Is this worst weekend day of the year for sports?
Kirby Jackson replied to Ethan in Cleveland's topic in The Stadium Wall
It’s an awful sports day. The first Saturday without meaningful football is always depressing. Army & Navy are at least both pretty good but that game is still a “background game” to me. The 1st Saturday with meaningful football is like Christmas. This day is like the day you start taking your decorations down. -
I don’t know of anyone that has taken it. I wouldn’t recommend it though because control when leaving is crucial. Coming to the stadium is easy because the times are so staggered. I usually arrive 4:30 hours before kickoff. I can get there in 23 minutes from my house. When the game ends the experience can be vastly different. We have mastered the egress since childhood. You need to be purposeful and swift. I can get home in under 30 minutes while seeing the whole game if done correctly. The second that the game is decided we head to the gate. There are no bathroom stops allowed at that point. Lol, sometimes Jessica struggles with this. If you have to go, use the 2 minute warning. If the game is 1 sided it is much less important as the stadium empties at different times. Park as close to the exit of your lot as you can. Get in your car. Don’t mess around and get into the street. If McKinley is a part of your route home, cut through the parking lot by Wegmans. Get to the Thruway. You won’t regret it. It can legitimately save up to 2+ hours if done correctly. Getting stuck after is the absolute worst. Last tip, absolutely, 100% DO NOT park in a stadium lot. It is a nightmare.

My presale was at 10 AM. Tried to get extra AFC Championship tickets. Yeah, that didn’t happen.

Honestly, he reminds me more of Thomas Smith but point taken. I think that the Elam situation is more a function of the organization than him. They are so worried about him getting beaten or penalized that they don’t play him. They are willing to sacrifice his playmaking in exchange for solid play with potentially less mistakes. Personally, it should be situation dependent. Before the game the other day my brother and I were talking about how that was an ideal game to play him a bunch. The Rams crush the zone so you needed to play some man. He can help there. That holds true against teams like the Bengals as well. Put him on Chase for a little while. He will get beaten some but might make a play or 2 that changes the game. It’s better than the death by 1,000 paper cuts from Sunday.

The deal is that the Bills have no idea what to do with him. Elam is a physical, at times handsy, CB that is aggressive playing the ball. The Bills conservative style is an odd fit with him. I suspect that they don’t like that he can get beat and sometimes struggles getting off blocks in the run game. The flipside is that he has the physical tools to match up with great receivers. He will get beat some but also make some plays. The Bills try so hard to “bend but not break” that he ends up not playing. The reality is that he should play some vs. the best receivers. Mirroring Puka the other day would have been nice. I’m confident that he wouldn’t have produced the game he produced otherwise. The Bills are so set on sitting in that soft zone that they can get shredded by slot receivers and TEs. They did. Stafford was the top rated QB in the NFL vs. zone entering the game the other day. The Bills seemingly played it all day and got 1 stop I think (excluding the last series where they were running out the clock). This one goes to coaching.

McD will be the scapegoat to hide the real issue this week
Kirby Jackson replied to Cray51's topic in The Stadium Wall
He’s is the real issue and has been. He’s made way more crucial errors that have cost games than he has shrewd decisions that have stolen games. That being said, I had no issue with accepting the penalty. The Rams were going otherwise. Backing them up was the only way to potentially force a punt. They were never kicking a FG to go up 6. The 1st down sneak is way less forgivable. I was screaming at the TV before they lined up. You HAD to throw 4 times from there. The only chance was to preserve 3 TOs and hope to kick a long FG at the buzzer. That was him not understanding the situation. -
12/8/24 Game 14 GAMEDAY! Bills vs Rams 1st half game Thread

Epenesa is playing as bad of a 1/2 as I can remember a Bills player playing. Horrendous 1/2 -
SMU it is. For everyone worried that the playoff would water down the regular season and conference championship games, it didn’t. This was exciting.

