Since 2018, the Buffalo Bills have been the 4th winningest franchise in the NFL. Since 2019, the year after Allen's "redshirt, learn on the job" year, the Bills are the 2nd winningest franchise in the NFL. What better metric is there to measure a GM on than how many wins his franchise has during his tenure? Particularly when said franchise was mired in a historic drought of ineptitude and struggle immediately prior to his arrival? Yes, the Bills lack AFC Championship banners and Lombardis during Beane's tenure. I could easily argue that that's due more to coaching (13 seconds, to name just one) than roster building. Either way, the Bills have won a lot of football games under Brandon Beane, and have won three division titles in a row after failing to win a single one for two decades running. If you want to use "recent history" as a metric, the fact remains that the Bills have been the fourth winningest team since 2018 and the second winningest team since 2019. They've been very good.

Are you kidding me?! Canada Gooses are the envy of all ornithology! Majestic! Barrel-chested! Don't you remember when that plane had to land on the river in New York 'cause Canada Gooses flew into the engine? It's 'cause Canada Gooses likely had intel that there was a pedophile or two on board and took matters into their own hands. As they should!

Yeah. Honestly, the one I took the most from -- because what do agents really know about talent evaluation? -- was the "GM you trust the most" vote, in which Beane tied for first. I think that being among the top two most trusted GMs in the league by player agents is a great and important thing. At the end of the day, it's the agents negotiating the players' deals with the teams, and having a GM with a great and trustworthy reputation can only mean good things for the Bills' ability to sign and re-sign players in the future.

I just read an article on The Athletic where NFL agents were surveyed on a number of questions. https://theathletic.com/4804587/2023/08/28/nfl-agent-survey-taylor-rodgers-goodell/ When it came to questions about GMs, Brandon Beane was mentioned favorably several times. I pasted the pertinent graphics below. Thought this was pretty interesting. At least from the perspective of agents, there is a lot of respect for the Bills Gm. He was voted top five in several categories, and tied for first in the question of "whom do you trust the most?".

Speculation and discussion on Bills final roster cuts
Logic replied to Simon's topic in The Stadium Wall
I feel like Cam Lewis has more utility to this team than Kaiir Elam, given that the former can play two positions and is a standout special teamer, and the latter is 4th string at his position and is not a standout special teamer. I'm not predicting that they cut Elam, but it certainly wouldn't surprise me if they traded him and Lewis made the team. -
Benford - Was he being showcased? (Opinion, not a rumor)
Logic replied to Alphadawg7's topic in The Stadium Wall
I see what you're saying, but... It's very possible that Benford is the second best outside corner on the roster. If anyone's getting traded, in my mind, it's Kaiir Elam. I'd think he would have value to teams that play more man coverage. -
Connor McGovern Injury ????????????????
Logic replied to Riverboat Ritchie's topic in The Stadium Wall
If McGovern's injury is long term at all, then David Edwards just went from "could he be traded?" to "roster lock" in my eyes. -

Would that message be "we'd like to see what Josh Allen looks like in a sling"? -
TRADE: Arizona ships Simmons to Giants for a 7th
Logic replied to BuffaloBillyG's topic in The Stadium Wall
I am not one to always say "I wish the Bills would've done that" when a players gets traded, but in this case.... I wish the Bills would've done that. I think McDermott and co would've stood a darn good chance of helping Simmons "become the best version of himself", and if not, they'd have only surrendered a 7th. Oh well. -
Josh Allen and starters will play against the Bears
Logic replied to HappyDays's topic in The Stadium Wall
Both. They haven't earned the right to sit out a game. They could use the work. Go out, play clean, disciplined football, drive the ball down and score a time or two (and show some pride and gap integrity and tackling acumen on defense), THEN you can sit and make jokes on the sideline. -

Noooo! Not the Funker! An absolute legend. Arguably the most legendary member of one of the most legendary wrestling families. Excellent worker, excellent talker, excellent heel, excellent story teller, hardcore icon. Outside of wrestling, seemed like a genuinely kind and gentle man. RIP, Terry Funk. Thanks for the memories.

