  1. Amazingly, the testing date has always been on 4/20. Too much of a coincidence to be a coincidence.
  2. Well... When a team trades up in the 1st round to select an offensive tackle, and then suddenly they want to trade him away the very next year....there must be a reason. Nobody instantly gives up on a 1st round player at a premium position without there being some kind of reason why. As such, I would want to fully investigate what that reason is before I'm willing to send them an offensive lineman that I like a lot and who I think can be a starter for the next decade, and who DOESN'T have any off-field problems or concerns. And assuming there IS such a reason, the team acquiring Dillard would be taking some degree of a risk. I don't want to trade away a guy I think can be at least a very good guard and who I feel really good about for a player who most likely has some sort of issues that are causing his drafting team to give up on him so soon. In short: trading a guy that fits in well on my team and who I think can be a good lineman for years for a guy who likely has some sort of major shortcoming seems like a bad -- or at least very risky -- idea.
  3. Obviously it's very strange and uncommon to want to trade away a player you selected in the 1st round just one year into his career. It's even stranger when he plays a premium position, and it's stranger STILL when you used extra picks to trade up for that player. The speculation -- and it is just that -- is that Dillard is really soft. That he had a hard time with Philly fans, that he's a quiet loner type. Something about crying in the locker room after a tough game. Again, this is total wild internet speculation, but that's what I read.
  4. Given that MOST rookie tackles have uneven rookie seasons, I can't help but wonder: If a "true tackle" had been drafted and had exactly the same season Cody Ford just had, would everyone be saying "bump him inside to guard", too? Or would they say "he was a rookie, he'll get better, give him some time"? It seems like the majority of armchair experts have decided that Ford can't/won't improve, and therefore has to change positions. Again, would they reach this same conclusion for more of a "true tackle" prospect? It's just weird to me that so many people are already so sure that he just CAN'T play tackle, despite having stretches during the season where he performed quite well there.
  5. Milano misses ONE (difficult) tackle in a visible moment in the playoffs....and suddenly everyone wants to let him walk or say he "struggles to tackle". Ridiculous. He'll be re-signed, as he should.
  6. LOL. I'm sorry, but getting the Bills from where they were, salary cap wise, to where they are now, in just two years...absolutely illustrates why I'm happy the Bills have Brandon Beane. As far as his "track record of overspending on free agents", I have news for you: When you're a rebuilding team that hasn't touched the playoffs in 17 years and play in a cold and undesirable city, you're going to have to overpay a bit to get certain guys to come here. You can get bottom barrel, replacement level players for their "correct value", sure, but in order to get the Mitch Morses of the world via free agency, you're going to have to overpay. I would also argue that Morse is not overpaid. He is also no longer the highest paid center in the league. And if you want to argue that Star is overpaid, that's fine, but I'll take the top three defense the Bills have now -- of which Star is a crucial part -- and you can keep the lackluster unit that preceded his arrival. Deal? Besides all of the above, my original post referred to overall salary cap management and position group allocation. If you were to go through the different position groups on the Bills roster, you wouldn't find any one position group that takes up a disproportionate amount of the salary cap. Why? Because Beane is good at managing the salary cap. Allocating 25% of the cap to one position group? Not smart cap management.
  7. Jaquan Johnson's play as the season went along, and in the Jets game in particular, HAS to have the Bills thinking twice about giving Poyer more money. They could let him play out this year and then have Johnson on a cheap deal for the next two seasons. I also believe the Bills will be drafting a safety higher than many might guess come April.
  8. Dawson Knox showed enough in his rookie season that Bills fans should be extremely excited about his potential going forward. He has the speed, contested catch ability, and blocking ability to be a top 5 tight end for the next decade. He obviously needs to work on catching the ball more consistently, but...considering how raw he was, and how many big plays he made as a rookie, the arrow is pointing waaaay up with this kid. When it's all said and done, the Bills' two third round picks last year could end up being the best players of the Bills' entire draft class.
  9. True. I still don't think it's EVER wise to invest 25% of your salary cap into one position group. It would be difficult to convince me that that's an intelligent way to build a roster.
  10. 25% of the cap on just the secondary? Seems like a bad idea. I'm glad we have Brandon Beane, who seems to be a salary cap savant, instead of John Elway.
  11. Love the trade-downs. Love 'em. Points for originality, without abandoning realism. Well done.
  12. "The Jets killed Karl!" ? I especially liked how they went into specific detail, talking about things like Austin Sefarian-Jenkins' non-catch in the end zone in 2017, passing on Deshaun Watson, Darnold with mono, etc. Larry David is a huge Jets fan. He called Mike Maccagnan before the 2018 draft to tell him to take Lamar Jackson, and MacCagnan just laughed at him, apparently.
