Bills “Big Nickel” package is a Big Fail
Sammy Watkins' Rib replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So we are giving up more points per pass attempt playing the regular nickel. We are also only giving up 6ppg since Vontae's early retirement. -
I have to admit his inaccuracy issues are on another level. A couple of those throws left you with your jaw open wondering how he could miss so badly on what seems like a routine throw. I think I have seen some similar throws from Blake Bortles in the past and it looks like has perhaps developed into at least a decent QB so I do have some hope for Allen still. But man Jacksonville has had some serious patience with Bortles. Will we have the same with Allen? Especially if our defense is not on the same level as Jacksonville's?

Predict Josh Allen's stats v the Vikings
Sammy Watkins' Rib replied to FeelingOnYouboty's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
These are almost exactly his numbers from the Chargers game. I'd say if he can reproduce those numbers again that would be pretty good. What I think we would all like to see is more accuracy on the short throws to the flat. Not place balls that force receivers to do a 180 degree adjustment to catch the ball. The most unrealistic thing here is the 49 attempts. Can't see it being over 40. Especially if the yardage isn't higher. We won't have the opportunity for that many plays unless we pretty much don't run at all. -
Much better? Absolutely not? The sample sizes are different too. If you cherry pick specific games maybe you could make the case that Allen was slightly better in his game against the Chargers than Darnold was in his last start against the Browns. With three whole games under his belt Darnold has seen twice as much action as Allen. Who knows what Allen will look like this week on the road against Minnesota. I need to see Allen take less sacks. He's been sacked 8 times in 1.5 games. Darnold has been sacked 7 times in 3 complete games. Not all the sacks are on Allen because we do have a bad line but still he could have easily avoided a few by making better decisions. All that said, I absolutely don not want Darnold to succeed as a Jets so I am thrilled that he played poorly last night. Hope it continues. But overall his stats on the season are clearly better than Allen's so far.

Would Brees get more top 5 and top 3 love if he were 3" taller? The guy is going to end his career leading pretty much every major statistical QB category. And just as Brady intends to it seems he is going to play into his 40's.

Excellent post BigDingus. None of us should have any faith in McDermott's or even Beane's ability to evaluate the QB position. I know Beane did not draft Peterman but he could have cut him at any time since he arrived here or brought in a legitimate veteran that Peterman would not have started over at anytime. Making things even more problematic is that we took the QB that on paper needs to be coached up the most. These coaches likely would have been better off with a more pro ready prospect like Rosen. All we can do at this point is hope for the best for Allen.

Predict Josh Allen's stats vs LA.

He'll be sacked 5 times. With Bosa not even playing. -
You gotta trade McCoy now... right?
Sammy Watkins' Rib replied to Rigotz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'd love to see him in Green Bay. I say trade him after we play the Packers week 4. I know we won't get much but he deserves to go to a winner. -
Mahomes sat pretty much the entire 2017 season. No reason why we couldn't have done the same with Allen. I understand our 2019 roster won't be on the level of the Chiefs roster this year but it has to be better than it is this year. It can't get any worse. Are there any Kyle Orton types out there we can pick up off the street?

Allen played with a terrible supporting cast at Wyoming. Maybe losing confidence is the wrong term to use. But it certainly doesn't seem that playing with a bad supporting cast at Wyoming has helped Allen any. Sure he still has confidence. But he hasn't been able to develop properly playing with such a bad cast. I just don't want the same thing to happen now in the the NFL.

I think part of the problem is that our defense has regressed and also isn't very good. These guys are also being evaluated in practice. They probably looks competent in practice due to the defense not being very good. And to be fair, Peterman did look much improved in the pre-season. I was surprised at how bad he played in the opener.

Peterman Stats - Historical Ranking?
Sammy Watkins' Rib replied to ngbills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm kind of in this boat as well. Peterman's #1 problem is that he's just not that good. But at the same time is he really this bad? Historically bad? Chargers don't have Bosa this week and the game is in Buffalo and not likely to be a blizzard. Got to think he can at least muster a normal bad game by NFL standards. I know a lot of people don't want to see Peterman start but I am okay with it for two more weeks. Let Allen start @ Green Bay after we get through the Purple People Eaters. -
Who Starts At QB For Week 2? (Poll)
Sammy Watkins' Rib replied to Paulus's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He might get hurt he might not. Whether he does or does not you are guaranteed to expose Allen to less abuse even if it means Allen has to come in halfway through the first quarter. The game we should really be concerned about is @ Minnesota week 3. I really didn't want Allen playing in that game at all unless he and the team were both looking competent. Starting Allen against the Chargers probably guarantees he will also start at Minnesota. -
Who Starts At QB For Week 2? (Poll)
Sammy Watkins' Rib replied to Paulus's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The only logic behind starting Peterman would be that you are terrified that Allen will get sacked 7 times, run for his life, concussed and pretty much ruin his career before he even has a legit chance to learn the game and develop. I am all for real game experience for rookie QBs but not if that experience is just getting beaten over the head again and again. -
Check in on Ravens Board
Sammy Watkins' Rib replied to JinxedBill1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree about not wanting to start Allen for that reason. He's not ready. Decision process is too slow at this point. Disagree that any QB would get killed behind this o-line. Peterman has looked much better behind the o-line. At that's Peterman. Not some all-pro QB like Brady or Rodgers who would make a line look even better. -

I continue to think that we will be pleasantly surprised by Peterman. Okay, based on what he did last year the bar is pretty low. But even if just 80% of the Peterman we saw in the pre-season shows up he will play fairly well. And love the fact that a lot of their fans are thinking shut out as predictions like that in the NFL often turn the other way. -

Pretty much every single QB comparison outside of Chad Pennington is going to have a "yeah but Peterman's arm is weaker" argument. With that being the case Cousins seems like a great comparison to me.

For the 2018 Bills, Mack = Mario
Sammy Watkins' Rib replied to george c's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He got old like they all do. Still not a bad signing though. We got exactly what could have been expected out of him. With Mack it's a little different because of the draft picks given up. You're going to want to either be a perennial playoff team with him for three straight years or at least have him play at a high level for 5 years instead of just 3. And with Mario I am guessing we would have gotten a lot more out of him in his fourth season with us if we hadn't switched the defense and hired Rex. -
I think we end up pleasantly surprised by the offense assuming Peterman starts most of the games. By pleasantly surprised I'm talking ranked around 22nd so still bottom third of the league but a slight improvement over last year. I think the defense takes a step back. 32nd seems unlikely though. But I could see us finishing in the 24-28 range.
