Predict the division winner: AFC South
Kirby Jackson replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is a fairly balanced division of Luck is healthy. Jacksonville to me though is one of the best teams in football. I don’t see them regressing. -
It’s kind of weird but most of my best friends here are Bills fans. We all met through our Bills Backers Group but we are probably together 4-5 days a week and talk daily. We then have an extended group of probably another 20 or so Bills fans that we hang out with a handful of times in the offseason. It’s kind of cool.

AFC East....best potential QBs
Kirby Jackson replied to The Process's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, Wentz and Dak have quite the head start on them. They have each finished in the top 6 of MVP voting within their first 2 years. The bar is pretty high. From a talent standpoint I’d probably agree but they are playing catch-up. -

I didn’t open it yet but I’d imagine that the Gallagher brothers have to be pretty high? They HATE each other. -

That’s why Holmes is a lock. He needs to be thought of like Marcus Easley was. He isn’t a lock because of his receiving skills. He’s a lock because of his role on ST. Mike Love -

I’m cutting Logan Thomas and Adolphus Washington. I’m adding Ray Ray and Reilly. Id cut Vallejo and find a CB via trade or that gets released. -
Allen should start with #1's
Kirby Jackson replied to Niagara Dude's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I’m actually surprised that anyone left that game not impressed by Allen. I said it in another thread but the guys that I was with that were Steeler fans were blown away. They were criticizing us for not being in love. He looked like a 14 year-old kid with a fake birth certificate playing in the Little League World Series. He was so much better than any player on the field. I don’t see any reason to not play him with, and against, better players. Throwing to NFL receivers, behind and NFL OL, against NFL defenders, is the only way his development continues. We already know he can play back yard football. We saw it at Wyoming and we saw it Thursday. He will always be able to keep plays alive, make plays with his feet and hurt you down the field. Allen needs to develop his play in the pocket and work on his base. That’s how he will be more consistent and move closer to his massive ceiling. That’s not going to happen playing behind Adam Redmond and throwing the ball to Foster and Proehl. -
AFC East....best potential QBs

You want to include Peterman and McCarron but not Dak?!? Yeah, I didn’t know how far back he was going. The AFC South would qualify if we go back a few more years. If we include Wilson the NFC West is by far the best. -

Where do you draw the line on seasoned vets? Darnold and Allen are high end young QBs but Miami and New England have nobody at this point. The NFC West has Rosen, Goff and Jimmy G. That’s definitely better. Dak and Wentz is better as well. Darnold and Allen will be in the conversation if they play to their abilities. -
I agree John. He is going to make a lot of big plays but is never going to be a 70% completion guy. Corey Coleman is a nice addition based on what I saw the other day. Allen is going to challenge teams down the field and do some damage. It is the touch passes and the easier throws that need improvement.

Khalil Mack holding out... in Buffalo
Kirby Jackson replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If that’s the case Mack my sit out the whole year and lose the $13.8M. He’s looking at $70M guaranteed next year. Mack is in a unique situation where he can do that. He can go to the Raiders and say, “I want a long term deal or I’m not reporting.” The Raiders can concede by forgoing the tag to get Mack back playing this year. I actually think that is the likeliest scenario at this point. -
The thing to me that was exciting is that he made some plays that other guys can’t. I mean there are some GREAT QBs that could have made that throw to Lee or that TD throw. Brady and Brees couldn’t have. Now before off someone goes on about claims that he is better than Brady or Brees that’s not what I’m saying. I’m saying those guys couldn’t have physically made that throw to Lee off his back foot or gotten that ball through traffic to McCloud. His arm talent is insane. There are glimpses of greatnesses. He has to get more consistent but it is pretty obvious why the football community was so high on him.

One more thing to add is teams are trying to bring pressure up front when in press as well. They don’t want to give the receivers time to break free and the QB the time to hold the ball until they are. You are trying to make the QB get it out instantly while taking away those quick route concepts (quick slants, screens, etc..).
-
Sure, press man won’t allow the receivers to get a free release. You are controlling the WR right from the snap so it disrupts a rythym passing game because in theory it takes the receiver a different amount of time to get to that spot. It makes it extremely difficult to throw bubble screens, hitches and especially slants. Peterman’s strength is that he delivers the ball on time (primarily on those types of throws). If a team is playing 7 yards off the LOS and the receivers get a free release they get to those spots on time. That won’t be the case if you are pressing on the outside. If Peterman proves that he can consistently make throws like the TD throw to Benjamin he can keep teams honest. That is how you can beat it. If you beat the press off the line you can make plays over the top. You can make some big plays. It is crucial that the receivers can consistently beat that jam to make that happen. Does that make sense? I’m not sure if you are trolling or not? The Chiefs did exactly that with Mahomes. He moved up to 2 on the depth chart and then when they felt he was ready they moved on from Alex Smith (who is pretty good). I am in no way saying that Allen has to start (although it is possible IMO). They have to make a decision between Peterman and McCarron soon so that Allen is playing behind NFL OL & with NFL receivers. It is entirely possible that none of the OL or pass catchers that he played with Thursday make the roster. If you want to work on his base (which is probably his biggest flaw) you aren’t going to be able to do it when he is under constant pressure. The first step in his development, just like Mahomes, was getting his feet wet. He passed that test. The next step in his development is working on his flaws.

Adam Schein: Josh Allen is the next Carson Wentz

Also, is there a probationary period? This troll joined yesterday and is already being an idiot. There’s no reason to let this guy drag down the board. . -

I heard some pre-draft talk and I can’t remember who it was being interviewed. It was a GM I think. They asked “why do fans like Mason Rudolph more than football people?” The answer was “because we know football.” They then asked “why do football people like Josh Allen better than fans?” The answer “because we know football.” FWIW, the Steelers were enameled with Allen coming out. I can’t speak for anyone else but they wanted to come up if it was feasible because they think he’s going to be a star. They have done a pretty good job drafting. -

Adam Schein aka Kirby Jackson -
He played primarily behind the 3rd OL. They have 15 linemen in camp I think (or around that). The 3rd string is guys like Redmond, Boettger and de Beer. The 2nd string is Newhouse, Bodine, Teller and co. They will likely keep 8 OL IMO. With that being said, it is almost certain that none of the guys on the 3rd string will be in the NFL.
-
There has never, ever, ever been a guy that was taken with a top 10 pick (and 2 2nds) that a team isn’t moving into the lineup. It has literally never happened and isn’t happening here. His development is independent of them. Alex Smith was an MVP candidate for much of last year and is in Washington now. That’s the way it works. You ALWAYS play your guy. As soon as Allen is ready we are going to see him. FWIW, I had an interesting conversation with my brother today who was a college QB and a high school OC. He said that the main reason that Allen has to move up the depth chart now is so that you can develop his flaws. Allen playing behind a sieve of an OL is never going to give him a chance to work on his footwork or his progressions. Every play is a broken play. Yesterday looked like Allen at Wyoming. He was infinitely more talented than the guys around him and had to play playground football. That isn’t what the Bills need to see to accurately evaluate him. That is the biggest task. The investment that they made in him dictates that he will be given the job at some point. They need to do their part to make sure that he is ready for that point.

I’d bet my life that he isn’t reporting without a guarantee that he won’t be tagged.
