That will never happen. All of the other three major sports employs a great deal less players and although they have guaranteed contracts, it’s not a 53 or should I say a 69 man roster including PS. These owners love this cap as it’s a hard edit, and a hard cap. There are certainly manipulations in Terms of cash over cap, and converting roster to signing bonuses. The owners don’t want exemptions as that is less profit, and they expend a ton to buy a franchise. They get incredible tax exemptions, but they also expend a great deal of cash.

Andrew Brandt is one of my favorites in terms of the business of the NFL. He used to have a weekly stint with Ross Tucker each Wednesday morning at around 6:30 am EST. He was always so informative evaluating and educating the NFLR audience on these topics. He’s the farthest from the hot take uneducated POV. An attorney and former business guy for the Packers forever and now with so many outlets, he’s like EF Hutton. When he talks, I listen. Thanks OP for sharing.

You get one player this offseason…who is it?
machine gun kelly replied to McBean's topic in The Stadium Wall
Round, I’ve been banging this drum for a bit once I heard the Fish were letting him walk. Yes, he’s not a blocker. We don’t need a blocker, we need a weapon. Grab him for contested catches and we have our 12 personnel. We have our 21 with Cook and Hines. We can get our top 11 personnel by drafting a speedy WR in the 1st round, then 2 Guards. Take the first 3 rds. and later maybe a safety. For the love of God no more CB’s, DE’s, or RB’s. -
We’ll agree to disagree as there are some who either don’t understand nor possibly with McDermott’s defensive philosophy, and per DVOA we’ve had to #1 defense for awhile. Part of that’s is finding depth and developing of which McBrane has done both. Offensively he did the best he could to keep improving the line, and hit on Dawkins, Morse and I believe in Brown. His back and neck injuries kept him from year 1 to year 2 when it’s critical for a lineman. Most linemen grow over the first three years. Knox was developed over three years, Diggs was the equivalent of a 1st RD pick who was not the same in MN, and was a 5th RD pick. Single tart was developed to be an effective RB, but took time. Cook showed signs in the 2nd half of a budding, explosive RB, and with motor probably testing the market Hines increasing his role in 23. Does he need to do more with less or restructuring a number of contracts to signing bonuses to extend who we want like for them Tremaine as they believe in him. Given in 17 Whaley was fired the day after the draft and Beane magically was immediately hired, if you don’t think he and McD had a plan on the DL, that had nothing to do with Whaley. They just can’t ever acknowledge it as breaks league rules. The man was just GM of the year voted on by his peers. I’ll take their opinion over fans anyway if the week. It’s not like the pro bowl popularity contest or top 100.

There is always a way to manage the cap if you have the will. The cap is exploding not necessarily this year but will catch up next year to pre Covid expectations. We’re up to $226 mil which is behind the expected increases. Next year there has been predictions with the new tv and Amazon contracts as well as European $ up to $256 mil., then will hit $300 mil in the coming years. The new CBA coming at the end of the decade will score us whether you like it or not an 18th game. The point is Allen restructuring salary to signing bonus would get us healthily under the cap. If they go in on Diggs and Dawkins, we’d be fine and could get one free agent of note. If the talent is there I can see a world where Beane moves up and we go from 6 draft pics to 4. Im not saying he will, but he can do it if he believes he has the talent in hand. We definitely need a talented WR and two Guards. It’s also a deep TE class. The crappy thing is not having Avon for probably 2/3 of the active season maybe making it back by November. My suggestion to newer guys on the board, not the Wiley veteran TBDers, to use Jimmy Johnson or other draft value charts and add up the points about suggestions moving up or down. im not there yet as I’d like to see what happens in FA. Once we get past the first wave, we’ll have a better idea of options Beane has for the draft. This narrative of Beane being a poor drafter is not true. It’s the business season now and I’ll drag up the Polian comments as it’s still salient to this conversation. Most people on this board who are old enough to remember Polians drafts here and Carolina and Indy knows he was a master at the craft. Hes said year after year on NFLR late hits on Wed nights his lifetime hit rate for drafting is 57%. 57%! Put that in context when thinking of Beane. If you look at Ron Wolf along with Polian, both wearing Gold Jackets, I might add, and Beane just won two years ago GM of the year. Given his peers clearly voted him as the best GM in that year, he’s not a poor drafter.

