I think it comes down to the word marriage. I know a number of gay couples that are married, but it’s the word that raises the hackles on some. Personally it doesn’t bother me, but if you change to civil unions as what is recognized by law then gay and straight couples each have the same legal rights and you take away the argument over the word marriage. Many gay couples would then still be married as many church denominations would do so.

Everyone is supposed to have the same rights under the law. States should get out of the business of granting marriage licenses, and simply legalize civil unions. That should be federal such that states cannot opt out of allowing two people who want to join their lives as a couple do so. Marriage should be religious in character, and as such places of worship can decide if they want to sanction marriage between any two specific individuals.

Doesn’t make much sense given Ford’s status, but I’m on the outside looking in. -
What is the worst loss a good Bills teams has had?
oldmanfan replied to C.Biscuit97's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What in God's name is the purpose of a thread like this? Looking at the in game crap spewed by people the last two weeks, and now this, I am convince that as much as we like to brag about the Bills fans being the best, and how great the Bills Mafia is, in reality a sizeable portion of the fans of this team are weak, pessimistic nuts who secretly want this team to do badly for some insane reason. What has happened the last two weeks is that we lost to the two teams that played for the conference championship last year, and that they exposed some flaws that have to be addressed, namely the D line. we have seen McD teams go through this before and pull themsleves out of it, and that was without a more capable Allen and the weapons he has around him now. To conflate the Titans and Chiefs games into a presumption that we are now going to lose to the Jets is simply absurd, and the only thing more absurd that the original post is how many people are jumping on the negative band wagon. -
Zimmer needs to replace Oliver in starting lineup

Move Oliver around more. Let him come from outside in passing downs. -
Allen’s weapons relative to Tenn/KC

Great teams have good to great lines. We have plenty of skill guys, our lines have to play better. -
Too bad the kid can’t play up front.
-
A couple misses the laces were turned towards him. He’s doing fine. KC’s kicker missed a PAT last night; they are not cutting him.
-
He missed a 52 yarder in the rain. He was fine other wise. Criticizing the kid is a little ridiculous.
-
McD has to light a fire. Started with benchings today, and may see a trade or two soon. Coaching can only do so much; we have guys in both lines that are simply getting beat physically.
-
Josh wasn’t the Josh we love. But I’m sorry. The defense gave up almost 500 yards. And I don’t think it’s scheme. They are being manhandled.

Week 6 Postgame Thread KC at Bills
oldmanfan replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Football will always be a game of physicality. Our D line has simply been beat up physically the past two weeks. I don’t care what schemes etc. you run, when you get physically beat you lose. They either need to sack up or get new guys. -

Ok boys, let’s matriculate the ball down the field! -
I’ve been watching football since the 60’s. It may just be possible that the Jets are the worst team I’ve ever seen.

The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19

Not when his orders can kill people. Masks, distancing, handwashing. They work. Of these he refuses to enact two of them, and you saw what happened with infections at the White House -
The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19

Claiming I am obtuse because I want our country to unite in defeating this virus simply shows the problem. We need to quit calling names and work together. -
The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19
oldmanfan replied to Hedge's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
No. Until we get the infection rate lower than the percentage advised by the CDC and other health experts. Then you can more easily trace and isolate affected individuals. Or until we get an effective vaccine and/or treatments. You have to remember this is a new virus. It can be carried by asymptomatic individuals who can then infect others, it has dramatically different effects on different people and we still don’t know why, we don’t know what the long term health effects will be. And as tired as we all are of this, infection rates are rising in most states. i think the most frustrating thing to me is that we as a country refuse to pull together to end this thing. Other than the Vietnam war, when I think of other national crises our country has faced such as wars, economic issues and such, we all pull together as Americans. Why we don’t today is just sad. -

Sad. And with respect to Covid the virus doesn’t care a whit about politics, etc. -

The respondent wants folks like you and me to die so he can do what he wants. If this attitude ever prevailed what would keep them from just gathering up all us older folk and eliminating us? -

So you have to eliminate data to make your argument. Perfect. Their mortality and infection rates are higher than most every country. That is fact. Spare me the gratuitous Karen insults. We can do things to mitigate spread and still be out doing the things we want to do. -
The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19
oldmanfan replied to Hedge's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
A pandemic definition includes a disease that occurs in multiple countries and in large numbers of people. So Covid qualifies. What I will continue to say is that we can do things in public like shopping, etc. but just do so safely. Wear masks if close together, do things outside in smaller groups, wash your hands. Yesterday I went to a bar with a friend and had a couple beers, wore our masks in and out and the bar had seating that separated folks. Went to work this morning and I and my patient had on masks. Going into church right now; seats are spread out more and we all will disinfect our hands on the way in and wear masks. And some will join us on line. We are basically being asked to do three things. Why we all cannot or will not do that is simply mind boggling. -
Biden by about the same as Trump won in 2016.
