What do you think about the prospect of the Sabres making a trade with the Oilers for Ryan O'Reilly? The Sabres seem to be one of about 4 teams in the running. He would certainly address the issue the Sabres have had (for ages now!) of a quality center, and one with some toughness. Assuming they didn't make Ennis part of the trade (one of the many rumours...I like Ennis), they could put him back on the wing... he is okay at center, but liked him better as a winger. I realize, O'Reilly is still young, and it is a little bit of a gamble...but I would trade Tyler Myers for him in a heartbeat. In fact, there are only probably 3 or 4 guys I wouldn't trade for him...Vanek, Miller, Grigorenko, and maybe Folgno. Wouldn't be happy to see Ennis go, but it might be worth it...

Happy birthday Mr Kelly...and Drew Bledsoe as well!

Well... that may be true for some artists, but not all. Tim McGraw and Faith Hill (I am not a fan of either) are very prominent country artists who are also very committed Democrats. Both big Obama supporters. McGraw, in fact, at one time, was rumored to be interested in running for office in Mississippi. You don't hear them speak of politics very often because they have very lucrative careers going, and they know (see the Dixie Chicks fiasco a few years ago) it would kill their careers. So, they remain a-poltical in their music. I prefer to keep it that way. I think you are making a pretty broad generalization here...do Hank Williams Jr and Toby Keith represent all of country music? Using that logic, does Ted Nugent represent all of rock -n'roll?

Since we are giving out random opinions, I have probably seen about 10 episodes of "It's Always Sunny...." I don't think I laughed once....I hated it. "Louie" however is destination tv for me....it is one of the darkest, most depressing comedies ever...but I love it! Thumbs up on "Arrested Development" as well... but nothing (comedy wise) beats "Larry Sanders"!

Well, if things continue the way they are, and no change is made next year (HC and possibly GM) I will be a little more concerned about Pegula. But, as it stands right now, I am still thinking Pegula is going to be a good owner for us. He can only do so much (like fire the coach and/or GM)... many of us may have come to a conclusion that it just isn't ever going to work with Ruff/Reiger, but Pegula is still a relatively new owner. Deservedly, or not, Ruff was a "made man" when Pegula took over, and the team had achieved a certain level of success under him...now, two seasons removed, the further the way we get away from the Briere/Drury period, the more Pegula has to look at. If this team comes up short again (of a playoff spot..I know those aren't lofty expectations), I honestly don't see how Pegula couldn't make a change. Sabres fans have been very loyal (almost too loyal you might argue) as far as buying up tickets...and Pegula hasn't really spared any expense to try to do everything he can to make the experience of going to a game the best it can be...when he probably didn't have to. However, he isn't a coach, a player, or a team captain...just a fan who happens to own the team. btw- split season tickets from 1980-1987...oranges!

Yeah, I hear you...I have to be in the mood, but when I start watching, I normally like it.

Yeah... I think he knows, and anyone who listens to "real" country music, hell, even pukes like Blake Shelton know the differnce... the guys who record for the love of the music, rather than for the love of money are the ones who are doing "real" country. He doesn't just "associate himself with the legends"..they associate with him as well. jboyst...I think Maines is a great singer too... but there are plenty of others out there, who don't sell the volumes of records. My buddy Bruce Robison, and his wife Kelly Willis just put out a new album yesterday...here is a stream from the "No Depression" site...the whole album is fantastic (the kind of records that should be played on country radio, IMO), but if you listen to nothing else on it, just listen to track #4...I think Willis is one of the finest singers around. http://www.nodepress...sg_com_blogpost btw- Natalie Maines has a new rock album "Mother" (yup, the Pink Floyd song) coming out, I think, in June.

Agreed! Emmy is smoking hot. "Shameless" and "Nurse Jackie" are my two favorite Showtime series. "Californication" gets progressively worse with each season. Kind of like "Weeds" before it. All the Showtime series, IMO (including "Shameless") get a little too carried away with the "gross" factor...but I do like the two I mentioned. So far, in the new season of "Shameless" not really digging the Brazillian drug lord/Steve story...but the rest I like. We started watching "Girls', but just started losing interest during the first season. It is pretty self-indulgent. It is almost like a "Sex In the CIty" for the new millenium. I like Dunham okay (and I think she is oddly attractive), and find some elements of the show enjoyable, but, eh...don't really care that much. I work with enough spoiled, bratty 20-somethings, I don't want to see them on tv. My girlfriend lost interest, so we don't watch it any more, and I can live with that. When show I haven't seen mentioned, as far as comedies go, is "Veep" with Julia Louise Dreyfuss. Really funny.

