  1. Lafontaine new head of hockey operations...Bucky Gleason tweething Darcy and Rolston are out!
  2. A great example why stats don't always tell the story. Spiller wasn't getting anything done against Pittsburgh, he didn't warrant more playing time this past Sunday. Did you watch the game on Sunday? The carries that Spiller did get were killing them...stats don't tell the whole story. I am sure if Spiller had been more productive on the carries he did have, he would have seen the ball more. Marrone also mentioned that the Steelers blitzed the Bills less than they had any other team, in some time... the Bills anticipated more, and blocking is not Spillers' strong suit. Also, to draw any conclusion about the coaching staff, based on the stat that a running back (on a team that normally only has one on the field per play) was on the field less than a WR (with two to four on the field per play, with injuries in the corp) is just silly. You can find stats, no matter how irrelevant, to make any point I suppose.
  3. I took a break from the Sabres for a week... I didn't miss them at all...0-3 during that time. Did catch the San Jose game, which was actually a pretty fun game to watch..
  4. I agree with this...and I am not ready to give up on Manuel just yet. However, you could argue, QB play has cost this team at least 3 games...it is a pretty great need. Not to say EJ can't be that guy, but he has to start showing he can make some plays.
  5. Cool enough for the Rock N' Roll hall of fame?
  6. I hope you are right. I am probably a bit older than you, so Star Trek was, for me, what Star Wars is for so many. I was 12 when the original film came out, and saw it 12 times that summer....by the time the Empire Strikes Back came out, I was more interested in rock n' roll and girls...not to say I was too cool to care, I still saw it, after it had been out a month or so (back in the days when a hit movie could stay out at a first run theater for a year, if people were still paying to see it)...Return of the Jedi, the same. I never imagined there would be more....so, years later, when they revived the franchise, I had come full circle, and was really excited about it...went to see the first movie the first Sunday it was out...I thought it was awful...I couldn't imagine being more disappointed with a movie I fully expected to love...the two after that (I only saw them on DVD) were only slightly more watchable...so that is why I am a bit leery of them giving the wheel another spin. Its' great that Abrams is a big Star Wars geek... I wish he had left Star Trek alone... I realize it doesn't have the hip factor that Star Wars does, but in retrospect, I would be fine if they had just left it alone, where it was...let the old folks have their classic, and let Star Wars have its' era. But they couldn't leave it alone, because there was money to be made... Star Trek, because it was an ongoing series, is a very character driven story... to re-boot the series, and give the characters no character is a big blunder.
  7. I hate to say it, but the overreaction by some here, to bad play by young players, is pretty depressing. Especially DB's. You could make a strong argument, especiall with the rules the way they are stacked against defense, that CB is pretty close to QB as the toughest position to play in the NFL. The history of the NFL is littered with stories of DB's who struggle their first couple of seasons, before they "get it". There are very few guys who don't struggle to some degree early on. Compund that with the fact that Williams was playing corner on a defense that which had almost no pass-rush, and it only made it worse. People here are depressingly impatient. Anyone remember how horrible Derrick Burroughs was when he came in the NFL? He turned into a great corner...Charles Woodson? George Teauge? Williams is a terrific kid, was a terrific ball player at Texas... if he rubbed some the wrong way as being arrogant, imagine being a 20 year old kid, on top of the world, playing for your dream team in Austin, one minute, and then going across the country to play in Buffalo, on a miserable team (with an increasingly miserable fan base) and being told that you suck week in week out...all the while, being introduced to your new NFL duties by some of the worst defensive coaching we have seen in some time...in Buffalo that is saying something. I understand where the impatience comes from...I just pray that this team truly turns the corner, so we can return to our status of being "good fans" who understand that things take time... fans that don't take out their frustrations with the franchises' endless woes, on young kids who have nothing to do with any of that....let them breath, let them learn, watch them thrive.
  8. Bills, history of losing, at 3-6, going into a stadium that is one of the more difficult venues to win, against a team that is 2-7, with a history of winning, feeling their back is against he proverbial wall...believe me, I love that the Bills appear to be finally making some progress, but that is all a feeling...the results are not there yet...I am not sure how anyone could feel like this is an "easy win", until the Bills actually win it, easily or not. They have lost numerous games over the recent years, when the table appears set in their favor. Start winning some of these "easy" wins, and confidence will only grow more...
  9. San Jose...I don't get it. Sure, if McCargo had the career of KW he wouldn't be considered a bust...but he didn't... and to compound it, the Bills traded up in the first round to get him. Who knows what else they might have been able to do with that pick? The fact that they got pretty solid production, in the same draft, from a guy they picked, four rounds later, IMO, only serves to make the pick look even worse. I am not saying, at the time, I was all over the pick saying it was a bad pick, but in retrospect, I think McCargo may be the worst Bills first round pick of this century. Sure, when the topic of worst picks in Bills draft history comes up, people usually mention Mike Williams or Aaron Maybin...they rarely mention McCargo. At least with Maybin, they cut bait fairly quickly....and you could argue that Williams never played to the level that was expected of him for as high as he was drafted...but he did start for 4 years, and wasn't completely useless. Based on your argument (maybe not argument, but observation?) about McCargo/Kyle W, I would argue that if Mike Williams had been a third, fourth or fifth round draft pick, he would have been viewed far differently, and favorably. McCargo, somehow, managed to stay on the Bills roster for 5 years, was a healthy scratch as often as not, when he was healthy enough to play...and I think, for all his time as a Bill, the only thing he had to show for it was recovering a fumble on a special teams play.... McCargo rarely gets mention as being amongst the Bills worst 1st round picks ever, because he did so little, people forget he actually existed!
