that being said....it wouldn't surprise me one bit of defensive minded Ron Rivera took Chase Young or traded down for more picks to speed up the rebuilding process. I don't think it's wise, though. If you don't already have a franchise QB and someone you believe to be one is there at your pick, you take him. Haskins has done nothing in college or the pros to make anyone think that he's good enough to justify passing on a talent like Tua.
  21. Have you taken a look at ScottLaw's post history? I'm guessing not.
  22. Opinions of professional NFL general manager and a head coach who is one of the top five defensive minds in the NFL, not to mention a long time pro like Lorenzo Alexander? Bupkus. Opinion of Two Bills Drive message board member ScottLaw? Gold. Unimpeachable.
