The thing no Bills fan really wants to admit is this: Terry Pegula is probably one Josh Allen/Sean McDermott combo platter away from presiding over a coaching carousel and being despised by the fanbase. For whatever acumen he may offer in the business world, he does not seem particularly adept at operating sports franchises, nor does he seem particularly emotionally intelligent with regard to social interaction or relating to players. Yes, he has opened up his wallet, allowed the Bills to build a world class training facility and spend to the limit on coaching hires and team building, and the Bills have a new stadium deal in place. However, when it comes to the teams themselves under his ownership...everyone knows the Sabres have been an absolute tire fire. And the Bills? The Pegulas started out their tenure of ownership by hiring Rex Ryan and retaining Russ Brandon. They're lucky the McDermott hire worked out so well and that Beane followed, and that Josh Allen was drafted. Does anyone want to imagine what the Bills would look like if, hypothetically, Beane and McDermott were fired and it was up to Pegula to start from scratch? Does anything about the job he's done with the Sabres instill any kind of confidence that this process would go well? Add these latest comments -- if true -- to the pile. Pegula is lucky he has Beane/McDermott/Allen, and I hate to think of what the Bills might look like if he didn't.

If anyone needs a way to pass the next 8 hours without thinking too much about the Bills game to come, may I suggest a hit or two of acid? -
I feel like people seem offended that I said he's not gonna be Travis Kelce. Zach Ertz is/was still a HELL of an NFL tight end. I conceded that I think he'll be very good or great, and that I'm excited to see him play. I just don't see him as the physical presence/alien freak show that Gronk and Kelce are/were. I could very well be wrong in my prediction, but saying "I don't think he'll be Kelce" -- a guy who may go down as the GOAT TE -- isn't meant to be disparaging. Players can win in lots of different ways. Kincaid being a smooth, brainy technician instead of a physical freak doesn't mean he can't still be highly effective.
-
Physical presence, I guess. Travis Kelce is 6'5", 256 lbs and ran a 4.61 40. Dalton Kincaid is 6'4", 240 lbs and ran a 4.71 40. I think that what makes Kincaid special is his brain and, as you said, his spatial awareness. I see him making a living making 8 yard catches in 3rd and 7, the way Ertz has for years. I DON'T see him regularly making huge downfield catches, being a RAC monster, or generally being the physical freak that it seems like Kelce/Gronk are/were. This is only my opinion. I think he'll be a very good player, but I see him more as a technician and security blanket than as a gamebreaking big play threat.
-
I'm really excited about Kincaid, but I don't see him ever being a Travis Kelce/Rob Gronkowski type, or a Tony Gonzalez/Antonio Gates type. Not a surefire Hall of Fame level player. To me, he's more of a Zach Ertz. Now, that's nothing to sneeze at. Ertz has had a nine year career that's still going strong. He has posted 7200 yards 45 TDs -- including a five-year run of posting at least 800 yards every season -- and made 3 Pro Bowls. If Kincaid has an Ertz level career, he'll help Buffalo win a lot of games and maybe go down as the greatest Bills tight end ever. In any case...I also expect Kincaid's arrival to push Dawson Knox, and for him to have a really good year, as well. I can't wait to see the first installment of the DK2 offense this Monday night.

Bernard, Torrence and Benford all officially starters
Logic replied to Process's topic in The Stadium Wall
Benford is looking like the Kyle Williams to Kaiir Elam's John McCargo. It stinks to miss on a first round pick -- and make no mistake, failing to seize the CB2 job in his second season and being passed on the depth chart by a 7th rounder and a 6th rounder indicates that the Bills missed on the Elam pick -- but hitting on a late round guy at the same position takes the sting out a little bit. Now lets hope that Benford goes on to have as good a career for the Bills as Kyle Williams did! For what it's worth, I've really liked what I've seen from Benford every time he's healthy and on the field. You can sort of FEEL his presence out there. He's a physical, intense, hard hitting guy, and he seems to be one of those "always where he's supposed to be, natural zone instincts, sound tackler" types that this coaching staff loves. I think he's a better, stronger version of Levi Wallace. Excited for the youngsters to show what they've got. Go Bills! -
I happen to think that Greg Rousseau is going to be a star, and a perennial top 10 edge rusher, regularly posting double digit sacks. He was on his way to a breakout season last year before the high ankle sprain. Still just 23 years old. This will only be his fifth year of playing defensive end EVER! One year in high school, one year in college, two in the pros. He's been learning the position and filling out his frame. It's Greg Rousseau breakout season.

I didn't get any further than "Dolphins 15-2". Amazing.

Thinking they want a usable tight end on the practice squad. To look a little more deeply, perhaps they're aware that blocking is not the strong suit of any of the three tight ends on their roster, and want to have one who IS a blocking specialist, should they feel the need to call him up for a particular week to execute a certain gameplan. Perhaps we'd see a week where Quintin Morris is inactive but Blanton gets called up, and they use him as an extra blocker in the run and/or pass game.

