  1. Restaurant tipping is straight forward. I'm tipping on the service, not the meal. 20% is the standard (including drinks). Could go higher or lower but usually not by much either way. If I'm with a big group I'll kick in extra after the anal retentive calculator folks figure out "what's right". Hotel tipping is more interesting. They seem to always have their hand out for services I have little use for. Bell boy? You better get running now, I can handle my own bags. Does anyone tip the maids for daily service? I don't. But I'll leave a buck or two for clearing our plates while we are in between rounds of gluttony at the breakfast buffet.
  2. LOL, you sound like my father. That's a good thing IMO even if I don't always live up to his ideals.
  3. I had never heard the phrase until I caught up with an old friend around 5 years ago. He used it in a business context that night.....incessantly. His son was a high school senior. Maybe his co-workers had college age kids. For my money they can never use it enough.
  4. I ride on the bus into the city every day I sit on my seat and I dream myself away I dream I'm on an island with that foxy lady too But when I awaken, I must be mistaken, I'm on Third Avenue
  5. I always admired him as a player. One of my earliest memories of Buckner was the Dodgers playing a Saturday game of the week. Lasorda was coaching third and miked up for the broadcast when "Billy Buck" hit a triple. RIP.
  6. Current injury list includes: Conforto, McNeil, Cano, Nimmo, Lowrie. Have to give VW credit for having a backup plan and guys like the J.D. Davis, Carlos Gomez, Rajai Davis, Hechevarria and (I cannot believe I'm typing this) Dom Smith ready to step in. And he still has Danny Espinosa and Gregor Blanco in Syracuse.
  7. Twelve hours out of Mackinac City Stopped in a bar to have a brew Met a girl and we had a few drinks And I told her what I'd decided to do She looked out the window a long long moment Then she looked into my eyes She didn't have to say a thing I knew what she was thinkin' Roll, roll me away Won't you roll me away tonight I too am lost, I feel double-crossed And I'm sick of what's wrong and what's right We never even said a word We just walked out and got on that bike And we rolled And we rolled clean out of sight
  8. Tomorrow You're gonna have to live with the things you say Tomorrow You'll have to cross bridges that you burned today Tomorrow And everything you do, it's coming back for you You'll never outrun what waits for you Tomorrow
  9. Bruins are doomed. Every team that swept a series this post season lost in the next round and 2 of the 3 were swept. For the first time in my life I am St. Louis Blues fan.
  10. Probably listened to one too many drunks saying "Man what are you doing here!".
  11. Alonso hits a moon shot close to but way over the foul pole and the HR gets upheld on replay. Gary was emphatic during the replay that the Citi Field foul poles are much shorter than other stadiums. Never heard that before. Seems like that should be a standard. Probably obstructed someones view of Venus home plate from the Acela Club (or whatever they call it these days).
  12. One arm bandit, one way ride, One arm bandit, one more try, One way ticket, one horse town, One way ticket, no way down, One track mind (x4)
  13. VW gives Mickey a vote of confidence. Lugo to the injured list Cespedes fractured his ankle in a non-baseball related activity on his ranch in Florida. The hits just keep coming. Well everywhere except on the ball field.
  14. Disagree. Replay is a necessity, just not to the extent it's been taken. The original intent to ensure that the play that every one knew was wrong got corrected somehow morphed into super slo mo replays that nobody agrees on anyway. The original intent is still 100% relevant. In another thread a few months ago @row_33 nailed it. Limit replay to real-time play backs, no slo-mo.
  15. Sheer genius. If McBeane can find a way to trade a Jacksonville Jaguar and bring back an MVP caliber QB to compete with our QB I'm on board.
  16. Uninspiring pretty much sums up Mickeys tenure as Mets manager. I don't know that changing the manager will make a big difference, but now is as good a time as any to move on.
  17. Rounding the corner we come to a halt Doors fly open as we prepare for assault Out from the shadows step the dangerous boys Hands holding weapons, they treat them like toys A debutante Gretta, the taxidermist's daughter She knows what to say She knows how to mingle, she knows the lingo Muchachos we're here to see Johnny Representing the mambo
  18. Just let me hear some of that rock 'n' roll music Any old way you choose it It's got a back beat, you can't lose it Any old time you use it It's gotta be rock 'n' roll music If you wanna dance with me
  19. That is great point, hadn't thought of that. There was a game early in the season where DeGrom was shaking off D'Arnaud on seemingly every pitch and I thought that was a problem. I'm more concerned that DeGrom is tipping pitches but the catcher angle is intriguing.
  20. It must be summer 'Cause the days are long And I dial your number But you're gone, gone, gone I'd set out searching But the car won't start And it must be summer 'Cause I'm falling apart I try your sister On the Jersey Shore She said you might be stopping by But she's not sure So I call your mother On Long Island Sound She said it must be summer 'Cause you're never around
  21. Jenny jenny who can I turn to You give me something I can hold on to I know you'll think I'm like the others before Who saw your name and number on the wall
  22. Marlins had scored 8 runs in their last 7 games. So 7 against DeGrom was a no brainer, amirite? Plenty not to like about the Mets so far but I still feel good about this team. I'd feel better with a new manager, but I think if that happens it will mean that my good feeling is long since gone.
