  1. 2nd biggest winners... Journalists that cover team! He will be the anti- marrone!
  2. dont need Crabtree, but i DEFINITELY think Iupati is very realistic and would fill our biggest hole (outside of the obvious QB situation)
  3. This is a very solid round up. He provided the O with weapons and built a dominant D. Also to add.. His in season pickups also paid off. Firstly, at the time, wasnt Marrone UPSET about him signing Orton????? Then when we were in need of kick returner , he gets us Thigpen who was great down the stretch and Bacarri Rambo who was the best 1 hit wonder on the yr on this team! I have alot more faith in Whaley and him being groomed in Pitt system than Moron who was an offensive line coach who took what was deemed a solid OL he inherited from Gailey and it became a huge weakness. Remember in his 1st TC he was talked about running just as fast a pace O as Chip Kelly and we were getting off plays as fast as them but what did our O do with it????? He came from Syracuse as on "innovative offensive coach"????? Where was that AT ALL in his tenure here??? He took a STUD RB and former 1st round pick and RUINED HIM! So happy Moron is gone and the REAL Doug is still here.
  4. LOL exactly... I still dont understand how as fans its SOOOOO beyond obvious and that to win football games u NEED your best players ON the field. On offense, coming into yr we were very deep at RB and had young and upcoming WR's that could have been dynamic if given SOME oppurtunities. However, we constantly saw Chandler, Gragg and Smith on the field together which means u give the D nothing to worry about down field. The running game could have been a weapon if we used our RB's properly and guys like M. Williams could have been productive and Goodwin should have seen more time on field just to pose a deep threat to give D a guy they know, if a coverage is blown, he could score from anywhere on field. Our personnel wasnt built to be a "3 TE vanilla O... Bad QB play or not... U need to give your best weapons at least some CHANCES to make plays for you. Especially when u have a D that you know can keep u in games. Most teams dont have that luxury. We did... Anyways, at least its over and i literally think nearly ANY candidate is better suited to guide this team as long as they have EYES and see who their best players are and USE THEM!!! RC
  5. Gase is not running the same O Peyton did in Indy. Much more innovative and also... just by being around Manning gives him more knowledge than being a long term OC... Thats VERY valuable experience he;s got in Denver.
  6. 500+ yards vs Mich St. after huge yr. Has ideal size, great accuracy and has arm to throw deep. Hopefully this game doesnt move him into a 1st round grade cuz he is the only QB with chance to start as 2nd rounder that could possibly land to us. With today's game.. hitting those deep balls and quick reads. I can easily see him rising to #3 QB overall which could mean late 1st early 2nd rounder. He is slated to play in senior bowl and have very strong feeling he shows he can be WAY more than a "system guy" like others before him. I've loved this kid since last yr and was really rooting for Baylor to make playoffs but cant say i'm dissapointed watching this game vs Mich ST. GREAT matchup! PS- Like him better than Cook (even tho Cook is staying in school for another yr)
  7. My thoughts exactly. At least we now know for a fact we arent gonna stay status quo at QB (not that it was likely anyway, but this ensures we sign/ trade for a QB with experience and dont make same mistake as last yr and go into TC without a vet .
