  1. I agree, Flynn will be the odd man out, once Manuel is back. They stick with Thad until then...but in the event that the Bills start winning some games before Manuel returns, and Lewis gets hurt (the way things are going, we have to prepare for the worst case scenario), I would assume, the Bills want as many QB's as the can possibly afford to carry. For whatever reason, right or wrong, they seem to have determined that Tuel is worth carrying, no matter the situation. So, you almost have to take him out of the equation of who stays, and who goes. He is staying. Yet, given the Bills actions, there is a better chance that Dennis Dixon takes the field than there is off us seeing Tuel again....unless, of course, there are a bundle of QB injuries on game day. Tuels appearence against Cleveland was pretty awful, granted...but he did show some flashes in pre-season (fwiw)...it is possible he would perform a bit better with a week to prepare. I think what was most alarming about the Cleveland game was how weak his arm looked...but guys like Chad Pennington managed to be decent back-ups. The situation in Cleveland might have just a been a little "too big" for him. The Bills obviously see something in him...they kind of painted themselves into a corner with him. I am not convinced the market for him would be as hot as the Bills think (especially since they have given him a pretty obvious vote of "no confidence at this time"), but as long as they aren't carrying him to the detriment of other glaring needs, it might not be a bad thing.
  2. The Replacements are the last rock n'roll band I really loved...could care less if they are in the HOF or not...and I won't begrudge them if they show up and accept the accolades. I don't think it will boost their record catalog sales much...people who have always loved them will still enjoy their music, and people who have never heard of them will not care...just be thankful, should they accept, that they didn't make it in the same year as the Red Hot Chilli Peppers or all the other horrendous 90's LA bands that have been part of the "all-star jam" at the end of the ceremony...your memories of Westerberg won't be forever tainted by seeing him suck up (or be sucked up to) by the likes of Flea, Dave Navarro and Slash! Though, it would be cool to see Tom Petty induct them, and admit that he stole one of his most famous lines ("rebel without a clue") from Westerberg... Personally, I think Westerberg (lets face it, this is about recoginizing him as much as the Replacements) is one of the great rock-n'roll songwriters of all time... he should reap some of the benefits (whatever those are) while he is still alive. When there is a country all-star tirbute to the Replacements, with Travis Tritt singing "If Only You Were Lonely" than you can worry about street-cred...
  3. I kind of already went on a diatribe about this in another thread....but the worst draft day decision I ever made, ever was this year, when I was bent on getting one of the "can't miss" QBs in the draft. We have a 12 team snake draft...so, I had picks 12 & 13...by that time, there was crap left for legit running backs...only two guys left that were undisputed #1's on their teams (two guys I did not want to take, but was kind of forced to) were Ray Rice & Chris Johnson. So, when my next picks rolled around at 24 & 25, I was determined to get the best QB left (our league has high value on QB's) and the best WR...here is where I !@#$ed up royally: The only two "can't miss" QB's left were Peyton and Tom Brady. The only receiver left, that I had ranked as an upper tier guy, was Wes Welker...all of the sudden, the voice of Matthew Berry screamed at me "you don't want your #1 QB, #1 RB, or #1 WR to be from the same team..." I found this bit of advise less than sound when I heard it (especially IRT QB & WR), but I out thunk myself. Seeing as I knew I was taking Welker, I took Brady as my QB. I had some concern about Manning's health (at the time there was some "whispers" that he seemed to have lost something on the deep ball), but I had much bigger concerns about Brady and the lack of talent around him. I listened to Matthew Berry instead of myself, and took Brady...I fell into the whole Belichik, Brady, they always get it done..., well, to a degree that is still true (Pats are 5-1).... I don't think I need to tell anyone that Brady is having a terrible FF year (EJ my drafted back-up had more points on the season before he got hurt, his replacement Terrelle Pryor is neck and neck), but Manning is having a monster season...I really !@#$ed up. I went back and looked at the scores in my league so far...I would be 5-1 by simply trading Manning for Brady each week...and I have little doubt that the person who drafted Manning would have taken Brady if that what was left to them. That person is 6-0...I am just about dead at 2-4. Trade QB's, I am 5-1, they are 2-4. This is like the FF equivalent of the Colts getting cute, and drafting Ryan Leaf instead of Peyton Manning back in 1998...imagine how different the NFL would have been the last 15 years or so...
