That blind squirrel found a nut 2 years in a row. If that guy can get a team that far on defense alone, then sign me up for some of that. I wonder how far he would take the Bills with their existing roster?

I would like to hear the drum core play more often. Seems like they only play their drums a few times each game. They should do a lot more Lets go Buffalo chants. Bring the cheerleaders back. I miss the flyovers from Niagara Falls Air Force Base. Wish there were more frequent Patriotic pregame events. It was nice when there used to be flyovers and then the pilots would get into the game for free afterwards. I think that was Ralph's doing that made that happen. That would be nice to see again. As far as existing changes that were made....thumbs up on the extra men's rooms, wider supergates, wider walkways & stairs into the stadium,

Didn't Rex take the Jets to the AFC Championship with dirty Sanchez at QB? How the hell do you explain that without exceptional coaching? I see him winning a Superbowl one day.

Hackett is bad, like very bad
PolishDave replied to Clippers of Nfl's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think one of Hackett's biggest faults is that he is not calling enough plays to take a shot deep. We saw it a couple of times this passed week, but in my opinion we need to see it a lot more. Teams still disrespect the Bills' deep threat. And it seems like teams are really capitalizing on the penalties that these deep shots often draw. If the Bills made teams worry about getting beat deep, I think we would see better production from the running game and from the short passing game. Hackett has a tendency to call ultra-conservative plays to start series - the infamous run, run, short pass. I wish he would turn one of those runs into (take a shot deep). -
I agree with you for the most part except when in 3rd and long passing situations. I say you blitz in that situation every time, changing the way in which you do it each time. Schwartz usually won't blitz even in that situation. He will let Brady sit back and wait for a man to come open. Also, if you don't let guys like Brady take their time, then you take away the number of opportunities they have to throw the long ball. And those long balls result in big plays for them a lot of the time between completions and drawn flags. I say, bring more pressure, make them execute short passes under duress.

Schwartz's scheme isn't why Dareus is playing well. Dareus is double teamed most of the time and still making plays. It isn't because of some awesome scheme they are putting him in. It is because Dareus is having the type of year he showed potential to have way back when he was in college. You mention the New England game in one sentence and in the very next sentence say that Schwartz is getting superb results. I think you forgot how the Patriots could have sent their punter on a beer run during the entire second half of the Bills game. As the Patriots and Charges games showed, this Bills team will get destroyed by a good quarterback, which in my opinion is because Schwartz doesn't bring enough pressure on them especially in obvious passing situations. Quarterback pressure isn't the answer to everything, but it is the answer to beating teams with elite quarterbacks. You have to get them to throw the ball earlier than they want to. You can't let them sit back and take their time. Unless Schwartz finds a way to get pressure on good quarterbacks, the Bills will be incapable of beating a playoff caliber team. And they won't be able to win the AFC East.

It is the coaches' job to train players to execute the coaches' plays properly. It is the coaches' job to teach players what will draw flags and what won't. That is why they call them coaches and not just "play designers". If it is the same player making the same mistakes week after week, then you can say it is a player talent problem. If it is different players making the mistakes week after week, then you can place more blame on the coaches not doing their jobs well enough. (In my opinion) -
Returning to the stadium for the first time in 7 years

Next time you are in that situation, buy one of those $9 beers from the "Beer Line". They sell it in paper cups. Chug the beer. Then cut the bottom out of the paper cup and you have yourself a little megaphone to yell through. Then when you scream you can point that sucker right in her ear and funnel all 200 decibels right where they will be most effective. Vikings game fans were worse than previous games this year in my section. Seems like there were a lot more noobs there this time. They just don't get it. There was a 50 year old lady a couple rows behind me screaming her head off every time the Bills got the ball. I just shrug and shake my head. Can't fix stupid. -
Geno won't have a good game against the Bills defense. And this game won't be as ugly as it was last year when the Jets had 20 penalties and were just begging the Bills to beat them. The Bills are going to win this one and bring the Jets back down to reality. The Jets suck. Their record is what it is because they suck. Orton is spreading the ball around well. I think the Bills take a big step forward this week and start looking more impressive.

MNF: Texans at Steelers - 8:30 EDT on ESPN
PolishDave replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Fitzy off to a good start. I love to see the Steelers lose, mostly because the Bills can't seem to ever beat them even when they play 3rd stringers. I hope Watt is a one man wrecking crew even more destructive than what he did to the Bills. -
Official Pre-Game Thread: Week 7, Vikings at Bills
PolishDave replied to Dan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I predict the Bills will here plenty of boos today if the first play from scrimmage on offense is a handoff to CJ running between the tackles. Another typical 3 and out on the Bills first possession could set a negative tone for the day that results in an embarrassing game. We better see some new plays and play calling on offense today. At least that would show the coaching staff is actually trying to find something that works. -