  8. We SHOULD... if u are going to win with a D oriented team, u must be able to run the ball and not go 3 and out every drive. With QB market limited and nothing close to a sure thing, maybe getting a stud RB and signing a vet OL and use 2nd rounder on a guard
  9. I agree... OP is right. Coaches dont coach to "their guys" strengths... they try to fit them into THEIR system. Smart coaches, coach their teams based on the teams personnel. As it stands now. We have a ton of speed on O. Woods isnt the burner that Sammy or Goodwin are, but could still be a solid #2 in just about any system. Chip Kelly has won with Nick Foles and mark Sanchez.... Philly will be a SCARY team once he actually has a QB that HE wants, not just "who was out there". However, his O's still strike fear into every DC they face. They lose their #1 WR.... no biggie, they get Maclin back from serious injury and O doesnt miss a beat. Meyer would be the perfect coach. He got very worn out with the college system before and led him to being ill and needing a break. I think bring a College HC is more grueling than NFL simply cuz even before season ends, recruiting is already under way. It's non stop for them and constantly running all over the place finding the next blue chip prospect. Meyer may be opened to NFL and want to see what his style of coaching can do, (especially after Kelly has done so successfully making his chances a bit easier and will be much more accepted among NFL franchises who used to think these kind of coaches fizzle out fast in NFL like Spurrier etc.) I dont think Buffalo would be a tough sell to Meyer either.. He will inherit an elite D and plenty of talent of the skill positions on O. His job would be finding the right QB to make his O work.. You bring in 2 spread oriented QB's to duke it out for starting gig, and obviously, with system that requires a QB to run a bit, this can lead to injuries so having a back-up QB which similar skill set is crucial. I for one would LOVE for this to come to fruition. The Bills ATTEMPTED to do so with Marrone but in terms of resume , there is absolutely no comparison as to what Meyer has accomplished season after season, for a good ammount of years all in different type of schools. Bowling Green and Utah were not "high profile" jobs like his gigs in Fla and Ohio St. Doubtful it would ever happen, but its great idea.
  10. Carden kinda reminds me a bit of Andy Dalton. Him and Petty are the only only QB's who i can see being possible NFL starters outside of Marriota and Jameis (who i think will be a bust but will be drafted top 5). Hundley is worse than EJ, Mannion looks like a lesser version of Mike Glennon which isnt saying much. Carden could probably be had in the 3rd round and think that would be a nice spot to grab him and develop him behind a vet. There is no way with our D, we can start a rookie and possibly waste another yr of a dominant D. Going to get harder and harder to KEEP guys on this D with type of production so many guys are having. We must get a QB who is ready to come in and win from day 1.
  11. Cutler is by far and away the best QB available this offseason. Even if we had a 1st rounder, it would be late teens and only QB with elite talent and has right attitude is Marriota. And even with Marriota.... Would we really want to endure a rookie QB with the D we will have???? We need basically a modern day (more pass orientared) version on Trent Dlifer was to that Ravens SB squad. Cutler may have his question marks but if he came here and knows its his last shot at "making it" and with tough coach like Marrone (hopefully a new OC) who Jay can actually learn from. Not some doof he;s practically same age as in Hackett. Even though are skill position players are not Forte, Bennett, Jeffery and Marshall.. Not many teams do but he do have A LOT of talent outside and hopefully we add another target via FA or draft. With our D, i'd take a guy like Cutler who when is on... is on fire. I know he's stunk this yr and hopefully he learns from it and has chip on his shoulder. If we were to get compensated as well with let's say a 3rd???? i'd take it in a second and trade that 3rd and our 4th and try and get another 2nd rounder. This team has VERY few holes... Problem is, our biggest hole is half the battle... a darn QB! u cant be a contender with what we got and from what will be out there, Cutler is the best. We trade for Jay, sign FA and draft OL in 2nd or 3rd and re-sign Hughes and extend Marcel (at worst, exercise team option on him even tho it may cause holdout).
  12. If Hughes could get re-signed for that price tag Doug Whaley and co. would have to teach seminars on contracts! Hopefully it can be at worst, 4-5 yr at 10 mil a yr. This wouldnt be a cap killer and he would get what he deserves. I just hope he isnt greedy cuz as good as he's been, so many other things factored into his success like the DL around him. Might be a tricky negotiation.
  13. I truly hope that;s the case. It HAS to be a blast playing on a D like this, that's making so many plays. I know we will be looking for huge money and as u guys mentioned, he doesnt really "owe us" but staying in a situation where u have studs up front along with u to take the pressure off and make your job a lot easier. I guess it is wishful thinking on my part hoping he takes a bit less to stay here but hopefully Pegula ante's up cuz we just have to keep this DL in tact. We have the cap space, i'm just worried some owner like Snyder, or Jones offers him 14-15 mil a yr. I know he's been great, but i do not think he is "elite" and if we has a teams #1 rusher without strong supporting cast, he could be a huge bust somewhere else. In Buffalo, he has the safety net with a D that will be intact for hopefully next few yrs and can be part of something special.
