  1. I think the Bills can win this game too, but, I am not assuming they will, just because the Bills appear to be on an uspwing, while the Steelers are in a downaward spiral. Steelers fans are beside themselves, saying it's time for LeBeau to go, bye-bye Mike Tomlin, etc etc..you know, sort of the same thing that goes on here. The difference is, the Steelers have a very rich tradition of winning, and are not mired in the cliche, "culture of losing' as we have been. The panic mode in "Steeler nation" is at an all-time high this week...don't be surprised if the Steelers play better than they have, at home, against what is perceived to be a weaker opponent. The vetran core of that team has won a lot of games over the years...we can't assume anything.
  2. Forgive me if this has already been posted in this link...it is just too long to wade through all the posts. From Grantland: http://www.grantland.com/blog/the-triangle/post/_/id/81380/the-miami-dolphins-and-everything-that-will-never-make-sense This, for me, is one of the more perplexing stories in the NFL in a while. A lot of levels...
  3. Slim is too cool for the Rock "N-Roll HOF!
  4. Yeah, I was referring mostly to Herschel. Just for the sake of drama, could it become a wedge issue between Darryl and Rick?
  5. If it makes you feel any better, although I had the last pick (#12) in the draft, I was fully prepared to take CJ Spiller with the #1 pick if I had gotten it.
  6. I suppose you are right...but as harsh as Carols' actions were, I still don't think she has been portrayed as a person without compassion. His handling of Carol, and his own son, and the disparity in their "punishment" (you can't play with guns for a while VS. you are out there on your own) is sure not to go over well with some...but I suppose that is the core of drama! It seems, in some ways, Carol has become a more functional version of what Shane had become early on. Somebody willing to do the dirty work, as they saw it needing to be done. Either way, I liked the way it was handled...been a very good season so far.
  7. Sabres played their most complete game last night...fun game to watch. Still, a little frustrtation that they only seem to be able to win shoot-outs, but what the hell, at this point, a win is a win, against a very good team. The Sharks have a legit gripe in that they scored a goal in OT which was not recognized as such by the on ice officials...and from what I can tell, no replay was viewed. If NHL coaches could throw challange flags, the Sabres would have lost...still, though, they gave up a ton of shots (that is a Sabres thing that has been going on for as long as I remember, no matter who the coach and players, they always get out-shot by a mile), but managed to control a good portion of a game, against a quality opponent. Good show...mabe a west-coast swing is coming at the right time for them.
  8. Just saw this on EBAY...pretty sweet! This is not my auction, just wanted to bring it to your attention...our new supsertar! http://www.ebay.com/itm/Buffalo-Bills-50-Kiko-Alonso-T-shirt-Large-Kiko-He-Will-Rock-You-/111207913667?pt=US_Football_Fan_Shop&hash=item19e48218c3#ht_24wt_1133
  9. I realize you pointed this out, which is what makes your comment silly, to me. You are up in arms over them not having somebody else, but you can't explain who that should have been. We are talking, at that point, about the same pool of crappy QB's that every team in need is signing and releasing as quickly as they can. The Bills plan, it would appear, at that point, was to keep their fingers crossed that EJ didn't get hurt, and to develop a backup. They already knew they didn't want to expose Tuel to waivers (lets not forget, most everyone was pretty impressed by him in pre-season), and they knew that they had Lewis on their PS. If Manuel could not have gone the first game, you don't think they would have put Lewis in the game day line-up? Sure, things didn't work out the way they wanted, and we all wish there had been better options...but there wasn't. And nobody complaining about it (sorry, don't mean to single you out, I have seen the point you are making stated by many), still can't come up with a better option than what they came up with. As I said earlier, anybody they signed would have meant letting someone else go..they were already suffering a spate of injuries at other positions. If I can fault the Bills with anything in this QB situation, it was letting Tarvarres Jackson go, without ever seeing him in game action, in favor of Kevin Kolb, a mediocre journeymen, who is just a career injury waiting to happen. I don't believe Jackson would have saved their season either, but his role on the team could have alleviated some of the anxiety that comes with having nothing but three inexperinced QBs on your roster.
