Bills plan for Tuel as week 1 starter
Buftex replied to DisplacedBillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Haven't had time to read an etire article, only hightlihgts....doesn't Marrone say that they are preparing to start Tuel in week 1? That is slightly different than saying Tuel is going to be the starter on week 1. Tuel is the #1 guy, right now, week 4 of preseason, but that could change next week, if EJ is ready. -

Would like to discuss further, but I will wait a few days....let everyone catch up...all I can say, even when you do predict what will happen, it is still shocking the way it is actually carried out... -

Bills Trade for Lions QB Thaddeus Lewis
Buftex replied to BRAWNDO's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Just guessing, but Moore would probably cost them more. And, if they trade for Lewis (who likely would have been cut, you are right) it assures that he goes to Buffalo, likely didn't cost them much (haven't heard that part of the deal yet)...the Bills need bodies in camp asap! If Kolb is done, it almost seems like they have to carry 4 QBs. EJ, Tuel (if they PS him, he is gone) and then Lewis and Leinart. Lewis sounds like a better fit for the offense, at least short term, than Leinart...but Leinart may (I say may) be a better guy for them in the long run. -

Sad to see White go... but the days of being a limited player who can really only contribute on special teams seem to be a thing of the past. -
Not to mention if they hadn't cut John McCargo (they did cut him didn't they? He was on the roster a loooong time doing nothing), the could have a reunion of 2006 #1 picks from NC State in Mario, Lawson and McCargo... The Bills new motto could be: "Buffalo: The last chance for the 2006 draft to pan out" Seriously though, Leinart doesn't excite me any less than Kolb. The Bills really don't have a lot of options. I see where the 49ers are dangling out Colt McCoy...so it seems like there is a good chance he will be available...again!

Josh uncle Joe Cribbs is one of my all-time favorite Bills...but as other have pointed out, WR (especially ones that are more return men, and not very accomplished offensivly) are the least of the Bills worries at the moment. I could see him winding back up in Cleveland, or with the NY Jets. The Jets receivers are pretty bad, and they have little speed on offense. They looked so bad, almost wonder if Rex is going to flame out before the season even starts....

I think Kiko Alonso has looked pretty good so far

I think we're overreacting with the game yesterday.
Buftex replied to BillsFan3434's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think, too, this whole notion that the 3rd pre-season game, somehow has more significance than others is complete BS. As much as anything, coaches are trying to get through these games without costly injuries. It didn't work for the Billsyesterday. I originally only kind of half-watched the game, during my fantasy football draft, but watched a little closer later on last night. True, there wasn't a lot of good to take away from this game..but there was some, for some individual players Kiko Alonso, Macrell Dareus and Jerry Hughes (again) kind of stood out to me. -
Does anybody else think that Kolb could be a surprise cut

Like VY and all, but I think EJ could mentor him. -
Condolences KRT...I lost my day about 5 weeks ago, and my mom about a year and a half ago, he was 82. I am now 48 year old orphan. Both losses hurt a lot...my love for my mom was unconditional, but with dad it was a little more conflicted. I am glad our relationship improved over the last decade....his loss has affected me in ways I never imagined. Years ago I would get aggravated if someone told me I was "just like" my father, now I am glad that I inherited a lot of the great qualities that weren't always appreciated. To your dad!

Yes, this is going to be the NFL's version of the tobacco industry scandal way back. It sounds as though they have suppressed information for decades and only started worrying about the safety issue in recent years, when the old timers started speaking out. Can't remember all the details so much now (I too played football! ), but HBO's "Inside Sports" did a pretty damning piece about this, about 5 years ago, when the noise on this issue started to get considerably louder. I feel selfish, because I love football, and I confess, the toughness of it appeals to me...and I find myself bemoaning the "softness" of today's game from time to time, when I let my guard down. But I don't think there is much denying that horrible repercussions that come with the sport for so many. I would venture to guess that the ill effects of those head traumas last much longer with more guys (not to mention all the other types of injuries) than the "millions" that they make over their short careers.

Remember that whold fiasco, in the late 90's I think, where the NFL, essentially, coerced ESPN into cancelling that awful pro-football drama? Sorry the show name escapes me...but it was actually pulling in very good ratings for ESPN. Then, they uncerimouniously dumped it...word was,the NFL didn't like that it portrayed the world of pro-football and pro football players in a very unflattering (to many) light. ESPN is powerful, but not without keeping the NFL happy.

