Sabres starting to come apart at the seams?
Buftex replied to Buftex's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Now your talking... -
That may be true...but I think you are underestimating Hassleback. I get that he is old, and that could very well hurt his performance, but, for the right price, it seems like he has something left in the tank. "Draft a kid and let him play" has possibly destroyed a few potential NFL careers. Depending on who you believe, there are no sure-fire franchise QB's in this draft...rushing them in when they are not ready is not always the wisest thing.
-
Of those teams, Arizona and Buffalo are his only real chances to start.
-
Hasselbeck didn't play so badly last year, in the limited action he saw. If the team had won a few more games early on, he may have stayed the starting QB. If you recall, they had a miserable time with their O-line, early on...5 starts...I would love this signing. http://www.nfl.com/p...078/careerstats

Sabres starting to come apart at the seams?
Buftex replied to Buftex's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Yeah...me too...and I will honeslty say, much as I like Ruff, I thought letting him go was the right move...and I fully expected the Sabres play to pick up a notch after he was gone. They have played, perhaps, two good games since then, and have been dreadful ohterwise. I am no fan of Mike Milbury, but the one refreshing thing about the games on the NBC Spors broadcasts has been the candid nature of their criticism of the Sabres this season (IIRC they have now carried 3 Sabres games, all awful efforts...once before Lindy was fired, and two since). These guys need to hear more of it. Last night, Milbury said, of Tyler Myers (paraphrasing) "People always go back to his 10 or 11 goals a season, or his rookie of the year..but that is 3 years ago...somebody needs to show this kid how to play hockey" I have to say, I have felt the same way about Myers...I think he is pretty awful most nights. That's not to say he can't be better, but he isn't really improving....he has a good night here or there, but still coughs the puck up regularly, makes poor passes. and, IMO just doesn't seem to have good instincts in spacing and the more physcial part of the game. The popular notion seems to be that everyone on the team is tradeable except Miller and Vanek, and maybe Pomminville. I like those three guys alright, but I would trade any of them, at this point (especially Miller or Pomminville) for somebody that has a future, and will be part of turing this disaster around. I never imagined the Sabres would be playing so poorly, this far into a season. At this point (and I never think like this with my teams) I am really hoping they don't go on one of their trademark "nobility runs" late in the season to squeek into the playoffs, or just barely miss. Sure, it would be much more fun to watch them...but this team, these players, never seem to learn from the past. I don't want to say they are lazy, or lack intensity, but that is the way it feels a lot of the time. Or, they just play like they are afraid to make mistakes, so they do nothing...guys avoiding contact like crazy, not following through on checks...icing the puck for no reason...this team looks like it is just going through the motions, more often than not. There are some guys who, I feel, give a good effort, but the results are just not there. I hate to say it, but it is that rare time when watching one of my teams is really seeming like more a chore than a pleasure...I never used to feel that way...and I have loads of experience rooting for less than stellar teams. If this is "hockey heaven..." Was referring to sniping at one another in the media. -
I will second that...AJ is a good guy. BTW- I have felt the same way as AJ a few times, but I never completely leave, just stay away from certain parts of the board...I think the negativity is overwhelming (and I have contributed I am sure) because our team, frankly, sucks...and it was so evident from week one this season....we didin't even get the fun 4-6 weeks.... and on top of that, there was a certain presidential election coming up, which never helps. We all came here because of our love of the Bills, but that is an unrequited love...and that can be pretty frustrating. Can't tell you how many times I have started a post, realized it was kind of mean, or personal, and either scraped it, or immediately deleted it. Just trying to stick to the OTW and football boards these days. Funny thing is, becasue the Bills have been so bad for so long, I don't have the patience to read about them as much...so I learn more from other posters here than I do from referencing articles on the front page.

Ryan Fitzpatrick - QB - Tennessee Titans
Buftex replied to MClem06's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I wasn't thinking about it with Fitz at all...but more in regards to the Broncos and Dumerville. If they had an agreement in principle, but had to waive him for some technical reason, could they just re-negotiate a free-agent deal with him, same terms, after he is let go? Just wondering the reason this doesn't ever really happen. The only instances I can think of players returning to the team that cut them are either mid-season signings, or next season. Would the Broncos be forbidden from re-negotiating a deal with Dumerville, before the coming season starts? Perhaps the guranteed bonus thing gets in the way? There are a lot of nuances to the salary cap I don't get... -
My guess would be, since the show is on life support right now, and ending, they already had these shows filmed, or written, anticipating the spin-off. They weren't going to waste them. Too bad. Sad to see a really good show hold on for too long. The first season, after Carrell left, had a few "decent" episodes, but was mostly bad. I watched, about the first 8 this seaon, and it was really terrible. I was surprised to see (though it means little) that Bryan Cranston directed a few of them. Ed Helms character was so funny when he was introduced as "anger-managed Andy"...but the character just morphed into one of the worst ever. I suppose they thought, based on "the Hangover" he could carry the show, like Carrell did...not even close.

