Wet and raving, the needle keeps calling me back To bloody my hands forever Carved my cure with the blade that left me in scars Now every time I'm weak, words scream from my arm

A fun band that I got into after the fact: Probably a fun live band:

It happened on the strip where the road is wide Two cool shorts standin' side by side Yeah, my fuel injected Stingray and a four-thirteen A revvin' up our engines and it sounds real mean Tack it up, tack it up Buddy, gonna shut you down

I think it's funny, haha Lost all my money I threw it all away But now I'm happy

Reception's jumpin', bass is pumpin' Look at the girl and your heart starts thumpin' Says she wants to dance to a different groove Now you know what to do, G, bust a move!

It was a big one, the moth that is, she was the size of a baby raccoon

I'm waiting in my cold cell when the bell begins to chime Reflecting on my past life and it doesn't have much time 'Cause at 5 o'clock, they take me to the Gallows Pole The sands of time for me are running low

I hear you're falling again and you're bringing me down But that's not where I'm going There's no one around you this time but you haven't noticed yet When you do, will you speak softly?

No clue if he still performs. Saw him in the 80's - twice as an undergrad at my college and once with friends post grad, always a fun night. The post grad show was at a comedy club and recorded to VCR/DVD cuz someone we knew rented it and told us our table was in a close up crowd shot, LOL

John Valby? I know those lyrics from him.

A quick timeout to share a story of a band playing happy hour at a local bar and doing a rendition of Clapton's Cocaine with alternate lyrics related to: Propane Romaine Rogaine Good times!

That would be horrifying. I don't think they'd do it for a Ruf-type but I could see it happen for a closer - but I'm with you, I'd hold onto the younguns. As much as I don't like the history of the Mets playing guys out of position I don't think McNeil in LF is an issue. That guy can flat out play.
-
WRT fighting for a wild card spot - for sure that's in play. Problem for me is that the Mets are kind of like the Bills in that expectations are higher than just making the playoffs and this doesn't look like a championship team to me. That could all change - look no further than the run the Phillies made last year after a poor start - but that feels like optimism over realism. In the mean time I am excited about seeing how the kids make their way into the lineup. Alvarez looks like a stud, Baty looks like he belongs and Vientos looks like a guy who could force himself into a spot given the opportunity. Meanwhile Mauricio looks ready for his shot at the majors. I'm expecting him to come up at some point to play second with McNeil moving to the OF. That could improve the lineup and give us a real backup at SS. Guys like Canha, Escobar, Vogelbach and Nido are going to start getting squeezed out.

What is the purpose of my life if it doesn't have to do With learning to let it go? Live vicariously through? You could do the same, it's the least you could do 'Cause it's a lonely little chain if you don't add to it

Concert setlists, do you check them out ahead of time?
SinceThe70s replied to Just Jack's topic in Off the Wall
One good thing about knowing the setlist in advance is I can pick my spot to grab another beer and rid myself of earlier beers during a lull in the set. -
@Gugny @ExWNYer @Another Fan You know how sometimes you'll watch a game and can't understand why a batter swings at a first pitch or gets caught off first. Sometimes there are unseen factors like a biological imperative: https://nypost.com/2023/05/27/mets-pete-alonso-hit-first-pitch-homer-because-he-had-to-poop/

I can't help myself, I check obsessively. If I had gone to the Yes show I would have been out the door before the encore started. I get annoyed by bands that play the same exact setlist every night - at least switch up a song or two. What I love is the jam bands - I check the setlist for the last show or two to determine what they won't be playing when I see them. I definitely prefer not knowing going in but I just can't help myself. -
Hopkins released by Arizona (7/16: signed by Titans)
SinceThe70s replied to HappyDays's topic in The Stadium Wall
Aren't the Jets having issues getting Quinnen Williams signed? Given that and their current WRs Dhop to the Jets would surprise me. -
I agree with both of you, great setlist minus the encore. I would have been fine with it...would have started to make my way to the exit during the encore.

Honey, honey, call me on the telephone I know you're movin' out to Hollywood With your can of tasty foam All those beat up friends of mine Got to get you in their books Lead guitars and movie stars Get their tongues beneath your hood

I absolutely despised Vince Coleman before he became a Met. Took a few months to warm up to him - and just when I did he had the firecracker incident. Hated the player, still loved the team. Same with the Wilpons, hated the owner, loved the team. I have a hard time believing I'd have walked away from the Mets if those other two clowns had bought them.
-
To each their own, but my loyalty to the Mets runs far deeper. The thought of those two clowns owning the Mets was equal parts horrifying and nauseating. But, I lived through the Wilpons and more to the point hated players like Vince Coleman. I may get disgusted by my team, but I'll never abandon them. As to the Bills - had they left Buffalo I have idea how I would have handled that. Football is the only sport where I can watch a game between two games that i don't gaf about. Not sure how that would change if i didn't gaf about any team.

As an out of town Bills fan this is kind of what I did. Grew up on Long Island with a father from Chicago and a mother from Boston so no local allegiance. I ended up 'rooting' for whichever team won the SB until my father called out my BS. Took it to heart and kind of 'just picked a team' cuz OJ was amazing, Bills were from NY and except for a hobbled Joe Namath the Jets and Giants had no star power. I've never looked back, don't regret it and am thrilled that my two sons are big time Bills fans despite growing up out of market.