  4. WOW! That is awesome...thanks so much GBID! Having a sort of melancholy day...this cheered me up! Kevin O'Connell was so much younger, only half the man he is today! Of course, after watching the initial story, had to skip ahead to the sports report (about 26:00 mark)...Sabres beat the Islanders, Rick Martin scores his 31st of the season (January 31st!!!!)...Buffalo Braves left town a day early to escape the snow, as their home game with the Rockets was canceled, and Dallas Cowboys assistant "Danny Reeves" has turned down the head coaching job with the Atlanta Falcons....the good old days!
  5. I know...used to subscribe...it was great, reading a "preview of week 7" mathchup in week 9, when the damn thing finally arrived in the mail! How did we survive? Was pleasently surprised to see that they still have a print copy of "Shout". I couldn't find one anywhere when I was back home in July (great for reading on the plane), but I saw somebody carrying one in the airport with Dough Marrone on the cover!
  6. I honestly remember very little of the Dick Jauron era as being "exciting". Way more frustrating, and boring, than exciting, is the way I remember it. I won't blame it all on DJ, but his teams, offensively, were just painful to watch...painful. The philosophy seemed to be, during that time, "lets just not take any chances and hope the other team makes a mistake we can capitalize on, and steal a win"...he was the ultimate "play not to lose" guy, who, ironically, lost quite a few more than he won. Gailey, and Hackett are not perfect, mind you, but Gailey had twice the balls that Jauron had with his offense (I realize Gailey was HC/OC, while DJ was just the HC), and Hackett has been erratic...Hackett benefits, because he has more talent to work with than either of the other two guys... Not to go off on a tangent (here comes a tangent), but I was very pleased with Thad Lewis' performance on Sunday (as many were), but I think lost in all of that is that Hackett called a pretty good game, for his QB. I am not so sure he has called a game as well for Manuel.
  7. Don't know if any of you remember, back before the days when print media was a bit more relevent, Chris Brown was (I believe) the editor of Shout Magazine...his column was the best thing about it back then. He was more objective. Lets be honest, who can blame a guy for trying to make a living...mix in the fact that he gets to work for his favorite pro-sports team, as "glorified PR guy"...how many wouldn't jump at that chance?
  8. I hate to say it, but I think guys are comfortable in Buffalo...too comfortable perhaps. Vanek, from what I hear, really loves living in Buffalo, as do his wife and kids...same with Ehrhoff....Miller. Pegula may be bumbling things a bit, but I do believe he wants to build a winner...he just doesn't know how...and Darcy is not going to help him....TPegs just doesn't seem to get it. GR had a poll about the Sabres current state... I had to vote that I knew this was going to be a tough season going in, but it has been harder to watch than I ever imagined. I liked Lindy Ruff, but I think it was time for a change...I was willing to give Rolston a shot...but I am just not feeling anything from this guy...it depresses me to think that Grigorenko is already being talked about as a bust...Tyler Myers for all his re-dedication to the game in the off-season, re-united with Tallinder, looks as lost as last year.... Cody shows flashes but then disappears...Foligno has been invisible...I am hardly a Ryan Miller ball-washer, but 7 games in to the season, he has really been the only bright spot. Giving them 3 more games (when the Center Ice free preview ends) then I am taking a little break from watching the Sabres....they are really hard to watch....very little, if any, entertainment value so far this year. They are boring, appear to be over-matched at almost every turn...it could be a long 3 years...was 2006 that long ago? Only down 1-0 right now...who gets tonights goal against the Islanders?
