The "hype" grew because Edwards, for a few games at least, seemed to have all the things that Losman was lacking. Losman had more athletic talent, but always played like he had a bumble bee in his helmet... Edwards seemed to be a little cooler under pressure...somewhere along the way, though, Edwards game regressed...terrible coaching, bad o-line play seemed to bring out the worst in Edwards. It may have exaggerated or overstated over the years, but that hit that Edwards took in Arizona really did knock any further upside out of the kid. Well...that and Dick Jauron... Edwards had a tremendous pre-season during his rookie year, and there were some draft experts that felt that he was one of the real steals of the NFL draft that year...Losman was the starter, and was not playing well...when Losman went down, Edwards came in and was able to manage the offense, between the 20's very well...they still couldn't score enough in the red-zone...and the play-calling in those days was just atrocious...they were the ultimate "play not to lose" team under reward..low risk, low reward was the philosophy. Funny thing is, I don't remember a lot of "hype" for Edwards, so much as a realization that Losman was not good, and some wanted to see the Bills move on...there was a time, about 5-10 years ago, when Bills fans still rooted for the guys that were playing, to succeed...but that is so 2007!

Anyone's Wall acting squirrelly today?
Buftex replied to The Poojer's topic in Off the Wall Archives
For the last month or so, I have been issues with making posts...it will say "saving post" for what seems like an eternity...sometimes it doesn't save the post at all...very frustrating...I have a tendency to be kind of long winded...I now have to save every post, in case it doesn't save, and then paste what I saved, and try to post it again...I thought it was my computer, but I have the same issue with three different computers. -
Yeah, that was really well handled...and I honestly didn't see that kind of resolution coming at all. I don't think many in the group will react well, assuming that Rick tells them the truth about what she did, and how he handled it. I think many, just like many of the viewers, see Carols' actions as being an necessary evil in this world...how will Herschel react? Didn't Herschel tell Rick that his own kid shot that kid, for no reason? At least Carol had a reason. Didn't almost feel like Rick banished Carol from the group because he was taken aback by her audacity...like he felt threatened by her strength? The scene where they are in the house, talking to the hippy kids...Rick tells them they will come back to pick them up after they make their rounds...but Carol overrides him and tells them to go out and scavenge too... he looks kind of amused/shock by what she is telling them, kind of overriding him. Wonder how Darryl react...there seems to have been some implied on-going relationship between he and Carol...but now they seem to be implying something is brewing between he and Mishone. Confusing...I honestly thought that Rick and Mishone would develop some relationship... I have to believe that Carol is back at some point...beyond Rick & Daryl, she is the only character on the show from the beginning, who was given much of a back story. Anyways, don't want to jinx anything, but just when I was ready to give up on this show, it has been, by far, the most satisfying season so far.

Ya'll may think I'm crazy but I love this team, warts and all

I used to think the off-season was brutal here...but then the regular season happens and almost makes me long for those hot, summer days...nothing like going to TSW football forum, and seeing a thread like "HACKETT NEEDS TO GO!!!!", or "WHY IS STEVE JOHNSON STILL ON THIS TEAM?". -
Maybe he can join Kaletta down in Rochester!

Injury Report and How to Bend the Rules
Buftex replied to BringBackFergy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
On the GR pre-game show yesterday, JB said that Manuel was moving, running and throwing with no visible signs of pain, or discomfort..the cutting of Flynn makes me think "probable" is the way it is going to play out. -
The only play I really had an issue with, yesterday was the run by Freddie, up the middle, on 3rd & 7 as time was winding down. As I recall he got three yards...granted, the game was pretty much over at that point, but you have had Tuel slinging the ball all day...why stop on that down? The only way it is not a bad call is if Freddie winds up running it all the way in for a TD. It was kind of conceding the game, for me...all it did was run a ton of time off the clock and kill whatever tiny chance there was of scoring a TD, and, perhaps, recovering an on-side kick. Even if Fred had gotten the first down, it still runs the clock down. The other calls, I don't have a problem with...all could have worked, but didn't.

I meant "huge" in the sense that it will give us insight into where this team really is, mentally. In the past, they have played some "close but no cigar" games against good teams...but as the season wore on, those close games became replaced by blow-outs...Steelers are a team the Bills, you would think, should/could beat, but they will not be pushovers at home, and lots of Steeler pride in the mix. I think the Bills showing up, and, like you said, playing with toughness and heart is very important. My money is on that happening...rather than the back-sliding days of yesteryear! I agree, they need to start getting used to winning, instead of playing pretty well, but losing....but I really think this team is different than what we have had in the recent past. -

Agreed. The results are disappointing, granted, but this team feels a lot different than what we have seen in the last 12 years or so. I think the game this Sunday (in Pittsburgh) is huge, in terms of showing how far this team has come. We are all pissed when they lose...but we can narrow most of these losses down to 1-3 key mistakes per game...rather than them just not showing up. I loved the way the defense played yesterday...and I think Tuel is alright for a third string QB... I am anxious to see EJ behind center again...never thought the playoffs were a realistic possibility this year, I just want to see real progress, and I feel like I am. I feel pretty positive about this team. -
Yeah, that was a terrible call.

