  1. Thinking they want a usable tight end on the practice squad. To look a little more deeply, perhaps they're aware that blocking is not the strong suit of any of the three tight ends on their roster, and want to have one who IS a blocking specialist, should they feel the need to call him up for a particular week to execute a certain gameplan. Perhaps we'd see a week where Quintin Morris is inactive but Blanton gets called up, and they use him as an extra blocker in the run and/or pass game.
  2. Bingo. I believe the Bills HAD to do some cap maneuvering just to become cap compliant. That's what these moves were about.
  3. There was a thread about it recently, but I'll reiterate what I think makes it this forum so great: Great posters, great posts, frequency of posts, variety of discussion topics, and great moderation. Combine all that -- and throw in a clean, easily navigable interface that doesn't hurt the eyes to look at and isn't cluttered up with pinned threads and other nonsense -- and you have the best NFL discussion forum on the internet.
  4. Loved Jimmy a whole lot. This one hit hard. There's maybe not a single pop culture figure whose life I would more have wanted to live than Jimmy's. Flying sea planes, sailing boats, island hopping, playing music that brought joy to millions, writing books, and generally being a modern day pirate and scalliwag. What a life he led. He's somewhere on the ocean now, the place he oughta be with one hand on starboard rail, he's wavin' back at me.
  5. Texans fans will tell you that Kirksey was a liability last year. It's weird, because on the one hand, he's been a captain and is clearly a good leader and communicator, and has good statistical production. On the other hand, the Texans surely had a good reason to release him -- I don't buy that it was ONLY because of injury. What I suspect is that he's going to bring certain strengths to this defense, and he'll be lacking in other areas. I think he'll be a good run defender, and more importantly, a good communicator and organizer of the defense. I think he'll earn the green dot and will end up being the leader of the second level of the defense. What I think he'll lack is in the area of pass defense. Ultimately, though, while I don't expect him to maybe be quite as good as some Bills fans are envisioning, I DO think he'll be an upgrade over Tyrel Dodsen, particularly as a leader and communicator.
  6. This is the key point to me. I live in Oregon and my wife works in cannabis, and it is positively INSANE what these companies have to go through to do their banking. Totally unreasonable. As for rescheduling cannabis -- and, frankly, full federal legalization -- it's long past time. There is no legitimate reason whatsoever for cannabis to be a schedule 1 drug or to be illegal in any state. It's preposterous and prehistoric. If nothing else, the revenue that states can make from taxing cannabis is absolutely massive, and any state not reaping those rewards is making a huge mistake. End the madness. Reschedule cannabis and end all state and federal prohibition. It's time.
  7. For those mentioning Carson Wentz or other "name brand" QBs: You probably shouldn't hold your breath. I expect that they want someone to do what Matt Barkley would be doing on the practice squad: Running scout team offense and giving practice reps to the reserve WRs. It's almost certainly going to be a young, cheap, fringe, no-name type guy that screams "practice squad QB" and nothing more. I don't think they're bringing in a legitimate (relatively speaking, since no one available right now is any good) quarterback to learn the playbook and then get called up and replace Kyle Allen. That's not what I think they're after.
  8. Hallelujah. If Dodsen stinks the first few weeks, hopefully Bernard or Kirksey can step in and take over. I'm not foolish enough to think that Kirksey is a be-all, end-all solution at MLB, but he has certainly proved to be more productive -- and a more capable leader -- over the course of his career than Dodsen has.
  9. Of those listed so far, I'm happy about Andy Isabella, Tyrell Shavers, and DJ Dale. I think the former could help the Bills with depth and special teams play this season, and I think the latter two are good young players that have a shot to contribute in future seasons.
  10. Don't get me wrong -- I like Andy Isabella and I predicted and hoped the Bills would add him to the practice squad. But if you follow Bills football, you can't help but notice there's an "Andy Isabella" every year. Drew Hadaad, Martin Nance, Da'Rick Rodgers, Namaan Roosevelt...the list goes on and on. Find someone that loves you the way Bills fans love bottom-of-the-roster preseason darling WRs.
  11. Bills fans becoming irrationally attached to a long shot wide receiver that has a nice preseason.
  12. Carson Wentz aint Josh Allen.
  13. It's like the time they asked Peyton Manning's coach why his backup didn't get more practice time, and the coach's response was "Because if Peyton goes down, we're *****, and we don't practice *****". Folks -- if Josh Allen goes down, the Bills are *****. Whether it's Kyle Allen, Tim Allen, or Allen Ginsberg, the Bills aren't going anywhere without #17.
  14. It's just really hard for me to believe that Christian Kirksey (124 tackles, 3 sacks, 2 INTs last season) isn't better than Tyrel Dodsen right now. I get that he'd have to learn the defense and it might take him a minute to earn the green dot, but...no one can convince me that Kirksey -- even at 30 years old -- isn't an upgrade at MLB for this Bills team.
  15. Leonard Floyd had 9 sacks last year and Groot had 8 sacks despite missing four games. Not exactly the Purple People Eaters, but I don't know that I'd call it "lackluster".
  16. Not sure if anyone has said this yet, but... In football (and probably other sports), it has become increasingly common for coaches, GMs, and broadcasters, when referring to an injury, to simply state the body part. Like: "He's gonna be out a while. He's got a knee". Or "we expect he'll miss some time, it's an ankle". Just strikes me funny is all.
  17. Using logic would not have led me to the conclusion that you reached. Fans being disappointed because the optimism of a player failed to reach fruition is not the same as said players' words/actions being a "detriment to the team". I think you're reaching. If anything, I think having a player with boundless optimism and a great attitude are a net POSITIVE to the team but, at the very least, I don't view it as a negative, and certainly not a detriment. Agree to disagree.
  18. I don't agree with that at all. I'd be curious to know what instances you can cite that lead you to that conclusion.
  19. I'd bet that Rousseau Floyd Epenesa Jonathan Is your four-man depth chart on the 53-man roster to start the season. Shaq Lawson will be on the practice squad. Once Von is ready to return from PUP, if no other roster spot has opened up, it'll be "happy trails" to Jonathan.
  20. Von Miller is a relentlessly optimistic person. He is far more optimistic than he is realistic. Anyone who still gives credence to his predictions and proclamations -- whether it be his own returns from injuries or the Bills' signing of players -- is setting themselves up for disappointment.
  21. Smart move. Re-injury of ACLs is a real risk for players that rush back too quickly. Protect Von from himself. We need him November, December, and January (and hopefully February), not September and October.
  22. Good. Players that rush back from ACL injuries are significantly more statistically likely to re-injure themselves. Would rather have him miss the first four games of the season than get seriously hurt again and basically be done as a Buffalo Bill.
  23. I'd bet $100 he'll be on the practice squad. Keep in mind: With recent practice squad changes, NFL rosters are essentially 69 players now, not 53.
  24. It's important to remember as these cuts are announced that with practice squad rules being changed in recent years and the number of practice squad players being increased to 16, NFL teams essentially have 69 (...nice) man rosters these days, not 53. It's all about who you think you can get through to the practice squad and who you can't. I'd bet money that the Bills didn't feel they could get Van Demark through waivers (and he's been the better player this offseason, anyway), but they COULD get Quessenberry through. I'd bet on him winding up on the practice squad. With that said, I do still expect an outside waiver add at OT for the 53 man roster. But it's important to remember all the practice squad, PUP, and IR shenanigans that teams pull during cutdown day, and I think that may apply to Quessenberry.
  25. It's gonna be like a 6th that can turn into a 5th based on playing time, I bet. The "we could've had Creed Humphrey!" takes will never die...
