  1. He looked at Washington because of his coach. He also decided to not go there.
  2. Breaking News: Josh Allen isn’t as good as Russell Wilson. Percy Harvin got a migraine and then retired.
  3. You have to bear with Biscuit a little bit. The Dick Jauron Kool-Aid clearly had some residual side effects.
  4. Okay, let's forget the analogies, because I'm not sure we'll find a perfect one, Sacks are only a part of the expectations of a DT in McDermott and Frazier's defense. Phillips has been a valued contributor for his penetrating pass D but has not always maintained gap integrity against the rush. I'm sure the guy playing next to him knows that. If Phillips gets franchised and paid like a top 5 DT, the guy who just took a paycut could well be like "uhhhhh...." I don't think this is how the psychology of an NFL locker room works. By this same token, shouldn't Phillips have been going, "uhhhh" on his peanuts one year deal, while racking up sacks, because Star wasn't living up to his bloated contract? Gap integrity is well and good, but Star wasn't exactly lighting the field on fire this season. These guys are professionals. They know contracts are dictated by leverage and a million other factors. I doubt Phillips was counting Star's money to the point of being a detriment to the team. And Star just willingly took a paycut in a year where we have $80M in cap space. Do you really think the Beane pitch was, "we need you to be a team player and take a marginal paycut because we need the extra cap space this season?" No chance. I don't think the guy who took a paycut because he kinda sucked is in any position to make noise when another DT (who made NOTHING in the last two years) gets his payday. Furthermore, if we have a culture where everyone is counting each other's checks, we have bigger problems. Making a guy an offer that's well above his value to the team is probably not a good long-term overall strategy, just because it's a cap-flush year. Guys get paid above value every year in the NFL. That's how free agency works. No one is saying, "franchise tag every middling UFA every year." It's this season. Phillips did his prove it deal last season. I doubt he settles again when his value may never be higher. He will have a nice market in FA.
  5. Um, so we can say we overpaid a geriatric player if we sign him for anything more than league minimum, or cry if he goes to another team and say McD can’t attract good free agents because everyone sucks. Make your move Greg, I’m ready!
  6. Win 10 games and get a WC spot and no one will care.
  7. What defensive tackle is eligible for extension? Star just took a pay cut, and Phillips and Oliver are on rookie deals. None of those 3 had as many sacks as JP did last year. He arguably outperformed all of them. And Harrison Phillips coming off an ACL tear is gonna say “uhhh” if Jordan gets paid? It’s just one of those things that sounds plausible but does not hold up past a cursory examination.
  8. What? Teams overpay free agents or impending free agents all the time. We paid Morse a ton, is Dawkins going to hold out? We paid John Brown quite a bit, is Isaiah McKenzie demanding “that too?” That’s an argument that is not supported at all in the modern NFL.
  9. His argument is that losing Phillips for nothing is bad and you’ll have to pay something to replace him (at almost a guaranteed lower production). Giving Phillips a multiple year deal that will beat the market, (aka probably not some team friendly out in 2 year deal) is also bad. Controlling Phillips for 1 year, not letting him test the market, may be preferable even with a higher 1 year pricetag.
  10. I’m sure the other 31 GM’s are now utterly convinced that the Chargers aren’t taking a QB. These antics are so tiresome and fool nobody. Why even bother?
  11. Not sure Ford starts the whole year if that other RT stays healthy. Also, this idea that anybody who starts on a playoff team isn’t a negative asset by definition is kinda crazy. Zay Jones started on the 2017 playoff team, was he good?
  12. Players who are living up to their contracts usually don’t take pay cuts.
  13. WR? Yeah, that’s why we’re trading up. RT? Well we just drafted Cody Ford so I guess you’re expecting a third round rookie to be better than him from the jump? We need to spend a high draft pick on a SLB who is gonna see the field <50% of snaps? CB? Were we bad at CB last year? Feel like we have a top 3 CB already and had a great pass defense. We also have a couple quality slot DBs. It’s hardly a desperate need. DE would be nice but it’s hard to draft an impact rookie at that position in the mid rounds. The bottom line is that this team doesn’t have a lot of needs when it comes to the modern NFL. Every team has “needs” that boil down “it’d be nice to have an upgrade.” We really “need” a WR and maybe a DE and that’s it. Every other position on top of that is just a bonus. Possibly DT???! How many DT’s do we need? We have Oliver and Phillips already! Are we really saying we should pass on a day one starter type player at WR because we need a rotational defensive tackle???
  14. Blake Bortles? You are far too harsh on his contract, which was quite reasonable for both parties.
  15. Does every potential Bills prospect have to be the reincarnation of mediocre former Bill?
  16. Oh really? I heard they were the same guys like basically Tyrod’s whole stint here.
  17. Man, if only there was a journeyman professional QB that Mahomes could have learned from on the Bills.
  18. Man, imagine if we passed on Mahomes because he was a risky pick, multiple teams didn’t have him that high on their board etc etc and then the VERY NEXT YEAR we took an extremely risky, all the physical tools, QB prospect who many teams thought had a high bust potential and some didn’t have first round grades on him. That would be so wild. To your other “point,” the idea the Bills were NEVER taking a QB in 2017 is an indictment on them more than anything else. QB is #1 team building priority, not defensive backs. A really great QB makes all the difference. I’m not a fortune teller, but I feel pretty confident in my prediction that Allen won’t be an MVP or Super Bow MVP before 25. Not because I think he sucks, but because those are insane accomplishments to reach that young. If Allen wins a Bills Super Bowl, it’ll all be fine. But if he doesn’t, the next 15 years will be all Mahomes all the time. And justifiably so.
  19. The Bears traded up for a different QB with a different team. The Bills traded the pick used to take Mahomes to the Chiefs with Tyrod Taylor under center.
