  1. Seabass vs Scooby....thought this was kind of funny! http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000243574/article/sebastian-janikowski-refutes-josh-scobees-comments
  2. I think he just mis-spoke...but I am pretty sure he quoted BB as saying "this is a divisional game, I don't need to remind you how important divisional games....this isn't going to be like last week". Maybe he (VW) meant "last year", but it isn't what he said.
  3. What I got from Wilforks' comments is that Belichek and company don't really take the Bills seriously at all...was funny is VW kept saying how "all week BB was telling us (in referenct to the Jets game) this is a divisional game...these games are always the toughest...I don't have to say any more than that...this is a divisional game...its' not going to be like last week.." Yeah, it is pretty juvenile.
  4. WNY is a hard sell to anyone who has never been there...why would they want to go there? But once you are there, it has its' charms. I always thing about moving back, but I with a native Texas girl who thinks it is "freezing" outside if the temperture dips below 72 degrees....choices!
  5. We have a 12 team league, normally it is about 9 or 10 of the same people, and then 2 or 3 newbies...this year was the first year, that I can remember, that everyone returned from the previous year. Our draft seeding isn't based on last years results, it is just decided randomly (number from a hat!), and we don't know until right before the draft starts. Based on last years results, I would have had the 7th or 8th pick...I got bumped in the first round of the playoffs...IIRC I was the 5th or 6th seed...can't remember now. Given my late draft choice, and the fact that all the good running backs were going off the board pretty quick, I had to take the two best running backs left in round 1 & 2 (picks 12 & 13)...Ray Rice and Chris Johnson. Not terribly exciting picks (given my druthers, wouldn't have wanted to draft Johnson that high, but there would have been absolutely nothing left 24 picks later....snake draft!)...picking last you really don't have a lot of control of your draft strategy. Brady had a pretty rough night agaist the Jets...can't remember him ever having so many incompletions in one game (19 out of 39 for 185 and TD), let alone passing under 50%...it is not Brady I am so much worried about, it his supporting cast. Julian Edleman (who I picked up and started) had 13 of those 19 receptions, for a meager 78 yards...
  6. Ohio Players, good call...they always had hot album covers....
  7. Ha ha...I had that on in the backround and thought about starting a thread about it...then I figured "why bother?" Glad to know I am not the only one who still has thin skin about some of this stuff...
  8. Yeah, I realize Boldin is bigger, and perhaps I should have qualified my statement...I was talking about their temperament, and toughness. I had never seen Woods play a lot in college, but after the Bills drafted him, I watched a number of USC replays on Big Ten Network. What impressed me so much about Woods was how scrappy and tough he was...and he really seems to enjoy playing with a lot of contact...for me, Anquan is one of the toughest SOB's to play WR in the last 30 years or so...love watching him play...Woods reminds me of him in that way. Woods was a little overshadowed at USC by his teammates, it seems, just like Anquan in Arizona. I think Woods can get bigger, maybe not, but I don't think he is as fragile as some WR.
  9. Good call on Carly Simon and Liz Phair...another along the same lines...those legs!
  10. One of my all-time favorites, George Jones "Alone Again". Staring into his mil-shake...great album too. "I Can Stand on My Own Two Knees" should be an anthem for all back-sliders...
  11. As jaded as I have become over the years, every once in a while, I am still amazed at the human capicity to be extrodinarly kind, or incredibly ****ty... not sure which side of the ledger this one falls on... but it is one or the other. http://www.huffingto...nk3&pLid=373886
  12. I would make that trade any time...Gore is super steady and reliable. I had him last season, as kind of an afterthought, and he was, by far, my best, most consisitant player. Steve Johnson will give you 4 or 5 good weeks and then 8 or 9 "meh" weeks. I also scooped up Robert Woods in the late rounds of our draft...after watching about 4 or 5 of his college games, and his pre-season games (to a lesser extent) I have this fantasy that he could become another Anquan Boldin type receiver, with a little more speed maybe...it may take a while to realize that potential, but hey, they call it "fantasy football" for a reason. That said, I will go against the grain, and say you should start Hilton.
  13. I made a huge error on draft day. I had a chance to draft either Tom Brady or Peyton Manning in the 3rd round or 4th round (I was #12 in a 12 team snake draft, so I had back to back picks), and I went with Brady in round 3, and next pick, round 4, I picked up Wes Welker. Got Gronkowski later on..now, make no mistake, I am no closet Pats fan (though, I did pick up Julian Edlmen on waivers this morning), but I had too many voices in my head (Matthew Berry types) preaching to me that you don't want to have a #1 QB/WR combo from the same team. Sadly, having such a late pick in the draft, Welker was, by far the best WR option available to me. Ours is not a PPR league, so Welker is only good, not great most weeks. I have had him before, as a Patsy. Looking back, I should have taken P Manning. My biggest question mark about him was his health (I had heard "insider" reports that his arm has lost something, looked pretty great week 1), with Brady my biggest concern was the team around him. I succumbed to the Patriot hype machine, for those few minutes, and convinced myself that Brady/Belichek will always get the most from the least. I am kind of regretting it now...I think Brady will have a good season (g'damn it!), but Manning appears poised to have a stellar season. I drafted Gronkowski, knowing he would miss a few games at the begining of the season...I figured his injury status would scare people off, and it did. As a backup for the first few weeks, I went with a gut feeling on Dwayne Allen, from the Colts. Fleener is the more well known guy in Indy, but Allen is a better player. As it turned out, week one, Allen only got me 5 pts, and had a pretty pedestrian game. That doesn't worry me so much, but the fact that Allen seems to be nursing some sort of hip injury does. Now, going into tonights game (Pats/Jets), I am wondering if I should jettison Allen, and pick up Celek, Winslow Jr or Dallas Clark instead? I am now 0-1, going up against one of the better (if not best) looking teams in our league. I still think Hilton will have a big year. He and Luck seem sympatico! One of the hardest things in FF (for me anyways) is to not overreact in the first few weeks of the season...teams kind of "settle down" after the first few weeks, and become what they will be for the rest of the season, barring injuries. Cook was a great pick!