We need a better interior line, more dependable weapons than just Diggs. We have our pass catching speed RB’s so check. We have a number one WR and TE, check. Davis is an ok 3rd WR, but he needs to spend the entire off season developing his route tree with Allen and Palmer. Palmer can do more than just coach QB’s. They need someone to throw to and Davis needs the development. Now 2 Guards, and #2 WR with a. High draft pick and lastly, convert a number of salary to signing bonus and pick up Gesecki. I know he doesn’t block, but we want weapons. Make this offense undefendable and over power and crush you’re opponents. Pull a line from this guy. Honestly, I was just trying to weave this classic line. Gotta love a little Conan crushing enemies lines on a Sunday morning.

Howard Simon "Winding down" from WGR
machine gun kelly replied to CountDorkula's topic in The Stadium Wall
Personally I’ll wish Howard continues on a one hour contract a week if Howard Picks the Bills on Tuesday mornings. That would be fun. he’s a great guy and a staple. The criticism needs to be tabled, as he was good for Buffalo and made me want to listen to WGR 30 years after leaving my beloved home on South Park avenue. -
When you think of Dobler, also think of Deacon Jones. He single handedly changed the rules as he was famous for the ear slap to the ear hole. Supposedly before they recorded sacks some group counted 36 sacks in 14 games. He just was placed as tough, not cheap.

Don't think "WR2" in the upcoming draft. Think WR1.
machine gun kelly replied to Roundybout's topic in The Stadium Wall
AJ, I get one a month. Ok I’ve hit my limit for February. My concern is there a top flight WR in the draft. I hope so as we can’t afford a FA. -

It’s rare I have time after 5 am to chat on a weekday, but I’m sitting waiting for a doc so I couldn’t agree more Gesecki is the TE erosion of Hyde and Poyer where they weren’t used properly by their former teams. They shined here. If they convert Diggs and Allen good portion of their salary to signing bonus we should not only be under the cap, but should be able to afford a TE. They don’t get paid nearly what a top WR would get paid. These two are just big and fast WR’s. -

machine gun kelly replied to Roundybout's topic in The Stadium Wall
It’s semantics. Suggs doesn’t turn 30 in til November 13th so basically 2023 is still a 29 yr old. I’ll agree with you we need the best receiver we can get in the draft and if he’s worth it even trading up. 2-4th rds should be 2 Guards and a Safety. You can get very good Guards in the 2nd and 3rd rds. I would also place a bid on Gesecki for the 1B TE. We’ll have our 2 pass catching RB’s in Hines and Cook, 2 pass catching TE’s in Knox and Gesecki, drafting a top flight WR, 2 Guards and a Safety. This is a dynamic offense with a solid line as Dawkins, Morse are solid, Bates and Boettger are fine for depth along with Bates, and I still believe in Brown. He was injured all off season and linemen take 2-3 years to develop. His back issues sidelined him all off season. -
You go good times. I was at a wing sports bar through the 1st quarter. Had a ball joking with a couple of friends. It was fun especially as my sister flew down for a week and brought me a 4 pack of MT Beef and Cheese burritos. I unapologetically ate all four of them as the only thing I ate yesterday.

you actually watch the halftime show. That’s the bathroom eat a whatever time and let your significant other talk to you for a half an hour. I’ve conditioned mine to talk in commercials only. I could care less about halftime. Just don’t talk during plays. My sons know th drill and are the same now. They shh me until the huddle. I actually love it as they are NFL truists. Both were excellent football players younger.

So I waited to respond to these threads as I was waiting for the final injury report. Pretty much almost all of the players made it back to practice except for Covey is still LP meaning questionable. I’ll guess the lines of the Eagles are too much as dynamic as Mahomes can be, and it will be…. Eagles 31 Chiefs 28 It will be a dynamic game where there will be lead changes and goes to the wire. This is going to be one heck of a game. It should be fun.