No, only about 40 years for me...though I missed the majority of the 90's. I wasn't disagreeing with you.

roush is a little negative huh? For the record, his drum beat is starting to sink in...what a depressing game tonight..to think I stayed up late to watch it! I am such a sucker...glad Center Ice was only 59.99 this year!

I hear that said all the time, but I don't buy it. Post lock-out (the first one), when Ruff's teams have been at their best, they play a very wide-open style, and his "system" encourages a lot of gambling by the defense, in the offensive zone. It is no coincidence that the most success he has had as a head coach are when Hasek was here, and when Ryan Miller had MVP like seasons. The way people talk about Ruff, you would think the Sabres play the New Jersey Devils style of grinding, trap, hockey. I don't think he is as conservative as some label him.

Not sure what you are saying here. Is one better than the other?

Funny, while I can't really remember why anymore, I really disliked him as a player. I don't want to dump on him too hard...the first half of his coaching career in Buffalo was pretty great...

Yes...there has always been a "Texas Country" vs "Nashville Country" conflict. Dale, who admittedly is never going to sell records like Blake Shelton or any of those other pinheads, is probably the pureist "real country" artist out there right now...guy works his ass off, tours constantly just to get by. He lives here in Austin, has 3 regular weekly gigs (still fills the clubs, every time he plays, after nearly 20 years)....if he isn't in Austin, he is touring somewhere...in Europe at the moment. I implore anyone who likes his brand to keep an eye out for him in your town...he is a great live performer...hell of a good guy too. From his first album, "Nashville Rash" And, just in case you are interested, or curious, while Dale writes some great "novelty" songs, he can write a straight ahead honky-tonk song with the best of them.

Valentines Day flowers...any ladies out there?

Dinner on Thursday night...probably some live music on the weekend. -
Well, Ennis (5) and Hodgson (5) have been scoring and Sulzer (the "throw in" in the Kassin/Hodgson deal) has three goals already...not shabby for a blue-liner. Nobody (well, few) are going to score every game, but Foligno, Ennis and Stafford line have been creating some nice chances...

BREAKING: Bills release Nick Barnett
Buftex replied to SBUffalo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If Barnett and Wilson weren't the top two tacklers on the team, somebody else would have been..."leading tackler" is, maybe, one of the most mis-leading stats in pro football. Maybe they were the leading tacklers, cuz the offense knows they are the easiest to gain yards on? Still, wish both guys the best...two good dudes. -
Valentines Day flowers...any ladies out there?
Buftex replied to Buftex's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Yeah, that is what I gather... silly isn't it? I have seen it at different jobs over the years...the ladies can be pretty snary sometimes. My gf, for some reason, does not have many female friends... I think it gets her into trouble sometimes. But yeah, she loves the attention...and I love her...will order flowers tonight! No you are! The kind of comedy gold I was anticipating. -
Yes, the numbers don't tell a nice story...but we all know, this team is capable of going on extended winning streaks too. I seriously doubt, Lindy or no Lindy, that they keep up their current rate of futility. I wish I could remember all the hard numbers right now...but last weekend, on the Florida broadcast, they showed the standings from the 1994 season (the last time there was a 48 game season) after 12 games...the Cup winner that year (the Devils) were in 12th place in the east after 12 games...in fact, IIRC, 6 teams that would not have qualified for the playoffs after 12 games ended up in the playoffs. It is still way too early to write this season off...believe me, I understand the pessimism, it is hard to shake. Honestly, 21-13-1 doesn't sound impossible....but they do have to start turing it around sooner rather than later. Miller is playing great the last 3 games or so...they need to take advantage of that...his hot streaks don't last forever.
-
Yeah, it is easy to get caught up in the negativity about this team (I am as guilty as anyone), but I think they are playing markedly better the last few games...they still have woes on defense, no doubt, but they aren't getting rolled over like they were the last few weeks. When Miller is on, he is as good as anyone, and gives them a great chance to win any games. Thing with the Bruins is, their agitaters and tough guys are also their best players...they score goals...Sabres aren't there. What the Sabres sacrafice for toughness for guys like Ott, Scott and Kaleta, they sacrafice skill. That is what makes Boston so good.