  10. Blah blah blah... you don't know who was available, but the Bills should have had a better option that Tuel...given the chronology of events, who should they have had? Who? I understand your point, but they took a calculated risk that EJ wouldn't get hurt...if he did, in game, they had to go with Tuel. They didn't want to make a roster move, until they had to...you are forgetting, at the same time, almost every starter in the defensive secondary was injured, and many of their backups...you sign someone, you have to let someone go. Have you noticed that there are about 4 other teams in the same predicament the Bills were in? Sign guy like Leinart, Brady Quinn, or whoever....who would you cut? Notice, nobody wants any of the guys being bandied about...the Packers are stuck with Seneca Wallace...good QB's don't grow on trees, starters or backups. Just accept the fact, this is a young, rebuilding team.... Tuel is fine for now, as a third QB. I would hazard to guess, as QB obsessive/depressive as the Bills fan base seems to be, they are in much better shape than a number of teams at the position. They really didin't go into the season with Tuel as EJ's only backup...they went into the Browns game with Tuel as EJ's only backup. Thad Lewis was on the practice squad, and leap-frogged ahead of Tuel after that Browns game. It was a simple matter of saving a roster space, and not risk losing a guy they seem to think has some possibilities, in Tuel. Do you really think things would be a lot different if Matt Leinart was there? Jeezus....let the kids develop...did anyone really think this was going to be a playoff team this year? Enjoy this season for what it is, the first in what is looking to be a step back to respectability...think 1986 Bills, not 2006 Bills. They aren't there yet, but they are making strides.
  11. Speaking of Replacements covers, this an interesting cover of "Swingin' Party", one of Westerbergs finest songs...always wished George Jones would have recorded it...
  12. Ah..."Berlin"...maybe the darkest, most depressing album ever..."Transformer"...all geat albums. They all age well too...funny they are using "Perfect Day" on some PS4 commercial...now Lou can literally roll over in his grave!
  13. I thought he already kind of did that. What would one more time hurt?
  14. Over the weekend I listened to "Songs for Drella", an album I didn't really care for when it came out. It sounded incredible to me now...some of the best, most rewarding listens are those that don't sound so great the first time around.
  15. Yes, definitely not as accessable as "Velvet Underground" and "Velvet Underground with Nico"..."Loaded" is also a bit more of a mixed bag...but there are great moments on all of them. I think the thing about Reed is that he is very dark, but it has always been balanced with a dark tenderness that is hard to master in that forum. "Jesus" and "Pale Blue Eyes" are just gorgeous songs...
  16. Just heard that Bus Cook, Favre's agent, has said that "Brett is staying retired". If you click on the original story, Sporting News has updated it, with somebody tweeting Cook's comments.. This tweeting thing is getting out of hand...
  17. A great album too...but be prepared...it isn't all as "pretty" as the Nico album. Cales' influence is strong on that one...you are also in for a real treat with the third album "Velvet Underground". The first album is actually called "The Velvet Underground with Nico" (often referred to as "Any Warhol"... they didnt sell many records at all, but they influenced so many of the great artists to emerge from the 70's (Bowie, Talking Heads, Patti Smith, Blondie...REM a little later). I remember looking for their records in the late 70's, very early 80's (back before vinyl went away) and they were really hard to find...I remember paying about $30 for a used copy of the Nico album at the old Fantasy World store on Hertel. I had been looking for it for almost a year...the owner found one for me...$30 was lot to pay for a used album that was not close to "mint"...but it was worth it. Of course, they re-issued all of them about a year later... I really think REM had something to do with this, in some roundabout way. I was never a big REM fan, but I remember Stipe would always mention them as his greatest influence
  18. My memory is cloudy, but wasn't he set to retire as a Packer earlier this year, and then it got post-poned or somehting? Or was it his jersey retirment ceremony?
  19. Good choice... welcome to a larger world!
  20. They could bring Vince Young back...just sayin' Ted Thompson went out of his way, when VY was released, to say that he still thought Young had a place in the league, and he wished he had singend him to the Packers sooner than he did.
  21. If the Packers are not interested in Flynn, what would that tell you about Flynn? For the record (I know you all need to know this), the more I think about this, I really do think this is a PR attempt at finally, smoothing over whatever bumps there are in the road between Favre and the Packers. If Favre didn't think he could play again, just a few weeks ago, for the Rams, I don't think much could have changed. He is already talking about showing symptoms of concussions from his playing days...
  22. Not sure if you are serious Captain.. Howard Balzer was a long-time writer for the now defunct Pro Football Weekly. He currently, I believe, is the pro-football editor for the USA Today...he isn't exactly a nobody. I think, if he reports somthing, there is some substance to it. Whether this actually happens is anyones' guess, but I don't think Balzer would just make it up to get his name out there...anyone who follows pro football on a national level already knows who he is.
  23. You know, it might be the one situation that would be right for Favre. I have to believe, after the dust has settled a little (and dick pix have faded from memory) both the Packers and Favre have to be pretty unsatisfied with the way their relationship disintergrated. I suspect, the gesture alone, could just be a PR move, sort of a public kiss and make up between the Pack and their legendary QB.
