  1. Mets will be changing the address of Citi Field to 41 Seaver Way and also planning on a statue for him. https://www.newsday.com/sports/baseball/mets/tom-seaver-citi-field-address-statue-1.28770602
  2. Dad from Chicago, Mom from Boston, I'm a life-long Long Islander. When I first got interested in football the Jets and Giants had no star power (Namath was on his last legs) but the Bills had OJ and played in my home state. A choice was made that I don't regret. My kids are Bills fans too. I nudged them towards it, but if they had gravitated to another team I would have been fine with it....except for Jets or Pats, either of those would have required an intervention.
  3. Playoffs please...and 14-16 games played for each. We can re-evaluate their relative worth to the cause on or before this time next year.
  4. If the Mets were in the AL East they'd need a paddle. If everything breaks right the Mets have a legit shot at taking the NL East. But at the plate we appear to be way too left-handed and after DeGrom the starting pitching has questions with regard to durability (Thor), believability (Wheeler), consistency (Matz) and sucktitude (Vargas).
  5. A few rule changes for 2019 were announced yesterday: https://www.mlb.com/news/mlb-rules-changes The ones that interest me the most: Trade Deadline: The waiver trade period will be eliminated. The July 31 Trade Deadline will be the only deadline. Players may still be placed and claimed on outright waivers after July 31, but trades will no longer be permitted after that date. My opinion: I like the intent, not sure how it will play out. Active roster provisions: The roster size from Opening Day through Aug. 31 will increase from 25 to 26 (with the minimum number of active players rising from 24 to 25, and roster sizes for doubleheaders rising from 26 to 27). The 40-man active roster for September will be eliminated. From Sept. 1 through the end of the regular season, all clubs will carry 28 players. My opinion: Great move eliminating the 40-man September roster Three-batter minimum for pitchers: Rule 5.10(g) will be amended to require that starting pitchers and relief pitchers must pitch to either a minimum of three batters or to the end of a half-inning, with exceptions for incapacitating injury or illness My opinion: Hate it. Completely unnecessary, especially since they dumped the 40 man September roster
  6. Again, if I'm a Browns fan - and I'm not - I am loving my teams chance for a turn-around. There is no reason whatsoever to be "scared". Are things going to get worse than they've been? What the F is there to be scared of? Media expectations? Yawn. BTW, I hope they implode. Can't stand OBJ or Jarvis Landry. Baker seems like a d-bag too.
  7. Some valid points except the bolded. If I'm a Cleveland fan - and I'm not - I am stoked to have Mayfield, OBJ, Hunt, Jarvis and Jack as the core of my team and 'very scared' would not be part of my mentality in any way, shape or form.
  8. Sad to say, you nailed it. LT was a generational player who defined the Giants for a short period of time. I could argue that Eli had a bigger singular impact on that franchise's history than LT despite being a far inferior player. It's before my time, but Y.A. Tittle might be the titular holder of the crown for the Giants.
  9. A few weeks is what I had read in an article recently. I just double-checked. 172 days on an active roster counts as a year of service and a regular season consists of 187 days so I guess it's 15 days. http://m.mlb.com/glossary/transactions/service-time
  10. The Wilpons are cheap, we all know that and it sucks. Holding Alonso back for a few weeks to gain an extra year of control has nothing to do with their cheapness. It's the smart move If VanGameShowHost loses that extra year of control he is an absolute fool. Even more so given the Wilpons cheapness.
  11. I don't have any reason to dislike Baker, except he seems like a douche. Talent aside, there's nothing for me to like about OBJ. Jarvis Landry? I could never root for him or his team to succeed. He could however suck as much seed as he likes. My hope is that the AFCN implodes this year and does it's best impression of the AFC South.
  12. I'm trying to figure out the tie-in between Al inventing the internet 30 years ago and the Bills signing Frank.
  13. I remember their first EP. At the time there were a ton of similar bands, except most weren't doing the Christian Rock thing. I liked this song: Another obscure band at the time was Icon. At the time every band needed the intro solo, none of whch lived up to Eddie Van Halen's Eruption. Good times.
  14. Since the departure of Wood/Glenn/Incognito the general consensus around here is that we need to upgrade the OL. We have cap space, the draft doesn't appear to be loaded with offensive lineman and the Raiders were looking to dump salary after the AB signing. Could have filled a hole before free agency and the draft. Not sure what the plan to rebuild the OL is, but this feels like a miss. I hope I'm wrong.
  15. How would you know? I stopped keeping up with new bands/albums somewhere around the mid to late 90's but every once a while I come across a band that came out since then that I totally missed out on. Enjoy the shows this year. I'm going to see Priest in a pretty small venue in May. Maybe Maiden too but I haven't been to an arena show since I can remember.
  16. I'll be surprised if Alonso is on the opening day roster - whether he deserves to be or not. I'm not sure the exact number of days, but if they keep him off the MLB roster for a few weeks they gain an extra year of contract control. That's become standard operating procedure across the league and makes good business sense.
  17. For whatever reason Cult of Personality never did it for me in a big way. But it was good enough to make me want to here more from them. Including the following with the great line "She looks as lovely as she's every gonna get!". Ouch.
  18. No, you're absolutely right about that. I remember a long passage about the inner workings of a dirty A-bomb from Sum Of All Fears that was a difficult slog. I'd read a Clancy book and then need time off to read less taxing books The technical aspects of Clancy were too much for me at times, but the storylines and characters made it worth the effort for me.
  19. When I saw the names Baldacci and Patterson it reminded me of another favorite: Nelson DeMille. He was a read-it-when-it-comes-out-when-is-the-next-one guy for a few years. Great stories, easy reads.
  20. I haven't read a book in years. As a kid I read incessantly. And then I fell out of it for a really long time until I had an extended time working out of state with too much alone time and I read The Firm by John Grisham which was popular at the time. Great book (movie sucked), it re-ignited my interest in reading for a long time. Grisham was hit and miss for me after The Firm, but easy reads. Tom Clancy was my favorite author. Reading one of his books is definitely an investment in time, but well worth it IMO. If you had to pick one to start with, maybe Without Remorse. Central character was one of his best.
