If Nix thinks assembling a team of "Chris Kelsay" type players is the key to success then I think he is all wrong. I think Nix should head off to retirement right now. What a ludicrous answer! If you credit Kelsay with having a good attitude, good work ethic and good leadership skills in the locker room that is fine, but the most important thing I think is how productive he is as a player! He is not productive! He doesn't make anything happen on defense and he has been a key part of a defense that has been near the bottom of the league for several years now. What a disaster. The Bills are last in defense now and they give this guy a raise and an extension. How clueless is Nix? I would give him some credit if he said everyone must go, but he thinks the underachieving Kelsay is the bedrock and cornerstone of the defense. YIKES! WE'RE DOOMED!

What Happens when Ralph Wilson dies ?

You're half right about the mediocre team (it's worse than mediocre) and you are incorrect about everything else, but it sounds plausible to the uninformed. -
What Happens when Ralph Wilson dies ?
Billsguy replied to I hate the Bills !'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The wheels are already in motion. The NFL will approve the sale to a big money offer from Toronto. This is the NFL version of throwing Buffalo a bone. The deal has been discussed among the owners and the NFL for years now. Much of the revenue the Bills generate now comes from Canada. Forget LA, its the NFL dream to go international and this is the easiest first step. Book it! p.s. Jim Kelly was a great QB for the Bills, but he doesn't have a clue and has no chance of leading a group to buy the team and keep it in Buffalo. -
I've totally had it with the people who think this is a good deal for the Bills. Is this Alice in Wonderland? Day is night and night is day? The bizarro world? It's like the league is pissing on the Bills nation and Bills nation is saying, "Great - we need the rain!" Are you people totally clueless? This is an admission of abject failure on the Bills part! There is nothing to be happy about here. What are the Bills going to get with a 4th rounder when they can't even draft a 1st rounder who produces anything? This is a new low in a dreadful series of events.
-
Okay so do we need to trade Lee Evans now?
Billsguy replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah, maybe they can stockpile another 4th rounder! Whoopeee! What a dysfunctional backwards organization!!! -
Everyone got what they wanted in trading Lynch...
Billsguy replied to Booger's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Here's the headline everybody seems to be missing, " Bills waste another 1st round pick!" This is an admission that the Bills have no idea what they are doing. Anyone who thinks this deal represents progress is sadly mistaken. This is an admission of total organizational failure and that is nothing to be proud about. The Bills are indeed a national joke and they earned the reputation through horrible ownership and management! -
You wonder why the Bills suck? Draft a bust in the 1st round and then trade him away for a 4th round pick and consider it a good deal. This is how you build a loser! Now maybe they can trade Lee Evans for a 5th rounder and really get happy!!!!!

For those who defend Ralph Wilson...
Billsguy replied to Toledo Bill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think a lot of fans are missing the point. Regardless of Wilson's mental capacity and regardless of his cheapness, he's been in the football business 50 years and he has been a huge failure. He makes really bad personnel decisions and the team suffers proportionately. He spends a lot of money on players so in that sense he is not cheap, but he is not wise because he spends the money poorly. Is it cheap that he just re-signed the useless Kelsay for $6 million per year? Was it cheap that he gave Derrick Dockery $7 million per year? No, but it was certainly not wise! You can argue that he had all his mental faculties in the 70's and 80's but he still made horrendous decision after horrendous decision. His record of failure is monumental! The only blip in his NFL failure streak was the era of Bill Polian/John Butler/AJ Smith when the team accumulated some top notch talent. Even then he let Polian leave. He is the root of every problem with the Bills. It's not about who the next QB savior will be, but rather who will be the new owner and in which city will the team play. -
Like a previous poster mentioned, there are no good schemes for crappy players. Likewise, there is not enough talent to overcome bad coaching. The Bills personnel on defense does not fit a 3-4 defense. The organization is run by clowns! No talent in the owner leads to no talent in management which leads to no talent in coaching or players. The Bills could be a classic case study in how NOT to run a football franchise. I can picture Detroit's own Ralph Wilson talking to the Detroit Lions owner over lunch discussing how to screw up a football franchise for the last 50 years. What a disgrace to the fans of the Buffalo Bills!

I watched Kelsay closely today and ...
Billsguy replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is the trademark of this organization: 1.overpay to keep the unproductive players nobody else in the league wants at that price (Kelsay, Lee Evans) 2.let the players leave who are wanted elsewhere (Pat Williams, several CB's) 3.sign the castoffs and journeyman who can't make another team (Cornell Green and many others) 4.sign free agents past their prime looking for one more big payday (Marcus Stroud,Spencer Johnson,Langston Walker, etc.) 5.draft very badly in round 1 (Erik Flowers,Mike Williams,JP Losman,Donte Whitner,McCargo,Lynch,McKelvin,Maybin) What a disgraceful list! Ralph Wilson hired the bums who assembled this mess of a team and they elected him to the Hall of Fame. What a joke! -
Kellen Moore is better than all of them. Boise State.
-
Bottom line on this whole situation: this is a dysfunctional organization! Nothing changes until Ralph Wilson is no longer the owner.