  14. Yup...fantasy football has really driven the value up, of injury news/updates...and though the NFL doesn't condone gambling, they will do everything they can to encourage it!
  15. PTR- I have had the same router for about 8 years...it still works fine...what are you doing to yours?
  16. Agreed.
  17. Yeah, I was gonna say the same thing, but didn't want it to get all PETA-y around here...love halibut!
  18. 434 lb halibut caught in Hull...that is a lot of steaks! http://www.pawnation.com/2013/09/11/uk-anglers-catch-434-pound-150-year-old-fish/
  19. Yeah, as an Austinite who gets more Longhorns coverage than I care to, I was not thrilled with the Goodwin pick, particularly that early on (third round)...good guy, nothing personal, but he was used more of as a gadget guy, kick returner, and in garbage time as a receiver at UT Goodwin may be better, ultimately, than TJ Graham, but you are correct, they have very similar skill sets. Unless the Bills really start airing it out (we haven't seen any evidvence of that yet) with EJ, I don't see a great need (on a team that has so many weaknesses) for TJ and Goodwin... I am one who thinks that TJ was not really used properly last season, because of QB limitations...too early, IMO, to write him off. Figure out a way to use the one one toy you already have, before getting another.
  20. Congrats AJ!
  21. Okay, and how many of those 73 balls went to either Goodwin or Graham? Four? How many went to any wide receivers...less than 10 is my guess. Stats don't always paint a complete picture. So, all the receivers suck, becuase the ball was never thrown to them. Got it.
  22. Really? Regular season games? I am surprised the NFL would allow that. Or, are you just talking about pre-season games? I have seen it with pre-season, but those games are set up by the individual franchises, and the rights belong to the teams, not the NFL. I have never heard of this being done with regular season games before. They definitely never did it when I have lived in an NFL city... I didn't live in WNY at the time, but I seem to recall that the local NBC affiliate in Buffalo (WGRZ, maybe WGR back then) tried to lobby the NFL to allow them to show a re-broadcast of the legendary comeback game against the Oilers, but the NFL wouldn't allow it. They are pretty tight fisted abou this kind of thing...
  23. It always amuses me that people come here to ask for opinions on some situation, when they are clearly in the wrong, because they need somebody to tell them that they are right...it never works!
  24. Not sure how the number of plays he was on the field is relevant. According to ESPN, Robert Woods was on the field for all but two of the Bills offensive snaps. He was targeted twice. Once for a TD! What does that mean? I liked the game that EJ Manuel had on Sunday, and am very encouraged. That said, the Bills just didn't seem willing to really try to stretch the field at all. I am not ready to write of TJ Graham, until he gets the kind of opportunites that he appears to be built for..(and fails or succeeds). There were a few plays where he (and other receivers for that matter) seemed open down field, but EJ wasn't looking his way. The guy is a speed burner, and is being used, primarily, like a possession receiver. It was the same as last year. Early last season, he seemed to get past his coverage...Fitz was willing to throw to him, but seemed incapable of throwing on target....
  25. The robot speaks the truth! Nobody here is happy with the outcome of yesterdays game (other than those Bills fans who's sole reason for following the team at all is to complain), but keep things in perspective...please! For your own sake, if nothing else. I am not writing this season off at all, but I am also mindful of the fact that it could be a tough season, with new moving parts in all the key places. To me, this season is about watching a bunch of young guys progress and get better as the season goes on. It's about seeing the team develop some sort of personality (something it has been lacking for years now). and building a foundation for a team that is, finally, worth building on. This endless cycle of tearing it down and building it back up, around. essentially, the same base is just not working. I really don't think that Russ Brandon is the root of all evil here. Had the Bills played the same game yesterday, against, say, the Broncos, I really think people here wouldn't be in full on doomsday mode as some seem to be. The Bills played a good, not great game yesterday against a better team, and they almost pulled it off...the Patriot fatigue can't be overestimated here. Funny, as I don't live in WNY any more, I can normally only go to a game a year, in Buffalo. If I had my first pick of games to go to, this would have been it. A chance to see Cam Newton live is only going to come around event 4 years, maybe. So wish I could go....
