That sounds exactly like my father-in-law. He got cancer, went as long as he could but the way things unfolded he was unable to sell his practice. My wife growing up was his assistant for weekend and evening emergencies.

25 % of the way through, what does success look like for 2024?
Augie replied to Chaos's topic in The Stadium Wall
If this is a marathon, a bench would look like a successful outcome. Oh, football……we have a long way to go. Never get too high or too low. -
I’m sorry, I just got lost……

I think he may be working on correcting the bold for you. Stuff happens, but why does STUFF always seem so much larger and more dramatic for the Bills? Why do we have to lose in such spectacular fashion? It’s pretty remarkable, but you don’t want that to be the one thing you are known for. 😂

What's on your Mt. Rushmore of Halloween/Horror Movies?
Augie replied to BillsPride12's topic in Off the Wall
Young Frankenstein. Horror really isn’t my thing. I remember my much older sister taking me to The Exorcist when it came out. Maybe that left a mark? The Omen kinda freaked me out too. EDIT: I would argue The Wizard of Oz is horror too. Those damn monkeys will keep a little kid awake at night! 😂 . -
Those were my first two years of marriage. My bride asked “why do you do this to yourself?” But I never stopped, though I am currently wavering on the NFL as a whole. For me it’s Bills football and Xavier basketball. I usually have something to feel good about, but I’ve learned over the decades that sometimes we need to step back and realize it’s a game, and I’m not even playing. It’s entertainment.

Unrelated to dentists, my wife was having some serious issues that nobody could pinpoint. They ran tests and found something abnormal on her pancreas. She was referred to an oncologist who could not see her for FOUR MONTHS. Four months just to come in and get started for something abnormal on her pancreas! It makes me think of the ending of Top Gun when he basically says this thing could be over well before that. Thru a miracle my wife met someone who made a phone call and got her in with one of the top OB/GYN’s in the country the next day. My SIL is an OB/GYN a few hours away, and she wanted to come just to meet this guy. Apparently he’s a rock star in that world. He asked how long ago the film was of the pancreas. She told him and he confidently said “that’s not it, you’d be dead by now.” The lack of urgency for what might have been a life threatening event was shocking to me. He did the surgery and changed our lives.

Josh Allen Performance Yesterday..a Redux
Augie replied to Rich Stadium Original's topic in The Stadium Wall
I liked the tweet yesterday that the last time we properly executed a screen play Thurman scored a TD. 😂 -
10/6/2024 - Bills at Texans post game thread.
Augie replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
My son hated how he handled that long ball with the difficult tracking over his head. The one he couldn’t quite reach because it wasn’t a perfect throw. My son was a high school QB. It gets easier with a better throw! 😂 -

THAT looked more like our offense! -

The loser should have to wear those uniforms next week. -
Rogers throws TWO 1st quarter picks, then Sauce Gardner actually gets called for being handsy (finally) giving up a 1st down. It’s a nice start to Sunday Morning Football.

Have you ever quit following a sports team?
Augie replied to Miyagi-Do Karate's topic in Off the Wall
Otherwise rational adults turn into delusional fools when it comes to youth sports. My high school age kids would ref little kids hoops and at times would have to eject the 45 year old Dads who were coaching the games. Adults making damn fools of themselves displaying their delusions of grandeur. -
That is ALL I do when I get back to Buffalo. After 5-7 meals a day for a while I crave a salad and a good cleansing. 😂

Whether the Bills are interested or not, it doesn’t hurt to have your name in the mix to show real or perceived interest. More “interest” might drive the price up a bit for Jet’s or Chiefs or whoever. I guess the only downside is reading all the reaction on TBD about how they blew it, but that is coming either way. 😊 .

I think he could make a fine #1 Diva. Seriously, how did he think this was going to work out for him?
-
It’s like whack-a-mole. I want better WR’s too, but I want to find a middle ground between where we are and where the Dolphins are. Invest TOO MUCH at WR, and you get exposed in other areas where your resources did not go. When we improve at WR, and I believe it will be a serious priority before next season, people will complain that we let this guy or that guy go, or we have no depth at some other position. We can’t have it all.
-
People can always find something to complain about. We could use more of this or that, a true #1 WR, better depth everywhere, etc. The problem is, every team wishes they had more cap space and more draft picks, including Beane and the Bills. Nobody has a perfect batting record, including Beane and the Bills, but they are doing much better than most. .

It’s like Monopoly or Risk, except it actually does never end!

It’s always a pleasant surprise when a fresh idea pops up. This was not that.

My wife used to work with a couple guys who started riding the narrow, windy, hilly streets of Buckhead together. I said that was great, now when they wreck they have someone to call the ambulance for them. Sure enough, just a couple months later one of them flew over the handle bars breaking his collarbone and knocking his front teeth out. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve come around a narrow bend in the road and almost soiled my seat because there was a biker with a death wish in the road.

I will say, Covid threw the schedule off. I’m not sure how long they were closed, or how far behind I got on cleanings and checkups, but it was substantial. Of course, my wife started going back long before I did. She pays for an extra visit every year. (I swear she’s otherwise pretty normal.)

My dentist as a kid in Hamburg did not believe in novocaine or numbing to do any work, he would just put headphones on us. Needless to say, I don’t need to hear what he’s doing to know it hurts. My two sisters and I were all traumatized, but this clown was a friend of my parents. As a result of my serious aversion/phobia, I allowed myself to get behind the eight ball in terms of dental work. Fast forward to young adulthood, and I married a dentist’s daughter. She would assist him on evening and weekend emergencies. She insisted that she could hold a mirror and watch Dad extract her wisdom teeth. She often says she loves working with her hands (quite true) and she should have taken over her dad’s practice. We would not seem compatible on the surface in terms of how we viewed dentists. She wanted to be one, I wanted to shoot them all. I still despise going, but I stay on my routine and avoid letting anything getting worse than it has to.
