  1. Everybody wants to know where jimmy has gone He left town, i doubt if he's coming back home Well tony got a job, three kids and a lovely wife Working at the commerce bank for the rest of his life Nobody left to run with anymore Nobody left to do the crazy things we used to do before
  2. Wish I was back on the Bayou. Rollin' with some Cajun Queen. Wishin' I were a fast freight train, Just a chooglin' on down to New Orleans
  3. Utley was cut from the same cloth as guys like Ty Cobb and Pete Rose. By no means did his career compare to theirs, but they all played on the edge. Rose wrecked Ray Fosse in a freaking All Star game. The one thing I'll say about Utley's "old school" style is that when the Mets finally got around to drilling him the next year he put his head down, kept his mouth shut and walked to first. He was a douche but understood what was coming. Pitchers like Gibson and Drysdale were merciless throwing at batters. In the WS, Thor throws one a foot over a guys head and nearly over the plate and it's a big deal. Gibson and Drysdale would have laughed at that attempt at a brush-back pitch. BTW, eff Utley!!
  4. Win looks inevitable. Shut out would be gravy. Cherry on top would be Marchand taking a big legal hit from someone.
  5. No doubt. Surprising after two periods of play.
  6. Just came across this article about the Mets recent use of a virtual reality simulator to prep batters for the pitcher they'll be facing. https://www.newsday.com/sports/baseball/mets/virtual-reality-hitting-tool-mets-1.32309681
  7. No new post in over a day, all good things must come to an end. This ones for WhoTom: I'll sing my song to the wide open spaces I'll sing my heart out to the infinite sea I'll sing my visions to the sky high mountains I'll sing my song to the free, to the free This song is over I'm left with only tears
  8. Hunter Pence touches home plate on an inside the park HR before a fielder even picks up the ball. https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/hunter-pence-hits-a-bizarre-uncontested-inside-the-park-home-run-at-fenway/
  9. At the time he stood out as a classless d-bag amongst a group of respected vets (Chipper, Maddux, Smoltz, Glavine, Andruw, Lopez,...). But for a short period of time he brought it as a lights out closer. Glad it didn't last.
  10. I'm not dialed in to the farm system or draft. Appreciate the info from you and others - wasn't aware of the high grade.
  11. I'm the man who walks the hillside in the sweet summer sun I'm the man that brings you roses when you ain't got none Well I can run and jump and fish, but I won't fight You if you want to push and pull with me all night Give me little drink From you loving cup Just one drink and I'll fall down drunk yeah
  12. I had a similar reaction to the headline except when I opened the link the first thing I saw was the kids name was Kumar and there's no way John Rocker named his kid Kumar. Rocker was a d!ck but at the time Mets/Braves was a great rivalry and he added to it. I loved hating the guy. And why do we always have a guy on a multi-year deal that we can't wait to get rid of. Bay, (sadly) Wright, Cespedes, Cano. The curse of Bonilla?
  13. It will get worse before it gets better - when Bruce faces us. I'm still happy he's gone, nice guy, just not my type of player.
  14. Great story. The fact that it was a highlight of your career (I'm assuming you went into the match somewhat intimidated) and you never lost serve speaks to your competitiveness.
  15. So do you think the UF guy was more competitive, more talented, luckier? Did you ever give in due to any of these? To me being competitive means giving it your all until the game is decided. I never lost that. What I did lose over time was talent and the inability to get over a loss - the latter is a sign of maturity not lack of competitiveness IMO.
  16. SNY just posted a great stat, wish I had a screen cap to share. In the past 7 years or so bullpens went from pitching around 33% of innings to 40%. In the same time their ERA went from around 3.5 to 4.5. Keith, Ron and Gary offered their typical great analysis: the shift to bullpen reliance is based on post season success and may not translate to the 162 game season. And sometimes post season bullpen success is the result of starters pitching out of the bullpen.
  17. Turned on the Mets game tonight in time for the Mets and umpires taking the field. First and second base umps (both older looking gents) were having a foot race down the first base line when one reached back to his leg...clearly tweaked (or worse) his hamstring. Never saw that before.
  18. I used to be ultra competitive but got soft as the years passed. I once came in first and third place in a jerking off contest. Nobody could beat me. Ya dig?
  19. What if I say I'm not like the others? What if I say I'm not just another one of your plays? You're the pretender What if I say I will never surrender?
  20. The old folks say that ya gotta end your date by ten If you're out on a date and you bring it home late it's a sin There just ain't no excusin', you know you're gonna lose and never win I'll say it again And it's all because your mama don't dance and your daddy don't rock and roll
  21. New Orleans queens Sure know how to schmooze it Maybe for some that seems alright When I step out, strut down with my sugar She'd best not talk like Barry White
  22. And lasts two at bats before returning from whence he came.
  23. Looks like equal parts happenstance and lack of hustle..I think it started because he slipped after the swing and it wasn't a very high pop-up. But after slipinghe should have been busting it down the line. The first baseman notices and may have told the second baseman to let it drop.
  24. "If you met him in person you would change your mind in 5 minutes" suggests to me that either he is incapable of presenting himself as polite/kind/gracious through his posts or he is not being polite/kind/gracious intentionally. I could care less either way, just think that 'If you met him in person" is weak.
  25. First game this year at Citi Field tonight. All good until the wheels came off top 10. Regardless, there's nothing like a nice summer night at the ball park with good friends.
