  1. I am a bit memory challenged these days...but what "incident" are they referring to, in ragards to Pollard and Reed?
  2. I heard a "startistic" last night on the ESPN lasrt night about huge NFL contracts. I wish I could remember who said it, but they claimed that only about 33% of $100+million contracts singed in the NFL over the last 15 years actually are seen all the way through...meanig (to me) signing a monster deal doesn't really mean so much in the NFL...the only relevant number, as far as players should be concerned, is the guaranteed dollars. To me, it would seem there would come a point where guys in situations like Flacco was in this off-season would realize, that huge contract you just signed is going to kill your team, and, in the long run...you aren't going to really get all that money. Not blaming Flacco, just using him as an example. Flacco is getting a nice paycheck, but his team could be significantly worse next season...I know, money talks.
  3. Why do you think he wanted out? Is that a hunch? He has some relatives that come to watch the games on occaision at the bar I go for Bills games...my impression was that he loved Buffalo. I think, more likely, he sat around waiting for the Bills to call...when the call never came, he started seeing/hearing his name near the top of most every "best free agents" list, and saw his asking price going up by the day.
  4. I am no Travaris Jackson fan-boy, believe me....but you shouldn't take your disappointment over losing Fitz out on Travaris Jackson. Truth is, Fitz and T Jackson are probably not a lot different...other than the amount of money they were set to make. If Fitz had the same contract, or something comparable to what Jackson is making, he would likely still be a Buffalo Bill. But, he was going to cost considerably more, and his play simply did not warrant his pay. Sorry Mango...your argument is ridiculous. Most of us here have a lot of experience watching terrible QB play. I think Bills fans gave Fitz a pretty fair shot...he was a "whipping boy" cuz he wasn't very good, most of the time (and was getting worse)..that is what happens. I think everyone likes Fitzpatrick personally....but, eventually, you have to win. I like Fitz more than any QB we have had since Bledsoe (not saying much I know), simply because he wasn't afraid to throw the balls, and take a chance or two....honestly, I think FItz had a very fair shot with the team and the fans. More so than the guys before him. He had a coach completely committed to him...was never benched for poor performance, even when it was easily warranted. Like the guy, honest I do, but he has only himself to blame for what happened today...and I bet he realizes that...he is not dumb.
  5. Well...hmm...this is tough. No Fitz, no Chris Kelsay, no Tyler Thigpen....oh yeah, we still got Aaron Williams, and Aaron Corp is waiting in the wings!
  6. I am glad the Bills made this move today...but I still like Fitz. Nice parting interview from GR: http://www.wgr550.com/Fitzpatrick-says-farewell-to-Buffalo/15781381
  7. Every time you think you can officially write them off, they have a good game...really good game tonight. Enroth has looked really sharp his last two starts. Assuming the Sabres are not writing the season off yet, they should start giving Enroth more pt...Miller has been very good as well...it is going to be a sprint. Last time they made a "hero" run to the playoffs, Miller played lights out, but was drained once the playoffs came, and they got bounced very quickly. Miller is great, but he does go through "tired" stretches. Take advantage of the fact that you have two guys playing well at the same time...don't wear out Miller.
  8. Ideal NFL offseason? Watching the Celtics hoist up #18, and the Sabres getting #1. Looks like another less than ideal off-season for me...
  9. There had to be a reason Travaris Jackson re-signed with the Bills without even sniffing around other teams...he is going to be our starter opening week.
  10. LB James Anderson cut by the Panthers...after signing a 5 year extension in 2011. WR Kevin Walter cut by the Texans.
  11. Now, this thread will spiral into 3 pages of how awful James Walker is, until Levitre signs with another team...and it will be forgotten... Either way, I am very disappoineted the Bills didn't get Levitre re-signed.
  12. Okay..other than the fact that it is a recorded conversation that was leaked...there really isn't anything earth-shattering here... if you are embarassed by Buddy Nix, just go back and listen to some of his segments on GR. This is just "Buddy being Buddy". The only thing revealing is that, should Fitzpatrick be back next season, it will be hard for the Bills to sell Fitz as "their guy", after this....
  13. I dunno...Florence was pretty awful his last year in Buffalo...of coures, I can't necessarily put all the blame on him...but he isn't going to get better...for Williams there is still an outside chance of that happening.
  14. Hank Williams Sr....one of the very greatest from any era....
  15. That is a whole other debate...
  16. Adam's "money shot" was possibly the most shocking thing I have seen on tv (non-porn) in a long long time...not so much the concept of the money shot, but the graphic aspect of it...I really wasn't ready for that...HBO and Showtime (Showtime usually gravitates toward the needlessly gross) always try to push the envelope, but that was pushing it pretty far. It raised the price of postage you might say....
