Adolescence and the pursuit of boobies

I think she was a really great actress...unfortunately, her politics obscure that for most people...and I understand that. Cat Ballou, Joy House, Barefoot In the Park, Klute...all great 60's fliks! Damn, haven't seen that in few years, and just posted, without re-viewing... the way I remember it, all the naughty bits were covered by letters...oh well...a good excuse to watch it...uh...later...I remember that being on a Saturday afternonn "Million Dollar Movie" when I was in grammer school...it almost made me late for the basketball game I was supposed to play in that afternoon... -
I kind of agree. With the NHL draft, even if the Sabres finish with the very worst record in the leauge, that is no guarantee they get the first pick in the draft...and most NHL prospects will take a good 2 years, if you are lucky, to really come into their own at the pro level. We have guys like Grigorenko who is all world in the minors, but can't seem to make the jump to the NHL. Some are already writing him off as a bust...was there a Sabres rookie, in recent memory who had more hoopla surrounding him?

Lets hope is more than just a long, drawn out (poorly choregrahed), battle with a gross zombie kill or two...then back to where we were. That has been the tendancy in the past... I am holding out hope though...the first string of three really good episodes in a long time...holding out hope for the season.

It is amazing that Thad Lewis struggled last week!

"Barbarella" Jane Fonda was a stone cold fox back then...the opening sequence of that movie is etched in my mind forever! -
I could be wrong, or not remembering this correctly, but didn' the doctor who was quaranteened and helping patients over there, say something to someone, at some point, like "do you think it is time to tell them?" Implying that this really isn't a flu outbreak. That was cool...but this will be the true test for me, as to whether this show has truly picked up its' game, after 3 solid episodes...it seems, in the past, every time they have a "stunning" end like that, it always fizzles out into nothing...

They were trying to sell youth, and selling fans on the idea that "even without Drury & Briere" this is still a great team..look, we have Thomas Vanek! Paul Gaustadt! Drew Stafford! Jason Pomminville! The future looked bright...but it just never panned out. People get very emotional about sports, and I think Darcy has been almost as guilty of that as fans tend to be. He falls in love with the guys he picks, and can't even imagine them not panning out. I would argue Vanek came the closest to living up to his advance billing, though there always something a little disappointing about him too. Seemed like whenever he would get on a hot streak, he would, inevitably, miss games for some mysterious "upper" or "lower" body injury, and then lose his momentum. Just a bad couple of seasons we are experiencing. I really wish there was a fresh set of eyes in charge of re-shaping the franchise.

Can't really add anything to all the stuff writte about Lou Reed in the last few days...one of the most influential pop artists of the last 40 years or so, though not many really know that much about him. When I moved away from Bufflao in 1988, I got a job at Tower Records in Mahatten. I wasn't on the job for more than an hour or two, when I had my first "celebrity customer" encoutner. It was Lou Reed. It wasn't a particularly pleasent encounter. I remember resisting the urge to ask him to sign an autograph, for my sister...he, Dylan and Leonard Cohen were (still are) her Mt Rushmore of music...he wasn't giving off a particularly plesent vibe that day...anyways, this other guy I worked with, a "real punk rocker" (brigt red mohawk, tons of tats before they were as mainstream, nose piercing etc etc etc) took a record up to him, and asked him to sign. Lou said something like "I'm shopping" and carried on, without signing. The guy I worked with (can't remember his name, but I think it was Doug) took a bit of offense to it. Later, when Lou came to the couner to check out, with his two friends, Lou reached over the counter to pick up the un-signed record, and was going to sign it..."Doug" said something like, "hey man, don't trouble yourself, your busy" very sarcastically. I just remember looking at Lou, and he kind of chuckled, as if to say "kids got balls..." He seemed kind of amused by the whole thing. I did find this article, somebody posted on Facebook... a part of Lou's life that doesn't get talked about very often: http://dangerousminds.net/comments/rachel_lou_reeds_transsexual_muse

I completely agree...but if the issue had just been losing Vanek, at that time, the deal would have most likely been done. Not saying it is right, or sound logic. At that time, however, the Sabres were coming off a two highly successful seasons, and most thought they were on the cusp of being an elite team...but management stepped into a PR buzz-saw with the handling of the Drury & Briere situations...keeping Vanek was as much a PR move as a hockey move. You can't really sepearate the three moves...

On paper it would seem like adding Vanek to the Tavares line would make them better...but it is amazing how often things like that don't pan out. From all I have heard/read, Moulson is not the natural talent that Vanek is. I think some Sabres fans don't realize how good Vanek was/is. Don't know as much about Moulson, though it all sounds good...got off to a rousing start...something tells me he will be in a Leafs jersey in the near future... I would be thrilled with his addition, but adding another guy, similar to Vanek, a little bit older, would seem to not really be in line with what the Sabres mission is right now... it seems like he would be a rental player. From what Burnside said (I think it was Burnside, ESPN) Garth Snow had to move Moulson, because his contract situation (like Vaneks in Buffalo) was starting to become a distraction. Apparently, Moulson wants a big, long-time deal (5 years), and the Islanders weren't prepared to do that...they would, however, be receptive to signing Vanek to a long-term deal. This is all hearsay, of course, but if it true, it gives some insight into the perceived superiority of Vanek to Moulson. All that said, Moulson is a bit scrappier a player...not the natural talent that Vanek is (not as physically imposing in front of the net as TV), but a guy who plays hard (Vanek has been dogged for years for being lazy- I always thought that was BS), and plays with a bit of a chip on his shoulder might be more of a "Buffalo" kind of guy.