All-22 Review - Bills/Patriots
PolishDave replied to angryfan62's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree. The gameplan is what I don't get. I hate that it takes about 4 losses against them before our coaches realize what you have to do to beat the Patriots. You have to blitz Brady. You have to make him beat the blitz. Yes he does do that sometimes, but not all the time, especially when the pressure comes up the middle. You get to him early so he has a bad game. Don't let him get comfortable. Make it as hard for him as possible. You do that by putting him on his ass play after play until he gets flustered. He is a very emotional player. By the time the coaches realize this, they will be run out of town. Same as last coaching crew. Same as coaching crew before them. Then we will get a new staff that just repeats the process again until Brady finally retires. -
Hackett not properly using Spiller & Jackson
PolishDave replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Pick a back that is on this squad and keep running the same plays. Maybe a different back gets an extra yard maybe 2. The result is basically the same. Only an idiot would keep running those plays again and again and again. If you are making a case that the RB is the problem fine, but what kind of idiot coach keeps giving him the ball in situations he isn't going to succeed in? Face it. Hackett sucks. Let's put it another way.... If your eight year old son kept touching hot pans on the stove again and again and again like 2 minutes apart and burned his hand every time, you would take him to a doctor for psychological evaluation. You would think maybe your kid is mentally handicapped or something, Why does Hackett keep touching the hot friggin pan the first play of every game and then retouching it again and again and again as the game goes on? -
Hackett not properly using Spiller & Jackson
PolishDave replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think the fact that Hackett keeps doing the same things that aren't working again and again and again makes it painfully obvious that he just doesn't have the football knowledge needed to coach at this level. What kind of idiot keeps doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result? His coaching style is broken and he doesn't have the knowledge or experience to know how to fix it. Dude is a bust. He sucks. Get him out. -
Sullivans Monday Patriots/Bills Column
PolishDave replied to BuffaloBillsForever's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
How is it that every single Bills fan knows this, but yet the coaching staff here a.k.a. Marrone and Schwartz don't know it? And by the time they learn that knowledge they will have their heads on the chopping block. That is how it goes when you come coach in Buffalo. -
I agree that the Bills run defense is impressive and among the best in the league. I don’t like the Bills defense vs. teams with great quarterbacks though. I think it is more of a scheme thing than a player talent issue. Based on the two best quarterbacks we faced this year, Rivers and Brady, this defense doesn’t look so good. Stopping the run is great but you have to get after the quarterback. If you don’t get enough pressure on the good QB’s then you aren’t going to beat them. And if you can’t beat a team like San Diego or New England, then your team has no business making the playoffs. Even if you get there you won’t win. That is my main beef with the Bills D. They have to get better at pressuring these really good quarterbacks. Schwartz appeared to learn nothing from playing Rivers. Obviously he can coach to stuff the run with a talented d line like Buffalo has. But can he pressure a really good QB? After two games the answer is NO. Will it be different when we play Manning or Rogers or Brady again? What reason is there to think it will be different?

Aaron Williams gets us a lot closer yesterday.
PolishDave replied to qblax16's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I hear you but how many times can you say this about Gilmore? It seems like you can say that about him every single friggin week. Isn't it weird how many times he seems to have a guy covered but yet he ends up giving up a big play to that guy anyway? -
Sullivans Monday Patriots/Bills Column
PolishDave replied to BuffaloBillsForever's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes they very likely will shred the Bills D because the so called savior "Schwartz" refuses to blitz. This was my fear going into the game yesterday. After watching Rivers kill the Bills with his arm and a lack of pass rush, I wondered if we would see the same thing happen with another elite passer. The lack of a consistent pass rush allowed Brady to get very comfortable and pick the Bills apart. I expect Manning and Rogers will do the same if Schwartz follows the same philosophy. -
If that was the case then the Bills sideline would have been going Apeshit. They would have insisted that they be told what the infraction was. They must have been told. Otherwise this would be national news by now. I think it was just poor officiating by not following normal protocol and rushing the spot.
-
It may have been an offsides call but I could be wrong. I thought it was odd too that they marked off the yardage so fast and also did not see the ref signal what the penalty was. But the guy next to me at the game did actually see the flag.
-
This^^ There was a penalty against the Bills on that play that gave the Pats the first down. I was wondering WTF? also, till the guy next to me pointed out that there was a penalty.

I'm just about done with Marrone and Hackett
PolishDave replied to Bangarang's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This also drives me crazy and makes me question whether these guys will ever be good in the NFL, whether here or anywhere else. Until they learn to adapt better, which they may never learn, I suspect they are going to have below average success. I actually thought that Hackett was getting better this year. But after watching them still run the same ineffective plays with the same ineffective personnel, game after friggin game, I am throwing in the towel on him. Get him out of here. Fine, wait till the end of the season, but please get him out of here. If Marrone refuses to remain coach without his little buddy, then can him too.