To All Jason Campbell Lovers
Billsguy replied to daveydanceswithwolves's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
First of all, he got killed playing behind the defective offensive line in Oakland led by the inept Langston Walker (who was deemed superior to Cornell Green)! No QB will succeed with a really bad OL. It doesn't matter who it is. If you couple a bad OL with a questionable QB and seriously sub-par receivers then you have a recipe for disaster! (i.e. Buffalo Bills) Seriously people its not the Bills QB's fault that the line and receivers are weak. -
No More Anger Towards The Players & Coaches
Billsguy replied to BuffaloBaumer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ralph Wilson is the root of the problem. Period. He is responsible for hiring capable people and he hasn't done it. I agree with a previous poster who said you can't lay blame on a bust like Maybin because it was not his fault he was drafted so high. The clowns who draft bad players are to blame and ultimately they were all hired directly or indirectly by Ralph Wilson. Ralph Wilson has been a failure and his organization and team reflect his failure. There is little or no doubt in my mind that the Bills will never again taste success until the Bills have a new owner. It is futile to blame untalented players for their lack of ability because the owner and managers blundered in hiring and selecting mediocre talent. The cycle of hiring mediocrity for a 3 year cycle and then repeating it over and over again is all Wilson's fault. Fans are missing the point if they think that drafting a franchise QB will solve the problem. The problems run way deeper than who is the next QB. In fact, it won't matter who is the next QB until the ownership changes because the mediocre coaching that this owner continually hires will spoil and waste any new talent that is acquired. -
Sullivan is just reporting as he sees it. Get over it. What is he supposed to say, "The Bills are great!" Don't kill the messenger who is entitled to his opinion. His opinions are more on the mark than the drones who think the Bills deserve more respect with positive upbeat stories. They haven't earned one ounce of respect. What the hell is there to be upbeat about? The worst team in the league gets no respect. Period. The Bills stink to the high heavens and a lot of "head in the sand" fans are blaming the reporters! Get a clue!

I read several Bills players say that they didn't execute well against the Packers. It reminded me of former Tampa Bay coach John McKay who was known for his colorful quotes. My favorite one is when he was asked what he thought about his team's execution he responded," I'm all in favor of it." The problem with the Bills is they don't have the talent. Ownership talent, management talent, personnel talent, coaching talent and player talent. The owner hires the people below him so he bears the brunt of the responsibility. Ralph Wilson has only hired a few capable people in 50 years and he let them go. The most notable group being Polian/Butler/AJ Smith who built the team into Super Bowl contenders. Wilson has continued to hire on the cheap. He has a history of hiring guys with proven records of mediocrity and then he seems surprised when they produce mediocre to poor results. Just look at the list of hires since 2000. This team will never excel under Wilson. It's too late. He just doesn't get it. The team needs to hire people with proven records of success. This is the only way to acquire talent in all the necessary positions. Fans can blame individual players all they want, but they would be missing the point. It's an organizational problem that is deep-rooted from the owner on down. The players and coaches may not have the talent necessary, but I am sure they are trying their best. The problem is the organization that assembles the talent is seriously deficient. It's not about who should be the new QB or new offensive lineman, but rather who will be the new owner.
-
I've said it all along that if the offensive line doesn't improve dramatically it won't matter who lines up at QB or RB or WR. This leads to my next point: hypothetically if the Bills are drafting in the top 5 next year who should the Bills draft: a QB or an offensive lineman? Everyone who says QB just doesn't get it. CJ Spiller will be a wasted pick behind this line. Lee Evans has been a wasted pick behind a bad line. Marshawn Lynch and Trent Edwards are wasted picks behind a bad line. A good line makes average players good and good players great!
-
I don't believe Kelly. Maybe he thinks he's got the group of investors, but I'd say its a long shot at best. The Bills have a better than 50% chance of landing in Toronto. The NFL is not sentimental. The NFL is all about the money and they see big Canadian dollar signs in Toronto. A huge percentage of ticket buyers are already Canadians and the NFL would love to expand to such a large market. $$$$$ NFL $$$$$
-
I suspect the same arguments will still be relevant in January. I agree there will be a huge turnover as well, but will it be for the better?
-
Are you referring to the Bills moving to Toronto? It is almost a sure thing so everybody better get used to the idea.

News Flash: The O-Line Played Well Today (sans Green)
Billsguy replied to Got_Wood's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Bills' running backs -- Spiller, Fred Jackson and Marshawn Lynch -- gained 38 yards rushing on 14 carries. Who is responsible for opening holes for these guys? Is that Trent Edwards fault also? What constitutes a poor performance by the OL if this was a good one? BTW, I watched Langston Walker play for the Raiders today and he was absolutely horrible. He almost got his QB Campbell killed numerous times. The Raiders think he is a better option than Cornell Green. What does that tell you about Green? The bottom line is that you build an offense and a defense from the lines FIRST. The Bills were happy to pass on all the top OL's in the draft. Why was CJ Spiller called a luxury pick? If OJ Simpson couldn't produce anything with a bad OL I don't expect any miracles from Spiller and it's not his fault. In addition, the QB has to hold onto the ball too long if the receivers aren't getting open. There is a price to be paid for keeping such a young inexperienced WR corp. -
Can somebody tell me who is going to rush the QB???
Billsguy replied to John Cocktosten's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bruuuuuuce! Remember the days 15-20 years ago when the Bills had some talent? This team has little. -
Agreed. A couple hundred diehard message board fans are not reflective of the community as a whole. This micro-community has a distorted view of reality, but it makes them feel important and relevant. Maybe this explains how slighted everyone seems to feel around here about any article or commentary either locally or nationally that criticizes Buffalo or the Bills. The Bills have lost all relevancy to 99.999% of the population, but they are very relevant to the upset commentators on this message board. I learned a long time ago that being a dedicated fan involves using both your head and your heart. A lot of people only use their heart and therefore are hurt by every little criticism even though the it may be completely justified.

What's with all this AFC East Toughness BS?
Billsguy replied to TC in St. Louis's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
OK, just for fun answer the following question so that at the end of the year we can go back and check it. Which team(s) in the AFC East will have a worse record than the Bills this year? All those at TBD feel free to go on record too! See my answer below. .