  14. Keeping this DL intact along with somehow figuring out what to do at QB next yr. In regards to our biggest FA who will command huge money in the open market. Do u guys think there is any chance we takes a little less to stay in perfect situation (on D) and most likely still get a monster deal from Bills prob in the 10 mil a yr range. We certainly have the cap room and as many have pointed out in other threads, if u factor in the cost of the front 7 not just DL, it averages out properly. I'd much rather have the superior talent up front and have younger, less expensive LB;s. As good as Ray Lewish was, the yr or 2 before Ngata got there , he was taking on alot more blocks from OL rather than having DL eat up the blocks, freeing him up to clean up. Bradham and Brown have been outstanding this yr, but a HUGE factor in that is the success of our DL. Having Marcel and Kyle in the middle. (team will no doubt either excercise rookie contract option to keep him or re-sign him to extension) to go along with Super Mario on 1 side and is just a beast and living up to his contract. Hughes as the "speed" rusher from other and we have the best DL in NFL. If Kiko comes back and is even close to as good as he was last yr, we could have a dynasty level D for a 4-5 run.... Of all the guys out there who SHOULD give a team a bit of a break to "keep team intact" its Hughes.... He is a hot head, pre season fights and all that junk.. takes some bad after the whistle penalties which are the most killer cuz it had nothing to do with play. Not to mention, Whaley and co. taking a chance on him, and turning him from 1st round bust label and blossoming into a star cuz Bills "saw something in him" where in Indy he was an afterthought and didnt fit their D. I dont think Hughes is on the level that is categorized "Elite" D. linemen. Mario is elite, Watt is elite, even Dareus at this point has to be in that discussion. Those are guys that can go to any team and make plays. I think Hughes benifits from the talent around him and is a bit undersized but has excellent motor and is solid vs run despite being under sized. If he were to go to highest bidder and has to be the "lead guy" i dont think he would be nearly as successful. His long term value is in Buffalo even if the money isnt as big cuz if he stays and gets 4-5 yr 10 mil a deal rather than lets say 12 mil on open market and possibly play for a team like Wash (purely meant as example, not speculation) who tends to pay big $ and still screw up. In this day and age NFL contracts are written in pencil anyway! Deals are re-done and guys get cut sometimes just 1 yr into that deal! Staying in Buffalo just makes the most sense from all facades. His still gets a very rich deal. Stays in a KNOWN situation and knowing team has rest of the DL under contract for few yrs has to be huge factor. As much as these guys love $$$, they need the success on the field to KEEP the money coming. He can easily continue racking up great years alongside Kyle, Mario and Marcel and his next contract will be a big one as well. Him leaving for a few mil more risks him going to an new situation. The Bills got him for NOTHING cuz the Colts figured this guy was useless. We turned a "1st round bust" hybrid DE/ LB who seemed lost in the shuffle.... To a pro-bowl level player. I just hope both parties come to agreement to keep him here. This is the closest we have been to building a contender. This team needs far less fixes than any team in playoff drought years. Re-sign Hughes, extend or use option on Dareus.. sign AND draft a guard and find a new OC and then FIND A DAMN QB!!!!!!! I've been a big backer of Cutler even after his dreadful season and even after his awful performance the other night. Marrone is a tough coach and think Cutler has been around too many coaches that coddled him. The kid needs a reality check and with the right OC, and our D, if he could get motivated to reach even HALF his potential, he would be the guy who could lead this squad the post season. Fire away!!! RC
  15. exactly... He may not win us a superbowl, but he would be able to get us into the post season which would feel like a super bowl to any Bills fan in their 30's and up who have watched us in this awful drought. I'm 34 and been die yard since 89 when i started getting really into football. But never in my adult life have i got to see a playoff game... I'd fly anywhere in the country to be able to see a Bills playoff game... Being realistic, this was the 1st year in a while that we truly HAVE the team to be a playoff squad minus that 1 KEY component.... an NFL. There are only so many true franchise QB's out there... and without a 1st round pick we will be severely shorthanded with assets to trade in this day and age where u see far less player/ player trades. Of all the QB's that may be out there, he;s the best. He can make all the throws. He may not be Rodgers or Luck, but there are really less than 10 guys that are true franchise guys. Many teams have QB issues but not many have the supporting cast we do.