Why is no one concerned about this...
Buftex replied to sirebors's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Even if he hasn't uttered the words "trade me" or "I want to be traded", or some variation on the theme, Byrds actions speak for him. He doesn't want to be a Buffalo Bill, unless the Buffalo Bills want to pay him the amount that will make him happy to be a Buffalo Bill. Move on.... some other team, no doubt, will give him a huge contract, then ask him to restructure a year or two later, or, maybe even cut him....this is the cycle. -
What more evidence ESPN is lost?

If you listen to ex-ESPNers, though, they might have their opinions, but they are often told what their opinion will be... -

Apparently ESPN hasn't gotten the word...Cowherd is now going to be part of their Sunday pre-game programming. I can't tell you how much I loathe Cowherd...I couldn't overstate it...yet, like Whitner, he has his supporters! I think it is funny, the people who like him always defend him by saying he is "different", or is "too high brow" for the usuasl sports talk radio neandrathal (me, I guess!)....I think that is a crock of ****, and these people are just buying the snake oil that Cowherd is selling. He is terrible...to me he represents, as much as any one person in sports media, everything I hate about the modern "business of sports"...just a souless demon spawn of ambition and ESPN. The same adoptive parents of people like Skip Bayless. He is the worst... By who? -

I don't know...Whitner seems to be be pretty highly-regarded outside of WNY. I don't think it is just ESPN. Like most any DB, he has missed, but he also made some pretty big plays for the 49ers last year. -
a quick review of the short tenure of GM Whaley
Buftex replied to zazie's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Oh jeez...this reminds me of the old days, when Jim Lorentz was doing color commentating on Sabres games... he had a need, at the first whilstle (even if it was just moments into the game) to declare which team had the edge "so far". I like the Whaley hire, and I think those discrediting him, or passing "credit" (or whatever you want to call it) to Buddy for some to the moves since the season started are kind of under-playing Whaley's involvement. Understandable I suppose, but personally I think he had more of a hand in hiring Marrone than he did in the hire of Chan Gailey... Also, so far anyways (since we are declaring winners and losers before a meaningful snap has taken place) it looks as though Whaley made a good deal in swapping Kelvin Sheppard for Jerrry Hughes. Shep played better in this past weeks game, but was dreadful against the Bills. Hughes has been a defensive standout since donning a Bills jersey. Of course, I am mindful of how good Shawne Merriman looked in pre-season as well.... -

Could it be because her character is now on Walts' side? She has always been really good in that role. -
Bills ticket office would not sell me season tickets
Buftex replied to 17 Josh Allen's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not sure the reason for all the hostility toward billsareback. As much as I love the NFL, as time wares on, I grow increasingly disenchanted by the way the league treats its' fans. I realize, believe me, they must know what they are doing, because they make a **** ton of money.... but they treat the fans of their product like crap. And, for whatever reason, we keep coming back for more. -
This is what blows me away as well. So many of the draft "experts" just seemed to take it for granted that the Bills would draft Nassib, so many in fact, that everyone just seemed to go along with it....so, if the Bills did anything other than draft Nassib, it was considered a bad pick. I have no idea (still) if EJ Manuel will turn out to be a legit, franchise, QB...but this notion that "experts" seemed to adopt (because they are too lazy to do their job perhaps?) that the Bills would just make the most logical pick, based solely on the their new head coaches' relationship with a player is just silly. Really makes me think, more than ever, that these guys are all pretty much a sham...one forms an opinion, and the rest adopt it. Their "draft grades" are all based on the less than expert opinions of somebody else, not on the merits of the players themselves. Even if you accept that notion that Nassib can some day turn into a solid, if unspectacular NFL QB prospect, why would anyone think his potential to be a mediocre NFL prospect should trump Manuels un-refined skills and potential? If the two guys play to their potential, one has a much higher ceiling than the other.

It has become official...as much as I love this show, it is an hour of stress watching it....I give up trying to guess what will happen. Much as people seem to hate Skylar, I can't help but admire Anna Gunns' performance...she is overlooked here... -
Read somewhere, that he didin't want to work in Buffalo, not because he doesn't love Buffalo, but he wants to learn the finer points of coaching, and not have the distraction of being "Andre Reed- former Buffalo Bill, now Bills coach" for his first foray into coaching. Also, as a receiver, was excited to learn at the feet of the pass-happy Andy Reid. I believe he is taking part in the same program that brings Kevin Mawae to the Buffalo sidelines.
