I like Leodis and would like to see him back...still wish I would here that they were working on re-signing Levitre.

Valerie Harper diagnosed with terminal brain cancer....

I am 48...I thought 40 was the new 60! My knees tell me that every morning... -
Not to diminish what happened to Everett, but Reggie Brown of the Lions suffered a pretty severe injury on the field, back in the late 90's...they had to administer CPR on him. Apparently, too, Drew Bledsoes' injury against the Jets was fairly serious too...and then there was Chuck Hughes who died, on the field, in the early 70's. He died of a heart attack. His number was retired by the Lions... I also seem to remember a guy (maybe played for the Redskins) in the 70's who died of a heart attack right after a game, in the locker room...IIRC he returned a kick for a TD in the final minutes of the game...and then just 2 or 3 years ago, a 49ers linemen (can't remember his name..James Herrion maybe?) died in the locker room after a pre-season game against the Broncos. Seems like the size of some of theses guys is as big a threat to their lives as nasty hits.

I could see him ending up in Arizona.

Assuming that Palmer were to become available, what makes anyone think he would play for the Bills? Remember he forced his way out of Cincinnati and was prepared to retire if his only option was to play for the Bengals. If you recall he was "tired of losing" with the Bengals. Now, I realize, the Bills aren't the Bengals (Bengals have actually been more successful while Palmer has been in the leauge), but if he becomes a free agent, I seriously doubt he would be lookig to play for the Bills. Given the freedom of choice, he would likely chose to play for a "winning" franchise, or choose the retirement option again. Sorry... I happen to think he would be a better option than Fitz/Jackson, but not that much better... but still not a long term answer. He would also command a high salary...

Regulation wins would be nice (especially for inter-confernce games), but I will take 7 pts in 4 games over 2pts in 8 games every time. I think they have been playing a lot better during this "point streak." Hockey is a weird game, kind of flukey. One team rarely dominates from begining to end..it is a game of ebbs and flows, and the team that capitalizes when the flow is coming their way, can win. There is always a certain amount of luck involved. Honeslty, I think the Kaleta hit on Richards the other night kind of cost the Sabres that game...thought they were playing really well up to that point, but in addition to giving the Rangeres a two man advantage, it seemed to wake them up. While it hasn't been perfect, I think the Sabres have played much better in their own end of the ice. And, guys like Gerbe and Ennis are starting to find their game....hell, even Jochen Hect and Drew Stafford scored a goal this weekend! I am expecting the Sabres to play much better the rest of the season...they aren't likely to win the cup (might just miss out on the playoffs, again) but I don't think they are quite as awful as they looked the first 15 games of the season. At the very least, they have been watchable again.

Yes...the scene with the hitchiker was really great.... my favorite scene from the show, all-time (I think) was the one with the "businessman zombie" marching across a field, as Shane took a slight notice from the car window...nice framing for the begining and end of the show. The scene last night was a nice, reminder of the abyss that these people exist in. Honeslty, the writing was a notch above what I have come to expect from the show at this point..Rick recognizing the insanity of Morgan (guy was great on this episode) as the direction he is heading in. Big thumbs up for me...I was losing faith in the writing. Didn't notice who wrote this one, but will be curious to see if they write some more memoralble ones. This was sort of a "bottle episode" that took us on an excursion (other than a few verbal references) from the on-going story line...it was kind of refreshing.

Agreed...one of the better episodes in the shows' history.

Maybe she could entertain the team with "Salty Dog" or the "The Ballad of Jed Clampett" on that banjo...after she misses a kick!

I am sorry if somebody already pointed this out, I read most of the thread, but didn't see this point made...and, honeslty, the one I think Coch K was making.... It isn't so much the damage that could be done from injury during a jubulant celebration that he is worried about...his concern seemed to be more about fans getting in the face of opposing players/coaches, and the possiblity of an incedent occurring between fans and coaches/players....emotions, no doubt, are often at their rawest right after a loss...I think Coach K is right on...and I am by no means a Duke fan...what he is saying just makes sense. But, hey, I think the NFL and other pro leauges are crazy for madating certain accessabiltiy to media right after games...it is just asking for trouble that makes everyone look bad.