  16. Chi doesnt have the D we have... What i'm saying is that Cutler is a much better QB than we got in Orton. He doesnt miss the "easy" passes. Has the arm strength to throw deep, and has the balls to take risks. However, with our D, and hopefully Cutler having a chip on his shoulder to prove doubters wrong... He wont need to be "superman" out there cuz if he plays just solid, we will have 2nd half leads and can lean on our D and he has the talent to make all the throws. He can look bad at times, and even though Chi has alot of talent at the skill positions, they know to win, they have to lean on the O.... Here, we can lean on the D and with a QB that actually posseses actual talent... Can be coached into managing the game better (which is also ALOT easier when u have the lead in games rather than getting down 17-0 out of the gate and knowing your D cant stop anyone like in CHI.
  17. I would think it would fall into the same kinda situation with Chad Johnson/ Ocho Cinco scenario where from a merchandising standpoint would be not allowed by league. I remember Chad had to wait till end of season for them to have his name on jersey be ocho cinco OR he had to personally buy all the "chad johnson" jerseys left on market. A mid season number change would seem like a similar situation but that's just my opinion...
  18. After back to back 10 sack seasons and the emphasis on pass rush to slow down these high powered O's... he's gonna get at least 10+ mil a yr and considering he's still pretty young, possibly a 6+ yr deal
  19. If we even have a CHANCE at Harbaugh, we MUST do this.... I never agree with Buffalo Barbarian, but he;s on the money with this one. We must re-sign Hughes, avoid a holdout with Dareus (which could be issue with ammount of $$ we have already tied up in DL with the Williams duo, Hughes would get large deal..) Would be great to have him accept the the Bills picking up option on deal and try and re-sign him the next yr so we could use that money on getting "Harbaugh type guys".. I'd have a lot more confidence in Harbaugh controling things over Marrone and he would certainly want major input on personnel decisions which Marrone did not. That was just up to Whaley. This coming off season will be the first time we dont have major "needs".. A frachise QB would be a dream come true, but fact is, at this point, its just a dream cuz of the no 1st rounder and there are only like 10-12 in the league to begin with.. Harbaugh would manage games alot smarter than Marrone with a guy like Orton and not have these boneheaded time management issues and will install a much smarter rushing attack. No matter if we re-sign CJ or not, we will be deep in the backfield and can always find a gem in the rough in 4th-5th round that can easily be productive. With 1 GOOD FA signing at guard, and using draft smartly, even without a 1st rounder we would be in very good shape. Sammy being a 2nd yr guy and can really break out. A rushing attack that could be a great RB committee and hopefully a fixed OL. Question will be... what it would take to get Harbaugh on the Bills sideline...
  20. There are 4 teams stacked at 7-4 coming into week and Miami still lurking like us at 6-5.... If we beat Cleveland, we beat one of the 7-4 squads and SD plays Balt who r both 7-4.. Another good thing is how the AFC North is all 7-4 or better... with division games upcoming there, some of those teams will fade too... WE MUST WIN!
  21. They were clearly playing Zone D the way Gilmore was backpeddling... it was not man to man and all i can remember was seeing AW VERY late in trying to come over but the ball was already thrown and Decker could have walked into end zone. IMO, that was the play of the game.. We mismanaged the clock right before that and should have used more clock ensuring our drive was last of half and if not for Vick overthrowing him, that would have changed the entire landscape of game. These plays quickly get forgotten when we win by such huge margin, but the game was far from over at that point and our clock managing still baffles me at end of halves.
