RIP. Hate the Lakers, but hard not to be impressed by this guys track record... 32 years as the owner, 16 finals appearences, 10 championships. I am not sure, but I would guess there hasn't been another pro-sports franchise to enjoy that kind of success...certainly not in my lifetime. That is consistency. I can only hope that his son continues to avoid his footsteps! To Jerry Buss!

He may have graham cracker knees...but it hasn't really affected his production one iota.

Jeez...I hadn't heard that. Was just reading something that mentioned that she was a participant (contestant?) on Dr Drew's "Celebrity Rehab"...that seems to be a kiss of death. Different topic for another thread, but Dr Drew should have his liscence taken away.... P.O.S Roger Clemens releases a statement saying "The few times we met her and her manager, they were very nice. I had heard she was trying to get her life back together...we are saddened by the news". Yes, she obviously was in a healthy state of mind...

Yeah, you (and DR D) are probably right..its' Ruben...he just looks smaller than I would expect from an O-linemen....guess he is one of the guys taking care of himself, post football. -
Yes...she was one of a handful of belly-button baring female singers that came out in the wake of Shania Twains' massive popularity. I worked a bit in the country music field during those years, and had the opportunity to meet her...she was very easy on the eyes, but I was never a big fan of her music. Just seems that she was troubled all her life, and "winning" her 15 minutes of fame in the Nashvile meat grinder was probably the worst thing for her...she developed a bit of a drug and alcohol problem, her label dropped her because of her erratic behavior...she had to have a legal fight with her mother for custody of her kids... and, if you recall, she was reported to have had an ongoing affair with Roger Clemens that was started when she was 15...Clemens met her in a karaoke bar. She just seemed destined for disaster...just in the last few weeks, after the "suicide" of her fiance, she had to come out to deny allegations that she was involved with his death. Coroners' will not rule his death a suicide...at least not yet. There was a shadow of suspicion on her...friends saying she was livid to find out that he was having an affair...what a mess. The funny thing is, when the dust settles, she will probably be canonized by Nashville, and her name will be much bigger than her music warrants... as Bobby Bare once sang "Nashville is rough on the living, but speaks so well of her dead"

Apparently, one time "country music" rising star MIndy McCready has committed suicide. Not sure if anyone has followed her long, troubled saga...but whatever the truths are, a sad story all the way around. http://www.theboot.com/2013/02/17/mindy-mccready-dead-dies?icid=maing-grid7|main5|dl1|sec1_lnk3%26pLid%3D271812

This is key....and where they are missing Paul Gaustad. I know it has been pointed out before...but their inability to win face-offs leaves them in the vulnerable position of having to chase after the puck most of the time...when you are always chasing, it is quite a bit more difficult to dictate play. I think the Sabres played about as well as they can today....the Pens are just that much better...the speed and intensity of this game was through the roof, particularly for an early regular season game. If you didn't see the logo on the ice, I would have sworn this game was in Pittsburgh, with the crowd reaction.
-
I'm in....you know its' gonna happen!

My god...the second period of this game, tonight, may have been the Sabres worst 20 minutes of hockey, all season...which is saying something. Miller has been lights-out fantastic. I know I get down on him at times (when he is cold, he is freezing), but the Bruins should have scored 5 or 6 goals in that period...this is what you call "stealing" a game. I freaked out a little, between periods, in the shoutbox.... seems like every time I write them off, they do something to lure me back in... early (12pm) game on NBC Sunday against Pittsburgh. Back to back wins against quality opponents will help me sleep a little better...

Yes, sorry, meant Avalanche. I will admit, I have not seen a lot of him (O'Reilly), but most of the assessments I have read/heard are that he is a pretty physical player (not dirty) and a tremendous locker room/on-ice leader. Perhaps the word "tough" was wrong...but if he is anywhere near the player Drury was (before he checked out on us), I am all in. I think the Sabres have some talented players, and they have some "tough" players...but they don't have a lot of guys who are both. It seems like ages since we have had a good "defensive forward". When you see them play the Bruins, the difference between the teams is night and day different. You'll likely see it tonight...assuming Lindy hasn't solved their problems on the off-day!

You know, at first I thought it was Ruben...but that guy looks too small. Haven't seen him since his playing days...has he gotten smaller...some of those old O-linemen do...not Wolford (that is him on the end). -

Tarvaris Jackson re-signs with Bills
Buftex replied to scurdog1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't claim to have any expertise on this years QB draft class, but, depending on who you listen to, there is not a "franchise QB" (or not more than one) in this years draft. Personally, I would prefer a year of Fitz/Jackson trying to game manage the Bills to a winning record for a season, than picking a QB in the first round, just to appease fans, and to be able to say we have a "franchise QB"...just to find out, in another 3 years that we still need a QB. We went through that with Losman already... All I can think is that Jackson must have heard some positive stuff from the new coaches. There were a few teams rumored to be interested in him...if he didn't feel like had a real shot, I can't imagine his experience in Buffalo last season was enough to make him want to stick around for more. -
Yes, Kane would be great, but I don't think he is out of Chicago any time soon. O'Reilly is available, and the Avs are pursuing a trade. It would be a major change on the face of the team (Sabres would likely have to part with one of their "core" players) and provide them with a tough, talented player, who, by all accounts, is a "natural born leader".

On the social/politcal angle...listen to this song Merle Haggard recorded in 1965...Capitol Records wouldn't release it, until 1972. Hag is one of my all-time favorite artists, any genre.
-
jboyst, I actually think their are a lot of really good singers in the country genre (real country and Nashville pop country) just that the songs normally suck, and like modern R-n'B, they just overdo the vocal pyro-technics and gymnastics...Sara Evans comes to mind. She has a fantastic country voice, but her albums/singles get worse with each release...to the point that you forget the lady (besides being gorgeous) can sing...her first two albums are great Nashville country....now she this 40-ish something woman is trying to compete with Taylor Swift, using autotuing and electronic flourishes. What a mess...a shame, cuz I really thought was going to have a long, respectable career. Can't recommend Kelly Willis enough, if you like a great female country singer...she did the Nashville-country thing in the late 80's, early 90's...now she just does what she wants:
-
All very true...but you are talking about a relatively few "big mouth" artists...many of them "old used to be" stars. There have been a fair number of rock artists (mostly metal dudes) who have taken to preaching about Obama destroying America...kind of a counter to the Springsteen and Bonos' of the genre. I know there are a lot of conservatives who love Springsteen...they deal with it. You can't really always let politics interefere where they are not relevant. Admittedly, whatever your political persuasion might be, Big & Rich are awful...what did you expect? Honestly, I am a lefty, love "real" country music, and I know loads of people just like me. The artists that we like aren't the ones who are selling boat loads of records...just the ones that make great records...very excited, just found out tonight one of my all-time favorites (a closet lefty-commie pinko too!) Emmylou Harris is playing at the record store I work at, later in March. Also rumor that fellow lefty Willie Nelson will join her...

BREAKING NEWS: Bills release Terrence McGee

When the Bills played the Saints in San Antonio, after Katrina, I was sitting a row or two back from the sideline, right where McGee almost completed one of the greatest returns in Bills history...came up just a yard or two short. -
