  1. People here are notorious for that...they think they’re being helpful waving you into a merge lane while they’re blocking the view of oncoming because they’re making a left turn off the highway. I just sit tight and don’t move until they figure it out. Drives me crazy when people think they’re being helpful by ignoring rules of the road that specifically exist to ensure you’re less likely to die or kill someone with your vehicle.
  2. Should be a pretty even game imo. Physicality of US is probably the difference
  3. How the universe is 92 billion light years wide but only 13.7 billion years old
  4. I’m not sure other than tradition, but the second overtime when the score isn’t tied is almost always entertaining.
  5. I will admit that unless you have an understanding of soccer it can be hard to appreciate the athleticism and tactical aspects of the game. Football and basketball are great spectator sports because they’re unambiguously spectacular.
  6. The problem w golden and silver goal rules was it made extra time way too defensive because neither team wanted to concede...would end up with two teams with 11 guys behind the ball defending for penalties. At least with two guaranteed overtime periods you can have some semblance of competition even though they’re exhausted.
  7. They also experimented with just one extra time period if a team’s winning after the first 15...called it ‘silver goal’. Didn’t stick for long. Soccer in general isn’t averse to change, but the game itself is so simple (and popular) that FIFA is usually hesitant to change what’s been working. Edit for misspelling
  8. They used to do golden goal but switched back to normal extra time, two 15 min periods a while ago.
  9. There are only a couple of scenarios where I'd use VAR and they all involve ejection-worth offenses. Apparently Zidane wouldn't have been ejected in the WC final vs Italy if the refs hadn't seen his head-butt on the big screen?? I don't like it for Offside and I HATE it for reviewing penalties. Awarding a penalty kick changes the game so much, it's often so subjective, using replay gets to be a disaster. It's always going to be a controversial decision, introducing replay into it makes it 10x worse imo.
  10. He wasn't asking to switch w/ someone in first class, he was offering 1.5K for a different coach seat with more leg room, either the beginning of a row or an exit.
  11. Some improvements make sense, like the goal line tech. VAR, especially the way it's being used right now at the women's WC, is imo a disaster.
  12. Stands for video assistant referee. It’s the fifth official who oversees replays.
  13. Video replay. Soccer is a game of subtlety. It can be hard to appreciate for sure.
  14. The part I liked best was the cost estimate of $300,000-$800,000 to 'obscure the mural with curtains'.
  15. This. If he's healthy I'd love seeing him and Edwards making some noise, stout LB corps is a McD staple
  16. I don't need the 8.5 mins of crying afterwards
  17. pics or it never happened obviously
  18. Was about to say you can’t trust a girl named after TWO automobiles??
