  1. It will be interesting to see whether they loosen the purse strings. Gio would come cheap. Keuchel or Kimbrel not so much otherwise they'd be playing. For the record, another thing I heard Brodie say the other day was he was sticking with Vargas (for now).
  2. According to Mickey they are being overly cautious in sending him for the MRI. Could just be general fatigue. I'll hold out hope that's all it is. But playing what if, the team looks good enough to compete this year. Supposedly Gio Gonzalez is about to be cut loose by the Yankees and may be an option to replace Vargas. He'd be a no brainer if DeGrom goes down. But would Brodie push the chips to the middle of the table and bring Keuchel in? His moves so far have been with an eye toward winning this year. I guess it's either that or move Lugo into the rotation and backfill his spot as a reliever. Kimbrel anyone?
  3. Ain't got nothin' but love babe, Eight days a week.
  4. Caps, Canes, what does it matter? Either way it's lambs to the slaughter.
  5. Maybe 'cause the night before was bottoms up with the bottle and maybe some more but it really seemed like a good idea And they won't accept the argument that a little more sleep is time well spent
  6. I was listening to an interview with Van Wagenen on my way home today and with regard to that ledge the best I can do is remind you that there's more to life than baseball. Go take a walk in the park, smell the flowers, feed the ducks, maybe read a good book...because according to VW, McNeil's role this year will continue to be the jack of all trades. On the plus side when the Cubs won the WS in 2016: Kris Bryant started 100 games at 3B, 36 in LF, 12 in RF and 6 at 1B Ben Zobrist started 113 at 2B, 18 in RF, 11 in LF Smaller sample size but closer to home, in 1986: Kevin Mitchell started 26 in LF, 21 in RF, 20 at SS, 6 in CF, 3 at 3B and 1 at 1B My hope is that by the end of the year McNeil has staked his claim to 3B, until then I want him in the lineup as much as possible.
  7. I don't speak Spanish all that well I'm out of cash, and I'm drunk as hell
  8. Blood stains the ivories of my Daddy's baby grand Ain't seen daylight since we started this band No more, No more.
  9. I was fortunate to miss the Matz debacle this evening. Don't remember the Bobby Jones outing off the top of my head. I was at Shea to witness David Cone's debut as a starter. Pretty bad but nothing like tonight. https://www.nytimes.com/1987/04/28/sports/cone-is-rocked-mets-don-t-help.html
  10. LOL on the crickets I honestly don't keep up to date on the minor league team and the prospects. I have no idea where Conlon is these days. I think McNeil is solidifying his spot on the Major League roster as our Ben Zobrist type. He'll play a good deal but not have a set position. But how they manage the return of Frazier and then Lowrie will probably cause some agita...especially if they don't play well.
  11. Ah-oooo! Werewolves of London!
  12. I read last night that it was Ovechkin's first fight since 2010. I also wonder whether there's a side story since they're both Russian.
  13. I'm no expert on stadium seating, but I'd be wary of the 100's . A lot of times the crowd stands up during the game and that could be more problematic in the 100's for your son since the viewing angle is lower. I took my kids two years ago and someone on the board suggested the first 10 rows in the 300's between the 20 yard lines. That worked out great for me. But you wouldn't be in a family or alcohol free section. We did have a guy behind us who was over-served but the stadium security guy was on top of him before it became an issue.
  14. How are we gonna keep McNeil in the lineup? Play of the game at third. If he doesn't make that play Familia's outing looks even worse than it was - and there was nothing good to say about it to begin with.
  15. Butterflies and zebras And moonbeams and fairy tales That's all she ever thinks about Riding with the wind
  16. Yup, it was Hunt. A cool Ron Hunt story: https://nypost.com/2019/02/01/the-end-of-baseballs-most-unlikely-friendship/
  17. The guys that stuck out for me were Bob Bailey and Ron Fairly. And then a bit later Steve Rogers. I'm pretty light on ballparks visited, I think only 7.
  18. The stadium announcer was great. I'd listen to him on TV announcing the batters whenever the Mets played up in Montreal. I was disappointed when the Expos traded away Boccabella. First game I ever went to was Mets-Expos at Shea in 1971. Carl Morton pitched for the Expos and hit a HR.
  19. I tell ya, life ain't easy for a boy named "Sue"
  20. Everybody thinksThat everybody knowsAbout everybody elseNobody knowsAnything about themselvesCause they're all worried about everybody else
  21. I had no idea Sewald was back up. Not good.
  22. Do you remember John Boccabella? One of my early baseball memories is him getting announced at Jarry Park. It was epic.
  23. I'm all for bashing the ESPN Sunday night broadcasts, but tonight they had Henry Aaron in the booth. I missed all but the end when he was asked about the toughest pitcher he faced. Stan Williams. I know the name, had the baseball card but other than that he's a nobody to me. Wish I'd heard more from Hammerin' Hank tonight.
