Bills Related Draft News & Discussion

For sure, he isn't the best tackler in the run game. But the Bills need to defend the pass better. Grant doesn't help us there. Hariston does. -
Or right in the mix with AJ and Groot. Hence meh.

What is your favorite serendipitous draft story?
GunnerBill replied to FireChans's topic in The Stadium Wall
Matt Millen announcing to his entire staff the day before the 2005 draft that "if DeMarcus Ware is there we are sprinting in the card no matter what!" Only to then allow a national scout to talk him into wide receiver Mike Williams while he was on the clock..... meaning he had taken a receiver in the top 10 three years running. Fire Millen indeed. -
Meh. I don't think he is going to be a difference maker in the NFL. He will be another 6-8 sack guy.

TSW 2.0 Poll - Who should the Bills select at #62
GunnerBill replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall
It is too early IMO. I also think he is a nickel at the next level. I like him. Like him a lot. Don't like the idea of him in round 2 and make him your starting outside corner. -
I'd do it. If this was the board I'd do it. The best two players on the board by far (if we are discounting Bond for off-field reasons) are a DT - we have already picked two and an OT - we have two established starters on the team and other needs. Sliding back 15 gets you into the spot where I do think a Nohl Williams or a Zy Alexander make sense or you could go for one of the speedier receivers - Royals, Felton, etc.... If you are picking here and you are discounting DT and OT it is Tre Harris or Jack Sawyer for me and while both those guys are at positions of need they are not the ideal profiles the Bills need at those spots.

He'd be a reach here and a considerable one IMO. I have a 4th round grade on him. -
TSW 2.0 Poll - Who should the Bills select at #62

He is a better outside receiver than Coleman. He is just better at varying his play speed and the tempo of his routes and he understands leverage and uses it against coverage, rather than playing to the coverage the way Keon does. He is also better at the top of the route. I don't think he has Keon's level of ability after the catch but I think he will win outside more often. I'm not pounding the table for Harris, and I didn't vote for him, but I wouldn't hate him here based on the value compared to what else is on the board. I agree that he doesn't bring the speed element the Bills are lacking. Likewise I am not pounding the table for Royals either but I'd be fine with him as well based on value. What I hate the idea of doing here is reaching for someone based on perceived need. Harris is legit a top five BPA at this stage of the draft. -

Yea RTG is passer rating when targeted I believe and YSNP is Yards per snap (so total yards given up divided by snaps played in man or zone) and FI% is forced incompletion percentage. -
Yea - hiring Jauron you can put legitimately on Marv. And indirectly, I'm sure Jauron had an impact on their draft... so that is true but that was the extent of Marv's influence on the draft. Modrak was the GM. Brandon was the Assistant GM. Marv was just the palatable front man. He wasn't even in the draft room when the Bills traded up for McCargo. That's how much actual influence he had.
-
He was never actually the GM in anything but name though, was he? Tom Modrak was running those drafts from home with Russ Brandon as his lacky on the end of a telephone. Marv, bless him, slept through scouting meetings and was not even present in the draft room for multiple picks in his first draft.

Interesting. Nohl Williams's zone numbers are better and his man numbers worse than I'd have guessed off the games of his I've watched. He is my CB10 after the normal nine names have gone. Might bring him into my thinking at the bottom of the 2nd. I'd consider Harmon. He'd be tough for me to pass on. I'd take Amos or Hariston over Grant. -
TSW 2.0 Poll - Who should the Bills select at #56
GunnerBill replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall
I'd be genuinely really surprised if any corners beyond the names regularly mentioned here: Hunter, Barron, Johnson, Revel, Amos, Hariston, Morrison, Thomas, Porter actually go in the first two rounds. The one I give a squeak to is Nohl Williams. I know, 32 different teams, 32 different boards, but there genuinely is a very clear drop off to my eye and the draft has so much strength at defensive line I think teams will be reluctant to reach down the board for cornerbacks. -
On Frazier specifically, man the transitions concern me. I get major Kaiir Elam vibes. The ball production you like and he is athletic.... but I just see those long limbs all over the place in transition and I think that will hurt him at the next level.

How big is the board this year @BringBackFergy?

I probably would trade back but TJ Sanders is sticking out so far on my board.... given the way this draft has gone it would be mad to pick him but he is the best player remaining by a long, long way. -

They are taking Amos if he is there at 30. I am increasingly convinced of it. On Phillips, while I'm here, I watched his tape before the Shrine Bowl and was really excited to see him in that game and thought he's dominate and he was just okay in the game. I like the kid a lot and an all star game isn't the be all and end all but it would just give me slight pause. -
They were trying to get him the NCAA rushing record. Actively. So if he was out there they were running him rather than using him more multi functionally as they did the previous year. Which meant teams knew he was running at them and he still ran at them for 7ypc. Impressive.
-
He is a little lower on my board - just outside the top 100 - but I think if you want a Cook replacement that you can find a way to roster with Cook for a year in 2025 he is the way to do it. Because you can roster him as a 4th back but mainly have him play teams this coming season so he essentially replaces Codrington on the 53 and then takes over as one of the main ball carriers in 2026.

Hmm. To me it is a recipe to continue finding good players but not great ones. -
TSW 2.0 Poll - Who should the Bills select at #56
GunnerBill replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall
That is the very essence of drafting for need though. None of the next tier of corners belong here IMO. I'm higher than most on Zy Alexander and I think he is a scheme fit for the Bills.... but he doesn't belong here either. If that's what they do we will be looking back in two years going "man that guy they passed on who went 3/4/5 picks later would have been nice" -

Agree. I don't think it is beyond the realm of possibility that he ends up undrafted. -
100%. No contest since Stef left.