  10. I thought the first Star Trek re-boot film was decent, but the second one was pretty bad, IMO. It left me asking the question "why did they bother to re-boot this series"? I think the notion of taking what is generally regarded as the best Trek film (The Wrath of Kahn), was a ****ty idea. To simply reverse the Kirk & Spock characters in one of the most famous scenes from the original was lame. All of the characters are simply caricatures of the originals...blah...and then, to top it off, Kahn is totally neutered into some bland, metro-sexual villain. !@#$, they even made the Klingons indistinguishable from the baddies in every other sci-fi /comic book/fantasy franchise...Hollywood sucks. I hope Abrams does a better job with Star Wars. I am not all that interested in it (first movie is one of my all-time favorites, the rest pale), but I realize the cultural touchstone that it is. I hope they are making it because they have a great idea for a story or film, not just as a vehicle to sell more merchandise.
  11. Oh yeah, forgot about him too. I thought he signed with Seatlle...gotta keep up with "real" football waiver wires.
  12. I could actually see him returning to the Jets, at leas for the rest of the season...he is well loved in NY (kind of like we are with Moorman), and they can certainly use some WR help. Was never really sure what to make of him as a Buffalo Bill. Best of luck to him...honestly, I had almost forgot about him.
  13. I would probably not make the deal...you are in good shape already, IMO. Calvin and TY Hilton are a very solid starting receiving corp (especially now that Wayne is out), and I don't know that Zac Stacey is, ultimately, going to be any better an option than any of your other RB's. True, Seneca Wallace might make Jordy Nelson void, but I would wait to see if that happnens, before getting rid of him. I wouldn't be surprised if you have similar options in a few weeks...I am slightly in the same boat, with James Jones. Because of injuries and bye weeks, I have to choose between starting him, or Eddie Royal, who has not practiced in about 3 weeks, though plays on game day..so far. Just curious, what is the person in your league who has Aaron Rodgers doing for QB now? You might think of trading Pryor to them for a receiver, or RB (I assume, for you, the rb is what you are looking for) if you feel like you need another.
  14. I kind of agree...but I think they just carried fewer of the teeny-boppers for this west coast road trip...if they continue that way, I agree, it doesn't make sense. I think everyone agrees, they knew this season would be bad, but not this bad... I can understand them wanting to string a few wins together, just to keep the angry mob outside their doors placated. Converely: When they were rolling with the four teenagers a week or so ago, they looked so awful, I wonder how much they can learn that way either...
  15. I could be off on this, but I could have sworn during a game a week or two ago, they said that going back to the begining of Roltsons' stint as head-coach, the Sabres have only won 8 games in regulation... a win is a win, I suppose, but some wins are better than others...like the ones where you don't give a conslolation point to the "loser". I found that really troublesome...not saying that is all Rolston (they had troubles with this under Ruff the last couple of years as well), but that is just a bad trend. Especially when you are a team that makes it an annual tradition of scraping and crawing your way in the standings, for the last playoff spot...they have 18 wins in 49 games under him, and fewer than half are in regulation.
  16. Somebody got a hummer for a Kiko jersey....that is the kind of respect that matters.
  17. When the Sharks tied it up with about 3:50 left, I was really pretty sure the Sabres would give up a goal i the final minute of regulation...they do that way too often, been doing it for about 4 seasons now...the fact that they hung in there and won was no small feat for this team...though in truth they did get a little lucky in OT.
  18. Harry...happy birthday to the best fan on TBD, in my book. I know you take a lot of crap for being too optimistic about the Buffalo sports teams (or at least the Bills, I know you are a bit down on the Sabres too!), but I really appreciate it. I strive to find that place again! Your dedication to Buffalo/WNY sports is tremendous. Have a great birthday old man.... you and your boys!
  19. Yeah...I don't know what that is all about..and I didn't want to read it again to try to figure it out.
  20. Well, in all fairness, he is only asking if TJ Graham is any good. Apparently the conscencious opinion of TBD isn't very clear... Wait! What about Aaron Williams? Oh, yeah, wait....we like him now! Yup...all the talent in the world is no good if you are always injured..it is what really derailed Marcus Easley's carrer. But it is hard not to like what you see when Goodwin is out there. I gotta say, I didn't like the pick when they made it..but there appears to be some potential there.
  21. The story has been edited since it was originally posted. The original story made no mention of Bus Cook, and said, most definitiely, that the interest was on the side of the Packers ...