Bills restructure Taron Johnson and Ryan Bates- create 4.5M cap space
Logic replied to NewEra's topic in The Stadium Wall
Bingo. I believe the Bills HAD to do some cap maneuvering just to become cap compliant. That's what these moves were about. -
There was a thread about it recently, but I'll reiterate what I think makes it this forum so great: Great posters, great posts, frequency of posts, variety of discussion topics, and great moderation. Combine all that -- and throw in a clean, easily navigable interface that doesn't hurt the eyes to look at and isn't cluttered up with pinned threads and other nonsense -- and you have the best NFL discussion forum on the internet.

Loved Jimmy a whole lot. This one hit hard. There's maybe not a single pop culture figure whose life I would more have wanted to live than Jimmy's. Flying sea planes, sailing boats, island hopping, playing music that brought joy to millions, writing books, and generally being a modern day pirate and scalliwag. What a life he led. He's somewhere on the ocean now, the place he oughta be with one hand on starboard rail, he's wavin' back at me.

Texans fans will tell you that Kirksey was a liability last year. It's weird, because on the one hand, he's been a captain and is clearly a good leader and communicator, and has good statistical production. On the other hand, the Texans surely had a good reason to release him -- I don't buy that it was ONLY because of injury. What I suspect is that he's going to bring certain strengths to this defense, and he'll be lacking in other areas. I think he'll be a good run defender, and more importantly, a good communicator and organizer of the defense. I think he'll earn the green dot and will end up being the leader of the second level of the defense. What I think he'll lack is in the area of pass defense. Ultimately, though, while I don't expect him to maybe be quite as good as some Bills fans are envisioning, I DO think he'll be an upgrade over Tyrel Dodsen, particularly as a leader and communicator.

Cannabis could soon be rescheduled: from 1 to 3
Logic replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in Off the Wall
This is the key point to me. I live in Oregon and my wife works in cannabis, and it is positively INSANE what these companies have to go through to do their banking. Totally unreasonable. As for rescheduling cannabis -- and, frankly, full federal legalization -- it's long past time. There is no legitimate reason whatsoever for cannabis to be a schedule 1 drug or to be illegal in any state. It's preposterous and prehistoric. If nothing else, the revenue that states can make from taxing cannabis is absolutely massive, and any state not reaping those rewards is making a huge mistake. End the madness. Reschedule cannabis and end all state and federal prohibition. It's time.- 82 replies

Beane adding a QB to the Practice Squad most likely tomorrow
Logic replied to BillsFanForever19's topic in The Stadium Wall
For those mentioning Carson Wentz or other "name brand" QBs: You probably shouldn't hold your breath. I expect that they want someone to do what Matt Barkley would be doing on the practice squad: Running scout team offense and giving practice reps to the reserve WRs. It's almost certainly going to be a young, cheap, fringe, no-name type guy that screams "practice squad QB" and nothing more. I don't think they're bringing in a legitimate (relatively speaking, since no one available right now is any good) quarterback to learn the playbook and then get called up and replace Kyle Allen. That's not what I think they're after. -
Hallelujah. If Dodsen stinks the first few weeks, hopefully Bernard or Kirksey can step in and take over. I'm not foolish enough to think that Kirksey is a be-all, end-all solution at MLB, but he has certainly proved to be more productive -- and a more capable leader -- over the course of his career than Dodsen has.

Of those listed so far, I'm happy about Andy Isabella, Tyrell Shavers, and DJ Dale. I think the former could help the Bills with depth and special teams play this season, and I think the latter two are good young players that have a shot to contribute in future seasons.
-
Don't get me wrong -- I like Andy Isabella and I predicted and hoped the Bills would add him to the practice squad. But if you follow Bills football, you can't help but notice there's an "Andy Isabella" every year. Drew Hadaad, Martin Nance, Da'Rick Rodgers, Namaan Roosevelt...the list goes on and on. Find someone that loves you the way Bills fans love bottom-of-the-roster preseason darling WRs.

Speculation and discussion on Bills final roster cuts
Logic replied to Simon's topic in The Stadium Wall
It's like the time they asked Peyton Manning's coach why his backup didn't get more practice time, and the coach's response was "Because if Peyton goes down, we're *****, and we don't practice *****". Folks -- if Josh Allen goes down, the Bills are *****. Whether it's Kyle Allen, Tim Allen, or Allen Ginsberg, the Bills aren't going anywhere without #17. -
Speculation and discussion on Bills final roster cuts
Logic replied to Simon's topic in The Stadium Wall
It's just really hard for me to believe that Christian Kirksey (124 tackles, 3 sacks, 2 INTs last season) isn't better than Tyrel Dodsen right now. I get that he'd have to learn the defense and it might take him a minute to earn the green dot, but...no one can convince me that Kirksey -- even at 30 years old -- isn't an upgrade at MLB for this Bills team.