Gaughan: Tuel likely starter, 15 of 18 sacks on QB
Buftex replied to San Jose Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I used to love coming the the Bills wing of TSW, but it seems like the majority of the fans that post here, do so, primarily to trash players...many who are just starting out, or really don't have enough of a track record to come to any conclusive judgment of their long-term potential. I realize, this is, in large part, an understandable frustration with the constant state of mediocrity our beloved team seems to be stuck in. But, I really hate the way people trash some of these guys...they trash the Super Bowl era guys (when people do this, I just assume they are too young to have realized what they were watching), the crap on the rookies and second year guys...I understand why, sometimes, but I am really tired of it. I am not trying to embarrass anyone, or question their "fan-hood" (I can't believe I just wrote that), but I just can't stand that stuff, especially when it is so constant. The Bills just drafted a first round QB who played 4.5 games with mixed results (some good some bad), and it has already become common, with a vocal minority (or is it a majority?) that he is a bust... 3 weeks ago, Thad Lewis was the toast of the town...as anyone with a brain cell would understand, a guy like Lewis is, eventually, going to show some warts...but, no, he is already trash...this board had the biggest hard-on for Jeff Tuel in August, and now, after 1.25 quarters of rough QB play, he too is thrown on the scrap heap... I know fans are supposed to root, but do you root for the team and its' players to succeed, or fail miserably (cuz that is what it seems like most of the time here) just so you can say "I always said that guy sucked"? He certainly couldn't look worse than he did, with no reps with the first string for about 5 weeks. You ever have a day at your job where it gets' away from you? Does that mean you suck at your job? Or, did yo just have a bad day? Not predicting fantastic things for Tuel, if, indeed, he does start against the Chiefs, but l suspect he will be a mixed bag of some good things, and some bad things. We just have to hope the good is good enough to overcome the bad things, and we can get a win. It isn't completely unfathomable is it? Anyone remember when John Fourcade beat a geat Bills team, all those years ago, at Rich Stadium? -
Gaughan: Tuel likely starter, 15 of 18 sacks on QB
Buftex replied to San Jose Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I remember this well...and I am with you. We know Tuel doesn't have a great arm. We also know that Flynn has been remarkably unsuccessful at winning a starting job, twice, when the cards were stacked heavily in his favor. Tuel did not look good against the Browns, very true...but that doesn't necessarily mean he can't do anything well, with a little more time to prepare. -
I might have to disagree with this...Miller is great and all, but he isn't the first or second best goalie in franchise history...at least I don't think...I am sure there is some stat that will say I am wrong, but Donnie Edwards, Roger Crozier were pretty damn great goalies in their time too...Tom Barasso had his moments...I have always been partial to Bob Sauve...in some ways Sauve was like Miller...not stylistically, but in that they were/are both very streaky...Sauve had the advantage though, cuz he and Edwards, as a tandem were better than Miler/Enroth and Miller/Biron...but your larger point is taken...for about 2 years, Miller was one of the two or three best goalies in the game. To me, he has been good, great some nights, and awful some, since the President's cup season.

Yeah, wish I could get that.

Marquise Goodwin vs T.J. Graham - Fan Poll
Buftex replied to MClem06's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
First, who said the Bills have to choose one or the other? Both guys are on the squad, both guys will get chances. Goodwin has obviously had some big plays earlier in his career that Graham has, but Graham has shown signs of life. Staying healthy is an assett too...I believe, the Bengals game is the only game Goodwin has played, where he hasn't gotten hurt. It seems like there are some here who have been chomping at the bit to declare TJ a bust because he messed up their mock drafts in 2012 Everyone comes to the team with different skills...some guys need more time than others. There are so many factors, out of their control that impact their performance, inept QB being a part of that. -
Well...I see your point...but at least Jackson was a starter for a while...Flynn has been handed two starting jobs, and managed to play his way out of them before the pre-season was over... Ultimately, I can't wait to get EJ back, so he can get some playing time...but I still like the idea of Lewis starting a hell of a lot more than I like the idea of Flynn or Tuel. He is very raw, but he has shown the abiltiy to make some plays, and I like his fire. For the Bills to beat a team like the Cheifs, it is going to be a good all around effort from the offense, defense and special teams. If Lewis some of the mistakes he made last week (ie: not fumbling the ball), make a few of the nice throws he has made the last few weeks, the defense comes to play (the Chiefs offense is not the Saints offense), we have a fighters chance of winning this game.

Another truly creepy song...has nothing to do with the movie "Psycho", but the song is just eerie as hell...an ode to a serial killer! Excellent choices...been eyeing those re-issues up myself..but they are just not in the budget..CD's will have to do!

Marquise Goodwin vs T.J. Graham - Fan Poll
Buftex replied to MClem06's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I am sure it is the same with all fan bases, but as time passes, maybe the losses piling up, we seem to be as impatient as ever as a whole. Our undrafted, practice squad QB has an unexpectedly good game in a loss, and half the fan base is ready to annoint him the QB of the future, and declare the guy they drafted in the 1st round a "bust"...we draft a WR in the second round, playing with a crappy QB, playing in a position that doesn't really play to his strenghts, and we are ready to declare him a bust after one season...the aforementioned undrafted, practice squad QB who had that good game, with extended playing time, is being shown to have some imperfiections in his game...so he is a disaster now! But not as big of a disaster as the undrafted FA qb the team signed during the summer, who had a really good couple of pre-season games playing with 3rd, 4th and future FA's...you know the guy who was thrust into the starter role when the 1st round QB went down in a nationally televised game, and looked a little less than stellar...at that point, we hadn't seen the undrafted FA QB from the practice squad play, so we were sure that was the end of our season...but now, all the QB's have shown to suck... And it goes on and on and on and on.... Wait, what was the question? -
Marquise Goodwin vs T.J. Graham - Fan Poll
Buftex replied to MClem06's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Graham is showing flashes. This is kind of the normal progression for a wr in the NFL. He is in the middle of his second season. Goodwin, on the other hand, is showing to have good hands, great speed, right out of the gate..not a bad blocker either. However, he pretty much has been injured in every game he plays in thus far. I think we can use them both! -