Hey Paizan, I hope you had a nice week. I promised when not going bananas with work I would respond, especially for a true blue Bills fan like you. I’ve hit the 50 mark, have three wonderful children, Ian- 24, Ryan- 21, and Lauren- 19. All are in college and working. My oldest in finance, middle in PT, and youngest in culinary school following their hearts and minds. I was a licensed psychotherapist for awhile in the 90’s with the masters, post grad hrs and supervision for three years. Converted to Pharma, med device, biotech and mgmt for 10 of the 20 years. I loved football playing, then coaching, wrestling, and then a national level Powerlifter for 16 years. It was fun as I had the deadlift national record for a couple of years, but that was a very long time ago. Now, I’m just a divorced guy for a few years, have a nice girlfriend, lift 6 days a week and enjoy church most sundays. My Irish catholic dad is still kicking at 92 as I’m a whoops with my siblings much older. My eldest works for the Sabres. My other just retired as a director for the Wegmans. My dad goes to church 6 days a week and loves his Bills and Sabres. We can always pm each other for more or call me as I left you my Cel. Good topic brother as I’m going to sift through as I’d like to read through some of these profiles. Chandler is up in max so he and I talked off line about catching a game this year in O-Town (Orlando) so maybe next year. I know there’s a few of us here in Florida so maybe if other central Florida guys read this msg, we can coordinate off line a sports pub in Orlando for a 1pm Sunday game. I’m sure we can find a Bills backers bar in Orlando as it’s halfway between Tampa and Jax. paizan, you’re a good dude and you love our mutual team. That’s all all of us ex buffalonians can ask from somebody not from Buffalo. Im glad you chose us! you’re mafia now. Whenever you want to show your Italian friends mafia, just show some of the YouTube clips of us. They’ll think we are nuts (and we are and wouldn’t have it any other way) Ive loved the Bills and that’s never changing and I mean ever! I bleed red, white, and Royal blue. Gi Bills!!! -
I love Josh, but Mahoney was better. Allen and Mahoney both made mistakes in 21, but somehow Mahomes mistakes in those early lost games was overlooked. Allen needs consistent play and getting at least to the SB to get serious consideration. Besides, MVP is not his be all endgame, it’s a ring. He can do it if Beane finds him the talent, and he makes the most of it. I added in another thread, one pick up worth restructuring a couple of contracts to signing bonuses to get Gesecki. His market value is $8.3 mil. Per and he’ll probably take a little less to be on a SB contender. We finally picked up Hines and Cook on the pass catching RB’s and can potentially let Motor walk. I like motor, but it’s dollars and cents. So there’s your 21 personnel. We already have some of the 11 and 10 personnel for the last few years. We wanted with Howard to get an effective 12 personnel. Knox and Gesecki would be a nice tandem for 15-17% of the time. Big pass catching talent especially in the red zone. It’s been talked to death needing a 1st RD WR or at least in the 2nd. Our first four picks in the draft not in this order needs to be a WR, two Guards, and a Safety. That’s what this team of hits will end up with success. I’ll add Gabe is a solid #3, and Shakir will develop over time. We need a true #2 who has breakaway acceleration. Gabe is fine in speed down the road, but not out of the gate at the LOS. We then would have 10, 11, 21, and 12 personnel groupings which is what McBeane has wanted all along. Stud Guards would also help not only in pass pro, but in the run game. The interior line always helps the most in the run game while the Tackles are so important in pass pro.

Daboll/Hodgins - Does their success bother you?
machine gun kelly replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall
Virg, I’m happy for Dabs and Hodgins. We lost out on Teller, and now on Hodgins choosing Kumerow. Dabs was going to get a HC job at some point, so no. If anything bud, it’s a compliment to McBeane for hiring and helping with the development of Dabs. I’m happy for both of them. Would I have liked Teller and Hodgins, yes, but Beane doesn’t have a crystal ball and they should never hold back on a coordinator getting a HC job. What I think we should take a peak at and can’t believw I'm saying it as I’m normally not that guy is Gesecki. They already wanted another pass catching TE. His market cap value on Spotrac is $8.3 mil. As a referrence Milano’s was $13.75 mil prior to his contract extension and we paid him as everyone knows was $11 mil. TE is a good position in FA as it’s not as expensive, they obviously with Howard wanted a 12 personnel option, but didn’t work out. We secured in trade and the draft two pass catching RB’s. We would be more dynamic as an offense. The WR we can take with a 1st RD pick. Take Guards in the 2nd and 3rd. Safety in the 4th. -

And thennn, and then, and then, and then. Dude where’s my car was so funny. I couldn’t resist. Ridge can’t have all the fun. As far as firing Beane, dude you really need to hold off on the day drinking, or on Bruce’s case, the ganga. Just kidding Bruce. You know I luv ya. My weed smoking buddy. -

No worries my friend. You let me know when the weather improves. I already talked to my oldest and he said he’d be honored to help a fellow Paizan. His mom is a Bonaventura. Real Irish huh? 😇 -

My Paizan friend, I’ll respond later, as I have a crazy week, but that’s a nice question for the board. I’ll read these posts as it tells a lot of each of us. I just don’t want to sell short to you as I’ve offered to show you how to catch a football including a zoom call. I know a bunch of the guys would do the same. On that point, I think the best thing I can set up for you bud is having one of my oldest sons housemates zooming with you one weekend and we’ll play catch and we’ll show you. Ian was an excellent QB in his youth. I was his coach to begin his career. well pm and see if we can make that happen maybe next weekend. Besides I’d love to see your family. Btw- Ian’s I think 30% Italian American. I’ll reach out on you’re question this weekend.