  13. I understand that line of thinking, but I wouldn't call it worthless. Trai Turner is a 5x Pro Bowler, so inserting him at RG would definitely upgrade the line. Feliciano played fairly well there, sure, but he's not as good as Trai Turner. Having Turner at RG and Feliciano/Long/Boettger competing at LG allows Ford to stay at tackle for the time being. Hopefully, they'd also draft or sign competition for him at that position. If and when they decide to move Ford to guard, he can compete at left guard, which was his college position. If he's as talented as everyone seems to think, he wins that job and relegates Feliciano to depth at G/C. Feliciano's contract is not untenable, even if he is relegated to backup. They need to get another tackle to compete with Ford regardless, in my opinion, but I don't see why that should preclude them from adding a top 5 guard.
  14. Right. Except if you actually READ what I posted above, it stated that I felt it would be more prudent to TRADE AJ Green, not let him walk out the door. This way, they could bring in a blue chip WR prospect from this stacked draft class to grow alongside Burrow, instead of hanging on in vein to a 31-year-old receiver coming off of a foot injury who possibly doesn't want to be there any more. Trading Green wouldn't leave the cupboard bare, either. Tyler Boyd is a 1,000 yard receiver, and recent 1st rounder John Ross had 500 yards in 8 games before getting injured last year. But please continue to condescend to everyone.
  15. I just don't get it for the Bengals. This guy was a good soldier for the Bengals for years. He's 31 years old and the team is clearly in rebuilding mode. Why not reward him by freeing him to pursue a team that is in the hunt for a championship? Not only that, but once the "rebuilding" writing was on the wall, they could have traded him and actually reaped some value. Going into next season, instead of a 31 year old AJ Green, they could have, say a 2nd round pick in a stacked WR draft. I just don't get it. Can't imagine Green's happy about it, either.
  16. Yeah. Cover 1 and Chris Brown both called him a Will, and I was dubious. Then, Brandon Beane himself said the same and Lorenzo confirmed it on Twitter. In terms his size and physical profile and where/how he lined up, we all assumed he was a Sam. I'll be honest, I didn't know a defense COULD have two Wills, but I'm not going to question the GM and the player himself.
  17. There seem to be a plethora of good linebackers available this year in free agency, and the Bills clearly need to replace Lorenzo Alexander. I hope this is the route they choose. Kyle Fackrell, Joe Schobert, Blake Martinez, Jamie Collins, Nick Kwiatkowski, Danny Trevathan, and De'vondre Campbell will all likely hit the market. Depending on what the Bills want in a 2nd Will linebacker (I always thought Alexander played SAM, but Beane corrected that notion the other day), they could go a number of different directions. Personally, I like Fackrell because he also offers value as a pass rusher on 3rd down, and De'Vondre Campbell, because he's still young and would fit in nicely as an athletic linebacker who can play the run and cover fairly well. I'm fine with a draftee, too, but with a bunch of offensive needs, not to mention corner, safety, and edge, I think they ought to pick from the above crop instead.
  18. I've lived in Portland, Oregon for about 6 years now, and plastic grocery bags have been banned the whole time. Somehow, life goes on. Society doesn't crumble. Dog ***** doesn't go un-picked-up. It's fine. No one even talks about it. Everyone just adjusted and went on with their lives. Amazing.
  19. Agreed. I would rather just re-sign Shaq Lawson, who is exactly what you just described, but who already has 4 years of seasoning and who we already know fits in well with the locker room. It would be completely illogical to me to let Lawson walk and then draft Epenesa. Spinning our wheels.
  20. It’s a tie. Both from the games you’d probably expect : Watching CBS get a turkey leg specifically because Josh Allen said he always dreamed of eating one after a Turkey Day win, then watching him and Tre eat it on the field IN DALLAS...priceless. Josh’s 3rd down TD throw to Tyler Kroft in Pittsburgh. That was a big boy play in a big boy moment.
  21. This was my first response to you. REALLY "condescending" stuff ?
  22. Gotta love a guy who posts something on a MESSAGE BOARD, and then gets irate at and/or insults anyone who dares to disagree or post counterpoints. Perfect discourse.
  23. Ever heard the phrase "past performance is not indicative of future results"? To state that what Beane has down in TWO drafts indicates what he's going to do in this draft -- or that anyone who offers an alternative strategy that doesn't match up with what Beane has done in his two previous drafts is being unrealistic -- is an over-simplified and logically inadequate line of thinking. I'm not arguing just to argue. I'm arguing because you posted a thread positing a draft strategy, I replied positing a different strategy, you told me it stinks and backed up that claim with in illogical line of reasoning, REFUSED to read, digest, or consider my explanation for my alternative strategy, and then accused ME of being overly argumentative! If you didn't want anyone to comment on or potentially disagree with your thread, why did you even post it? What's the point of a message board if not to interact? Are only replies that AGREE with your original post allowed? Sheesh.
  24. Yep. You got me again. Two whole drafts worth of history is TOTALLY enough to support your conclusion that Beane will never, ever trade down. Nailed it.