  9. I agree...and I don't mean this as a negtive, but this season is feeling a little like the first year Gailey and Fitz were running the Bills...lot of close games, very competitive...big difference is, though they still have a ways to go, the defense isn't completely hopeless. It seems like parts are working well, just not all at the same time. Came close in the 4th qtr against the Bengals.
  10. They are all saying the right things anyways. Rumor seems to be that Vanek will try to reunite with Pomminville in Minnesota, if he should leave Buffalo.
  11. Not a big fan of Brown (though not a hater either) but you know, he has sort of intimted things in the past, without reporting them as fact...he was the first person I ever heard strongly suggest that the Bills had their sights on EJ Manuel this past draft. Pretty much every pro-sports team has a guy like Brown on their staff. There is so much information and mis-infromation on the internet these days, not sure why he would bother anyone so much.
  12. Like I said, boorishness prevails.
  13. Agreed, I like Buscaglia.
  14. Of course you would say that...the majority is always right...you are in the majority, so I guess you are right. Why is it so hard for you to acknowledge that a group of people are offended by something, that doesn't offend you, have the right to be offended? Why is their offense at something like this so distasteful to you? Because you have to think about something other than yourself from time to time? This whole issue is hardly new, you guys are acting like it is some sudden liberal media cause... this issue has come up every couple of years, for as long as I can remember (far back as the early 70's)...some teams changed their names and logos years ago, some, like the Redskins, did not. Now, the vocal minority have more means and ways to get their message out there. So, they will continue to rail on it. Makes perfect sense, "I am not offended, so anyone who is offended is just being a baby, or, worse, a PC kitty". Honestly, the name doesn't offend me personally, but the attitude that some of you take is a lot more offensive. Perhaps political correctness has become so hard for some to deal with, that the move toward boorishness is all the rage. Can't help but feel something in the middle is obtainable.
  15. Bills fans are awesome...just give them some hope and they will show up.
  16. Gonna sound crazy, and we still don't know, but I swear, watching that Browns game, the way they showed EJ moving around after the injury, I really was sure he would be back the next week, if not in that game. I know that means little, but I also thought it was odd that they declared him out 4-8 weeks so abruptly. I have sprained a knee before (as well as ankles many times) and I am far from a well trained athlete (really far at this point!), and I realize there are varying degrees of sprains...but I can't remember one ever lasting a month or two...and I never had the luxury of spending day after day getting medical attention on the sprain. I realize it is silly to compare myself to an athlete, but I really had a hunch he would be back sooner than they were predicting. In Marrones' short tenure I am getting the feeling that he (or maybe he and the front office) are ones who assume the worst case scenario. Enjoying the Thaddeus Lewis show, but I wan the EJ Manuel project to get back on schedule asap!
  17. So, the majority of people, and Dan Snyder are ass-holes. Congrats!
  18. So, Sabres lose 2-1...at this pace, they will average about 1 goal per game...rebuild or not, that is bad hockey. Grigorenko is already feeling like a bust...can't help but feel like he would go somewhere else and look like an actual NHL player....
  19. Pryor had 2 more points than Brady yesterday...should somebody be benched?
  20. The title of this thread should read The guy who "wrote" Friday for Rebecca Black has a new song...
  21. I noticed Kiko tackling a lot of guys who were missed by the first defender (Hughes included)...like I said, would have to go back and re-watch, but he broke up a few plays in the Bengals backfield. Let's face it, our secondary was a bit over matched yesterday as a whole...the Bengals took advantage.....
  22. I guess I would go back and watch more closely, but I thought Kiko played pretty well (other than getting juked by Andy Dalton on 3rd & 6th), and I thought Mario played hard through most of the game..I always pay a bit more of attention to him...the results (ie:stats) may not have been stellar but the effort was there...
  23. I didn't mind them going for it at all, though I was not crazy about the play that was called. It is easy to criticize when it doesn't work...but people saying they would have won if they had just kicked a field goal there are silly. They are assuming that everything else that happened in the game after that point wold be exactly the same...and it wouldn't have.