  17. Love Bob Wills birdog...love Western Swing...if you really dig that stuff, check out Spade Cooley. It has been said, had he not murdered his wife, he would likely be carrying the "father of Western Swing" moniker that Wills holds...both were great. Asleep At the Wheel is one of the best times you can ever have at a live show...Ray Benson is the constant, but he has an amazing knack for finding new people for the lineup.... Finding something I love, prior to 1960 is harder than finding somethign current, becasue there is so much great stuff prior to the 60's... Bill Haley... but I think Little Richard may have been one of the most outrageous (and outrageously talented) and trail blazing acts to come out of the time...imagine your folks hearing you listen to this, back in Tonawanda or Lacakawana back in 1956: "The Girl Can't Help It" 1956; If it ain't Chuck it ain't !@#$!
  18. I won't be disappointed...the only way is up at this point...you have to lower your hopes and expectations, and then you won't be disappointed.... Your point about offensive free agents vs defensive free agents is well taken. You might argue, traditionally (at least during this last miserable decade plus of Bills football) the Bills have tried to build the foundation of their offense through the draft, while using FA to tweak the defense. Neither approach has been very successful....but not being able to find a QB for the last decade certainly has to factor in their inabiltiy to lure offensive talent. That said, while I am mostly puzzled by the off-season moves so far (Marrone, letting Nelson and Levitre go) I am also not ready to come to jump to any conclusion about what the immediate future holds for this team. So far, Marrone feels wrong, but I really have no idea...it could be a tremendous hire. Saying goodbye to Nelson and Levitre (especially Levitre) doesn't feel right either, but lets see how they replace them. Truth is, we are very early in the pre-season...if you choose to believe the Bills/Russ Brandon (nobody would blame you if you don't, or can't) this is the beginning of a new era of the way the Bills conduct themselves....take it with a grain of salt, because we have heard this stuff before. The extension of Whaley, and presumed immenent departure of Nix certainly indicate that something different might happen...but will it just be more of the same?
  19. The thing I did like about tonights' broadcast, being on national tv and all (as much as being on NBC Sports can mean) the dressing down they took from the commentators between periods. Milbury (a douche I realize) could hardly contain his disdain for the Sabres and their embarrassing performance. This team has tried to play more physically tough (thanks primarily to Steve Ott...the only guy who seems to be playing like he gives a **** night in night out), but they are still mental midgets...it happens pretty much the same every game...give up an early goal, crawl into a shell...if they aren't embarrassed, they should be.
  20. I think Boldin is one of the most underrated offensive players in the NFL, over the last 10-15 years...there were whispers that he was "done" going into last season, but he had a terrific year, and a great playoff. Who knows, it may have been heat of the moment, but right after the Super Bowl (aware that he may be cut because of his salary) Boldin is on record as saying if the Ravens cut him, he will retire. If he were to back off that threat, I don't see the Bills (with their QB situation) being at the top of a list of suitors that is sure to have four or five teams interested.
  21. Yes, there isn't enough idiocy going around in sports today...so very refreshing! What better way to bring to light the pompousness of a pompous player, by being more pompous You know, for such a douche (and believe me, I think Bayless is a douche), Bayless has had a pretty long, notable career being a douche. He has to do very little to maintiain his status in this arena...doesn't have to go to training camp, or anything like that. And, I would guess he is pretty well paid to be a douche. One can turn a career as a douche into a lifelong career...how long has Sherman got to be a great (he says) football player?
  22. I can't say I pay a ton of attention to the Seahawks...but my impression of Richard Sherman, after one month of an off-season is that he is just another big-mouth jerk...talented, no doubt, but a jerk...I don't like jerks...Bayless old school jerk...Richard Sherman, welcome to the club. Now, when I watch the Seahawks, I will be rooting for him to get toasted!
  23. Not sure what the context is for Shermans' comments, but judging from the script on the bottom, I am guessing there was some pho' argument about whether Revis is still the "best corner in the leauge", Steven A says, "no, its' Richard Sherman", while Skip says it is still "Revis Island"...then they bring on Sherman to state his case... no doubt Sherman is talented, but, yeah, I think he sounded like an idiot. His immaturity speaks volumes...he has been picking arguments with people all off season...honestly, I am as tired of "self-promoting entertainers" who happen to be athletes, as much as I am douchey sports-writers. And, not that it means anything, but Shermans' point that he is "better at life" than Bayless is debatable...I will bet Bayless is being payed to write and espouse his dochey opinions long after Sherman has taken his final snap in the NFL. He went to Stanford....he is an all-Pro...big whip! He obviously didin't go to Stanford based solely on his intellect...and NFL history is littered with guys who start out promising, only to fade away after a few injuries or off the field incidents...
  24. Bayless is a douche...but I hate to disagree...Richard Sherman is a bigger douche. Did he say that Skip Bayless was "creetinden"? Is there some back-story to this? Bayless is correct, at least for me, when he tells Sherman that his words are speaking much louder than the his stats... all I really know of Sherman is that he has a very high opinion of himself...and seems incredibly insecure. I happen to think Steven A is pretty good...his delivery is a little grating, I admit, but I normally agree with him.