All that fretting for nothing! My "friend" got another job....she didn't even show up for her interview, or let them know ahead of time. So relieved....thanks for all your input gents! This really gave me a reason to pause, and think a bit more, the next time somebody asks me if I they can use me as a reference. I will think more about the "worst case scenario" before so readily saying "yes". That old country song, "She's someone else's problem..." keeps running through my head.... DC that is a good point. I worked with this girl 3 years ago..shw is about 37 or so....not sure how much people change at the core, at that point...but their attitude toward work, and how much they value having a job can change. Your point is well taken... I have heard you are nowhere near the idiot you used top be!
-
Yes, personal reference....just got t work, no word yet...but her interview isn't until 2pm (another hour)...not sure if she is getttnig an interview because she used me as a reference, or if that is incidental...I am not privy, in my current position to that kind of info...as far as the higher-ups know, I don't even know she applied, unless she told me...and she didn't do that. I suspect they will call me late today, or tomorrow. I just got to work about an hour ago...nothing changed. Thanks all for your advice....sometimes just helps to get it all out on "paper" and here what common sense has to say. It seems like I never get too old to avoid uncomfortable situations like this! It has been a while since I had a panic attack!

No, she has applied for a numerous jobs at the University...she is just getting an intreview for this one. Yes, you are right. Absolutely... thanks.
-
I am not close to the decision maker in this instance. And, being as tight on policies and procedures as a University can be, "sidebar conversations" are strictly prohibited. God, I hate this day!

Chef...in all seriousness (your smiley throws me)...are you being serious? I know we butt heads from time to time, but I respect your opinion, especially on matters like this....I know you have experience. Have you ever been in the position of calling to check someones' personal refereces? I have, dozens of times, and on a few occasions, the person listed as a personal reference has given me negative info. I can say, at least in the situations I dealt with, it did play a factor in them not getting a job. What you are saying is my first instinct...but, it is already at the point where this person is one of three being interviewed.
-
All good advice....I just wish I had a little more time to deal with this...

Yes... a moral dilema. I have the advantage (or disadvantage), of knowing the job she did for me, and what will be required of her at the job she is applying for. If she had told me she was applying for this job (she didn't give me a "heads up") I would have been up-front with her that I didn't think it was a great job for her...but she is being interviewed at 2pm today...and the thing that makes it worse, it is more a personality thing than an ability thing. When I say we are "frineds" I don't mean that I hang out with her socially (though we do have a few mutual friends), but at our previous job together I probably had more in common with her than anyone else..you know, music taste, books, etc...

This is a personal reference. She is actually very attractive..looks a bit like Zooey Daschenell.

I know you are not addressing me with this one...but IMO, MASH always maintained a high quality of story telling, so I would never say it was not worth watching...but at some point (sorry, it is too long ago for me to pin-point which season), as the cast changed, the show kind of transformed from being a top-notch comedy/drama with a liberal POV, to a drama/comedy with a liberal POV. I am liberal, so I don't have an issue with the politics of the show, but the comedy (or maybe more accuarately the "tone" of the comedy) on the show changed drastically. As time went on, it emphasised the drama over comedy. It was still a really good show (especially compared to other things on at the time), but different. The replacement characters (BJ Honeycutt, Charles Winchester, Sherman Potter) were all good, but they were much more nuanced than the characters they replaced, so the tone of the show changed. Not to say that none of them were great characters (I never cared much for Honeycutt, but Charles and Col Potter were great), just so dramatically different.

I know some of you who puruse this board are managers, or have been managers. I am in a little bit of a 'sticky wickett'...in a previous life, I was an office manager in an insurance office at a universlty. I left that job to take a job out in the "real world" for about a year and a half...that company folded, so I ended up back at the university, in a completely different, non-management job. This past December, a girl who used to work for me asked if she could use me for a job reference. I had always considered her a friend, and had no reservations giving her my blessing. She was trying to get a job back at the university. Fast forward three months, and I have come to find out that the girl has applied for a job in the very same area that I work now. She didn't tell me this, I just saw her name on a list of three folks being interviewed for an opening we have. My dilema: this girl is really smart, and can be great to work with..but I have also seen a much darker side to her, and the way she works with others. She is definitely somebody who works better on her own...she had frequent conflicts with co-workers in our past job (not always her fault, granted, but she also knows how to "push buttons")....I am really conflicted, because while I want to help her get a job, I really don't want to work with her at my job again. Does this make me a ****ty person? I am mindful too, if I give her a good reference, she gets hired, and has the same issues again, it makes me look bad. I have given out plenty of references over the years, without hesitation...but I have my reservations about this one. I have no doubt that she could handle the work part of the job she is applying for, but knowing how my current place works, I think she would be a really bad match. This job relies heavily on working with others, and people aren't always super courteous, so you have to have a thick skin...not sure if she fills that part of it. I have a feeling they will be asking me for a reference in the next day or two...what would you do? How frank would you be? The university trains their managers well, in getting negative info, if it exists, without crossing any lines. Sorry for the long post...brevity is never my strength...

Yes, the pacing of the series, has been rough since the first season ended....haven't they gone through numerous staff writing changes as well?