I think it’ll be Bama. I’m not even sure if I agree or disagree with that. Your points are valid. The only thing that makes me pause is that the committee doesn’t want to set a precedent that losing in a conference championship game could hurt you. Teams will be opting out like players do in bowl games. SMU telling the ACC, “naw, we’re good without playing in your championship game” would’ve had them in the playoff. This will be super interesting.

Should Bills Draft a Back-up QB? Who?
Kirby Jackson replied to NORWOODS FOOT's topic in The Stadium Wall
Not picking on you but this is a GIANT pet peeve of mine. The backup QB role isn’t about, “can the team win the Super Bowl if the starter is out?” While that has happened a few times before (Foles, Hostetler, etc), that isn’t the purpose. If Allen were to miss 4 weeks(ish), could the Bills win 2 or 3 of those games to maintain their playoff seeding? If you’re looking at a backup QB any other way, you’re doing it wrong. Mitch is okay but I liked him more before the move to Pittsburgh. Tyrod would be the perfect backup for this team but don’t know his contract situation. You should always be drafting and developing a guy as well. You need to do that every 2 or 3 years. I am not talking about some guy with no physical skills like Peterman or Fromm. Those guys didn’t have the physical traits to ever get better. Don’t buy game managers from college in the late rounds. You can throw a rock and find backups around the league like that. Buy physical tools and hope to develop them. Riley Leonard is a name that comes to mind. He’s 6’4” with a good arm. He’s skinny now but maybe you can bulk him up some. He has a high school track background as well. Its worth a 5th and a couple of PS years to see if he can become a player. -

What’s it gonna take to improve /prioritize our run defense?
Kirby Jackson replied to Jistafan's topic in The Stadium Wall
It is kind of an opinion but it’s pretty annoying. Last year the Bills had Ford and he was inactive. This year, he’s playing at a Pro Bowl level. -

This year has been amazing!! There are very few areas to nitpick. Seeing number 13 on this list this morning was a little annoying: -

Week 14, Bills v. Rams, PREDICT THE SCORE!

Bills 31 Rams 13 -
I was somewhere between a 2 and 4. I wanted a change because Josh Allen will only be in his prime for so long. It has felt like McDermott had taken this team as far as he could. This year, he seems to have taken a step forward. This is absolutely his best coaching job. The team is playing loose and making good adjustments. We haven’t seen too many mind-numbing clock or challenge issues. He still uses too many defensive timeouts for my liking but that’s nitpicking. McDermott belongs in the COY conversation. He’s been excellent. Barring a major collapse on his part in the postseason, he should be back (even without a Super Bowl).

Best I've felt about the bills since 2020
Kirby Jackson replied to Steptide's topic in The Stadium Wall
The Bills are winning the Super Bowl. I’ve tried to remain objective and not get ahead of myself. That’s over now. The Bills just feel like a championship team and nothing can derail them at the moment. Book your flights to New Orleans now. -
I don’t “want” any particular answer. I want consistency. If a win over Wentz means less to you than a win over Mahomes, than the Super Bowl against Hostetler wouldn’t have been as satisfying as if Simms played. That’s what consistency would look like. I don’t care what anyone believes. The thing that makes this place best is when people stick to their beliefs. If he said, “that Super Bowl win wouldn’t have meant as much to me as if Simms played,” I would respect that. The best posters are the ones that support their positions and remain steadfast when challenged. There are lots of people on here who have said outlandish things. Stick to your guns if you really believe it.

Hypocrisy and hyperbole have gotten out of control on this board over the last few years. When someone says something dumb, it should have a light on it. You obviously didn’t answer the Hostetler/Simms question because it would either make you a hypocrite or a bad fan. I expected this kind of response. Instead of backpedaling to “a win is most important” you stuck to your guns that they all aren’t created equal. If you’re being consistent, we can all assume that you would have thought less of the Bills, if they won in Super Bowl XXV because Simms was out. Do you now understand why your original point has been criticized by so many?