So, Pat Kaleta was upset about being benched, after his suspension was over and he let the media know...leave it to Ryan Miller to put him in his place. I don't dislike Kaleta (at least he has some fire in his belly), but Miller is spot on. If you can hear Millers' comments, rather than read them, you can tell he is getting pretty frustrated...might he ask for a trade? http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-daddy/ryan-miller-patrick-kaleta-healthy-scratch-gripes-needs-030929826--nhl.html

I thought so too. On the other hand, has anyone been watching the "Mindy Project"...I have not seen them all, but what I have seen was pretty funny.
-
Huh...I stopped watching the show after the last (awful, IMO) Halloween episode. I just figured I would catch them in syndication at some point... I was under the impression that the Schrute spin-off was not going to happen. Although they kind of neutered the character, I would still give the spinoff a shot.

I thought the Morgan episode was excellent (particularly by Walking Dead standards), but the last two have just been "meh"...for me. Hate to say it...but I may stop watching when this season is over.

Ryan Fitzpatrick - QB - Tennessee Titans

I will ask this question here, cuz I am not sure where else to ask it, without starting a new thread... (I am not advocating this), but just supposing the Bills and Fitz had a change of heart...could they conceivably re-sign a player they cut? Would his previous contract then be null and void, or would the re-signing team (in this case the Bills) still be on the hook for that old contract? Is there a date set, after which a cut player could sign with his old team? -
Bills FO not the only ones that screw up! ELWAY (not)
Buftex replied to Buftex's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah, I am sure Kellto83TD is referring to me. Was at work when I heard this story, on the radio, framed as Elway/FO screwing up, not accounting for time differences...I wanted to find a link for it, and posted one, without reading it, assuming the radio story I heard was true...it appears it wasn't. I think everyone in the thread I started told me my take was wrong...fair enough....Kellyto83TD is starting another thread about it, I guess, cuz he wants an apology? Okay...sorry Kellyto83TD....now you can continue with your "Bills suck" cmpaign...as if we didn't already know that! -
Yeah, I agree, some shows just work better in rapid succession. "Boardwalk Empire" is much the same.

Awesome...laughing my ass-off moments later...maybe one for the pet peeve thread, but I loath presumtuous people. I hate presumptuous douche-bags! -
Both Vanek and Miller have contracts that expire next season...and their franchise appears to be bottoming out. Steve Johnson just re-signed a year ago... and his franchise is trying to climb out of the bottom...there is a difference.

Have I Mentioned Recently How Much I Hate Bicyclists?
Buftex replied to Chef Jim's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Nah....just give them a dirty look. I have seen too many instances of "road rage" between drivers and bicyclists here...to the point where people do dangerous things, just to make their point. I will admit, I am not that agressive. I am pretty cautious when it comes to driving around here...I sometimes think I am over-compensating for my girlfriend who is a hyper-agressive driver... I used to be a bike rider (for years) before it became such a hot button, almost political, issue. Like others have said, I don't hate bike riders, I just hate the ones that do stupid crap. This city bends over backwards to accomodate bicyclists, to the point where many of them act as if they have no responsibitly. Austin has gone bike lane crazy...while the bike lanes are narrow in some areas (some of the streets themeselves are too narrow to accomodate 4 lanes of car traffic comfortably, but they stil put bike lanes in), but it is not the case where I am driving to work. There is plenty of room...I sometimes feel like they are doing it, just to have a confrontation of some sort. I am not going to give them the satisfaction, but I will be happy to curse them out in the sanctity of my own car. -
Have I Mentioned Recently How Much I Hate Bicyclists?
Buftex replied to Chef Jim's topic in Off the Wall Archives
In Austin, we now have bike lanes on nearly every major street...but every morning, driving to work, it is inevitable that I am stuck behind a bike or two that refuses to ride in the bike lane...what's it gonna take? What's it gonna take!!!! -
NFL Network & ESPN Coverage is ANNOYING!
Buftex replied to MClem06's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Eh...its' just the way it is. Small market team isn't the issue, so much as rarely winning team...the two elements combined make the Bills irrelevant to the vast majority of NFL followers... What I found kind of interesting about most of the coverage the Bills have received since FA started is the fact that the Bills releasing Ryan Fitzpatrick was framed as being a "shocking" or "surprising". It just goes to show how little any of the national people really follow the day to day stuff with the Bills. I don't think anyone on TSW found the move all that surprising or shocking. Their attention to the Bills seems to be like that of somebody who plays Fantasy Football, but doesn't watch the actual games. -