It sure seems likely that Von will start the season on PUP and miss the first four games. Beyond that, who knows?

When did Steve Tasker become such a homer?

Former Buffalo Bill who still collects his paycheck from the Bills organization praises team on organization-run marketing propaganda program. -
Sean McDermott's career record: 66–40 (.623) There are only 21 coaches in the Super Bowl era with at least a .600 win percentage in at least 80 games in the regular season. Just 21 coaches! Ever! Quantify it however you want. Sean McDermott is a very good head coach. I get that you want the Bills to win a Super Bowl. So do I. The failure to do so thus far does not mean he's "inadequate". You're free to have that opinion, of course, just as I am free to point out that history and common sense and eyeballs all indicate that you're wrong.

This. The FINAL SCORE does not matter. This is true. However, you do want to see crisp execution, attention to detail, organization, cohesion on offense and defense, players winning individual matchups, and a general display of competence. The Bills during the drought often looked poor in all of the above areas in the preseason and -- wouldn't you know it -- they'd continue to look poor come the regular season. Conversely, the Sean McDermott Bills have tended to check all of the above boxes in the preseason in recent years, and that competence and effectiveness carried over into the regular season. So...what are we to make of two straight weeks of sloppiness and lackluster play? Are the Bills going to magically flip a switch, stop committing 10 penalties a game, and start looking as talented and competent as they should? Maybe, maybe not, but it's a reasonable question to ask. The outcome doesn't matter. The way the team performs en route to the meaningless outcome does matter.

When he stops having 11+ win seasons and making the playoffs every single year?
-
Fair enough, thanks. I could point out that the Bills then proceeded to have a 13 win season, which ought to have re-instilled some confidence. Then again, THAT notion could be countered by the ensuing Bengals playoff debacle. It would be interesting to know the truth of the matter, but I suspect we never will.

Legitimate question. I'm not trying to be confrontational, I'm just genuinely curious: Upon what evidence do you base this suspicion?

What are your top TWO takeaways from the Bills-Steelers game?
Logic replied to Chaos's topic in The Stadium Wall
That's part of the problem, I guess. Beane's only meaningful roster additions at such a crucial position have been late round stabs in the dark. As for Knox...for a team that needs more short, intermediate, and middle-of-the-field receiving production, it would be nice if the athletic tight end to whom the Bills are paying a decent sized contract could be free to catch passes more often than he's kept in line to block. Granted, they have Kincaid now, but "we'll just keep the tight end in to help a lot" is a solution I wish they Bills didn't have to utilize to the extent that they likely will this season. I think the Bills hoped that Dawkins would return to form and that Brown would improve from last season. The problem is that "hope is not a strategy". At this moment, neither thing seems likely to happen, and it could greatly hamper offensive production. -

Indeed, it is quite ironic that the Bills FINALLY seem to have fixed the interior offensive line just in time for the tackle position to go to absolute hell. I'm a Brandon Beane fan and defender, but his handling of the tackle position -- from not bringing in legitimate competition for Spencer Brown, to spending picks on guys like Tommy Doyle and Luke Tenuta, only to have them barely be roster-able players -- has been very suspect as of late. No roster is perfect, and no team is good at every single position. But offensive tackle is NOT a position you want to be deficient at, particularly when you have a superstar franchise QB to protect. -

1.) I can't get out of my head what I saw on Twitter after the game: The start to that game looked A LOT like the Bengals playoff game. 2.) That was the most disorganized, undisciplined, and ineffective I've seen this team look under Sean McDermott -- preseason or not. I'm trying hard not to overreact to one preseason game, particularly when this roster is so talented and coach McDermott has a track record of 10+ win seasons. It's almost impossible for me to believe that a team this good, with this good a quarterback, and a good head coach...could possibly be as bad as they looked yesterday. But what if they are? I'm waiting for something to wash the bad taste of the Bengals loss out of my mouth, but yesterday's game certainly was not that thing. I'm normally the most optimistic, glass-half-full Bills fan you'll ever meet, but doubts and worries are starting to creep in. Something just seems...off....with this team. It's a subtle, intangible thing, but...I can't shake the feeling.
