  1. My daughter and I argue about the EC all the time. I think it is a valid way to go; she does not. My concern is that every vote be counted and that Electoral Colleges accurately reflect the will of the voters.
  2. Because you say so? Right. Wearing a mask does not violate any of your first amendment rights any more than wearing other articles of clothing to enter a place of business. Want proof? Go downtown right now wherever you live, take off all your clothes and walk around, and when the police come for you tell them the first amendment says you don’t have to wear them. Text me back from your cell.
  3. The three or so leaders of the BLM organization going on about the country becoming Marxist are loons and not to be taken seriously. The concept of Black Lives Matter is a serious one however and one I support. I know a number of students and other individuals in my town that have suffered from discriminatory practices. Time for that to end.
  4. McGann and Bolton come to mind The Constitution does not state a specific number of justices. I would not agree with adding justices but if the Senate, House and Executive branch all go Democrat then you could make the same argument Republicans are making, namely that the people through the elective process are telling their government what they want on the court.
  5. My position is in a national crisis we should all band together as Americans and your not wearing a mask says you’re OK with killing your neighbor.
  6. Executive orders are generally not good; President’s if both parties use them too much. Biden and Obama accepted decisions of the court. When Congress subpoenaed people in the Administration they went. The Trump administration routinely ignores the Congress, they have placed a number of people rated as unqualified to the judiciary, and Trump has said under the Second Article he has unlimited power. He wants an autocratic government where he is not checked by the other two branches.
  7. My friend, hope you are doing well. All the above have many more peaceful protestors than non. The looters etc. should be arrested of course, but my understanding is you have both far left and far right groups taking advantage of these situations to foment the bad stuff.
  8. Ebola dies out quickly in air. There’s a reason Ebola outbreaks die down quickly; because people get sick quickly and die quickly. Covid is a very contagious virus that spreads through the air, has a longer incubation time, and can be spread by non-symptomatic people. As I said it would have been great to rely on individual responsibility in a public health crisis, but people were and continue to be irresponsible.
  9. I generally agree. We faced a public health crisis and governors have emergency powers under such circumstance. I would love it if we could rely on the good judgment of citizens to band together for the common good but sadly that has not been the case.
  10. If you are referring to churches being closed mine was by our Republican governor under his emergency powers, and appropriately so. We switched to virtual services and our congregation continues on. Christianity is about living the Gospels and not a building.
  11. I am Christian but have not been treated badly. Can you explain?
  12. It would not agree with that. But our form of government has three coequal branches. Biden believes in that and Trump does not.
  13. i was thinking about the beard myself but I know it would come in all white and I'd be depressed.
  14. This election to me is about our form of government surviving. It should be abundantly clear Trump wants an autocratic government. Go back and look at Bannon's stuff before 2016 election.
  15. They were saying readers misconstrued it. Masks should not be a political issue. The bulk of data shows they help mitigate spread. It is a public health concern.
  16. We'll just have to disagree. Ultimately what is needed to get us out of this nonsense is a viable third party that wrests control away from the two parties that only want to remain in power. I suggest formation of the 537 Party. You nee one person for each congressional district, two for each senate position per state, and a President and Vice President. If we could get 537 people who recognize that effective government means honest debate and dialog, that decisions on the main issues of the day require compromise and consensus, then we can get back to actually getting things done for the citizens of this nation. It didn't used to be this way. When Nixon the criminal occupied the office, both parties recognized the harm to the country. Reagan and Tip O'Neill were as diametrically opposed politically as any two people could be, but they would sit down for drinks at the White House on a regular basis, because they knew that governance required them to work together, as when they saved Social Security. We can do this again but we need people in DC that put country before party. Let's flip a coin. Winner can be President and loser Vice President.
  17. All for that. As for the original topic, these extremists in Michigan need to be convicted and jailed for life. Would say the same if some far left loons did the same against, say, the governor of South Dakota.
  18. A few weeks later the authors of this article published a comment saying their data was misconstrued and in fact they felt their results supported mask use.
  19. Understand your points. The extremes of both parties should not have a voice in governance in my opinion. The majority of people in this country are in the middle; more conservative on some issues and more liberal in others. Those are the positions that should govern. Yes it does. And many have done so this year. I did as part of a walk to bring attention to the racial divide in this country. And when it turns to looting and rioting law enforcement should stop it and arrest those responsible, either left or right wing instigators.
  20. People who have actively rooted for the Bills to lose as you did all last year should not be allowed to post in this forum.
  21. I hate to tell you but Biden will not try to become a dictator. And if he did I would fight it. I am an Independent. I have voted for many Republicans. I’m voting for Holcomb for governor here in Indiana because he has done a fine job. But anyone who believes Trump is anywhere near qualified to hold the highest office in this land, who believes he should have the power to have his finger on the nuclear button, really needs to step back and think. I’d love for the Republican Party to get back to actually being Republican. They’d have my vote.
  22. Article 2 of the Constitution. As for the pandemic he is simply inept. And governors of states have emergency powers they can enact; my Republican governor in Indiana did so.
  23. He said specifically that Article 2 means he can do whatever he wants.
  24. That would be phenomenal.
  25. If the Democrats had run anyone but Clinton in 16 they win. They win this year because women, especially middle class suburban women, are leaving Trump. And I can tell you that based on living in a Republican district and talking to women who refuse to vote for the man. They do not buy his attempt at trying to create hysteria in the suburbs. He also is losing folks like me, older white men with college educations. His mismanagement of the Covid situation puts the elderly at risk, and the insults and irrational rants make folks like me convinced he is incapable of running the country. I didn't vote for either in 16, I voted for Johnson and Weld. But frankly I would vote for a ham sandwich if it was running against Trump this year. I do so because I want our constitutional form of government to continue to exist. When Trump says he can do anything he wants under the Constitution, when he says he takes no responsibility for a pandemic that has killed over 200k citizens (and we know from his own words with Woodward that he knew about the dangers), he disqualifies himself from occupying the office. There will be policies under a Biden admin I will strongly disagree with, but we will still have the government framed by our Constitution vs. the autocracy Trump wants. And that is what this election should be about. And from talking with folks like me, same demographic, many feel the same way.