They would have burned down HSBC arena, at that time, if the Sabres not only lost Drury, Briere and Vanek. I will give Darcy credit for one thing though, he does manage to get a lot in return for pieces, when his back is against the wall (Vanek, Pomminville, Guastadt). He is acquiring a healthy pool of draft picks... would love to be somebody else in charge of these upcoming drafts...

I love going to games at the Ralph, and would never pass up the opportunity...but sadly, I have to agree.

I think Dareus has been playing really well this season. It would be great if it worked that way. But it doesn't. The Saints are decidedly better than the Bills...
-
Well, for better or worse, the guy was the coach of the team for 15 years. I am one who thought it was time for a change when he was let go, but I will always remember him as a fine coach. I would guess a fair number of the people in the arena tonight can't even remember a Sabres before Lindy Ruff. He deserved to take a bow, and say goodbye to the Sabres faithful. He was the man at the helm for some really great seasons... Pretty cool that Moulson scored two, not one goal in his Sabres debut.

I have been to see the Bills in about 20 different stadiums over the years, New Orleans is probably my favorite road trip. Love the city, and the fans are great, for the most part. I know it is a broad generalization, but they really just do love a big event. Sure, they want their Saints to win...maybe it is all the years of miserable teams, but they really appreciate their team, win or lose. I have been to three games there (twice to see the Bills/Saints, and once for a Saints/Chiefs game) and I honestly don't remember a single ugly incident at the games.... I can't say that about any place else I have been for a game.

It could be very close to Matt Flynn time
Buftex replied to KikO M G's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I am not saying yesterdays game was a masterpiece, in any way...but what do you expect? He hasn't regressed...just the more he plays, the more mistakes he is going to make. The Bills are improving in many areas, but if the defense can't contain Drew Brees, no matter who the QB is, they aren't going to win a shoot out. I will agree, he really has to work on holding on to the ball a bit better...but even as ugly as yesterdays' game was (and it was ugly) I just don't see that Tuel or Flynn are going to give you more than that. And Lewis may still get better. He throws a nice ball...and he is pretty accurate (really accurate) when he isn't under a lot of pressure. He threw some ugly passes yesterday, but he threw some really nice ones too. So may lamented the loss of Fitz, saying he would have been a great back-up. Well, that ship sailed...but I think Lewis has been about as good, if not better, than Fitz was last year...if we go to Tuel or Flynn, it is step backwards, IMO. If you are worried about the Cheifs defense, do you really think Tuel or Flynn would fare better than Lewis? Just stick with the plan... -

Annoying Announcers and My Thoughts
Buftex replied to voodoo poonani's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I guess I am old school...I get sick of all the **** on the screens. I watch Bills games at a bar, when I look to other screens, it always takes a second to realize what I am watching... I am definitely in the "less is sometimes more" crowd on this one. I enjoy fantasy sports, but I really don't need updates every thirty seconds, telling me, at 1:20pm that Jordan Cameron has 1 reception for 4 yards. I have to say, I find the Bills radio broadcast team pretty dull. -
I get you, but Vanek was the young guy back then, just starting to come into his own...I am not sure if he ever turned into a "superstar", but as close to anything the Sabres have had since. But, your point is taken. The Sabres, if they have a future, are fully committed to two or three years down the road...no point in hanging on to these guys now...and just keep the fingers crossed that a lot of these guys pan out...I just don't like the current management/coaching staff enough to feel like we are just being strung along again. They really don't inspire much confidence. Maybe I am being too harsh on Rolston, but I just don't get a good feeling from him at all.

Annoying Announcers and My Thoughts
Buftex replied to voodoo poonani's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Eh...I really don't mind Deirdorf that much...I don't think you are deluding yourslef, but you are forgetting, announcers (specifically color guys, like Dierdorf) have far less time for analysis than they did in the 70's and 80's broadcasts. Dierdorf, IMO, knows the game very well...he just doesn't have enough time to break down plays...with the Bills offense, this year, I have also noticed fewer replays for Bills offensive plays, cuz they just don't have the time, so you just get more blanket statements. Funny thing is, I wathced the game in a bar yesterday, with about 25 Bills fans...early in the game Dierdorf said something about the Bills "have to be able to run the ball to have any chance"...the Bills fans I was with, from that point on, kept yelling at the screen anytime the Bills had a good passing play...."there you go Dier-dork! I thought we couldn't win if we couldn't run the ball!" That kind of stuff... in the end though, Dierdorf was right..the Bills couldn't run the ball effectively after the 1st quarter, got a slim lead, and couldn't hold it, becasue they couldn't move the chains enough, couldn't extend drives...we saw what happened. Being as thin skinned as Bills fans can be, I also notice a tendancey toward very selective hearing. -
In all fairness to Darcy (believe me, no fan of his) but that is easy to say in hind-sight. Vanek was an up and commer, and they had just bothced the Drury & Briere situation...if they had let Vanek skate, things would have been, perceptually any ways, much worse.

The Jags would want more that TJ Graham and a 3rd rounder for Justin Blackmon.
