Basically, the story of the Miami Arena is as follows. The NBA announced that Miami could have a franchise in approximately 1985 on the condition that an arena was built and that the prospective franchise had a certain number of season ticket deposits. The ownership group convinced the city to build an arena and that it would be satisfied with an arena that was patterned after the old Houston Summit. In other words, ownership said that it would be satisfied with a no frills arena. The arena was built and was patterned after the Houston Summit. By the way, it was a great place to watch hockey and basketball as a fan -- not that that seems to make any difference to the ownership of sports franchses anymore. After ownership got the franchise and the building was built, the Miami Heat started complaining that it was not good enough (eg., quality and quantity of boxes etc.). Both the Heat and the Panthers wanted new arenas. The tax payers in Miami-Dade built a new arena for the Heat and the taxpayers in Broward built a new one in Broward. The fact of the matter is that old arena was great for the fans and under any set of circumstances, it really did not make financial sense to build two arenas for these teams. Both of the new arenas do not have the intimate fan experience of the old Miami Arena. Both of the new arenas are fairly antiseptic.

Good call. She also is one of my favorites.

Or Earth, Wind, and Fire. Shining star for you to see, what your life can truly be.

I do not know whether anyone has commented on this, but you have to give the guy credit for at least not trashing the Bills while he was out or now. We have all seen players run off at the mouth while holding out. Peters, by contrast, was as quiet as a church mouse. We are only better with him on the team. If you have any questions, watch the Bills/Giants game from last year and compare our pass blocking before and after he got hurt.

Very nice choice. I also would add: Classic beauty: Grace Kelly Present beauty: Adriana Lima All three (Grace, Adriana, and Melissa) have different looks, but all are what I consider to be the epitome of beauty.

Tom Brady has cracked bone in his foot?
Peter replied to Golden Wheels's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Florio (PFT) made an interesting observation. This is bad karma catching up with the Pats and their insistance on running up the score on teams last year. Because they left Brady in games for so long, Matt Cassel missed a lot of valuable playing time. -
How dare he say that we are the team to beat in the division. The nerve of that guy.

That is funny. I was there and had the same reaction when I saw the UB score flash. As for the Hurricane game, I could not help but feel sorry for Charleston Southern. The Hurricanes tried desperately to get one of the top 50 teams to fill that slot, but they all refused to do so. The Gator game should be an interesting test.

edwards will be the next brady/roethlisberger
Peter replied to robert's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I did not miss the point. I was responding to a post that took issue with my statement that Walsh was correct a lot more than he was wrong. I think that three super bowl wins would demonstrate to even the most cynical (pun intended) people that Bill Walsh knew football. I find it odd that we are even debating this. It seems that some people feel compelled to take shots at one of the legends of the game because it fits in with whatever view they have of our QBs. -

Bill Walsh: Three Super Bowl Wins -
edwards will be the next brady/roethlisberger

According to this, Bill Walsh (who was a 49er consultant at the time) advised the 49ers to take Plummer over Drunkenmiller. Walsh did not advise 49ers to draft Drunkenmiller You also may recall that Dwight Clark was running the draft for the 49ers at the time. Regardless, Bill Walsh was right much more than he was wrong. -
I loved the way Jabari played last year.

Demetrius Bell looked pretty good
Peter replied to Buffaloed in Pa's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Great post. By the way, I read that DB had never played football on any level before 2005. I am even more impressed with the guy. It would be nice if he sticks and develops into an outstanding player. -
Apparently, St. Louis brought him in for a physical. It will be interesting to see if he passes.

Wade is a great guy with a great sense of humor. He also has the highest winning percentage of any Bills head coach. As I have said before, Ralph should have never fired him. I realize I am probably in the minority regarding this. While we are at it, Ralph never should have fired Bill Polian. He should have gotten rid of Jeffrey Littman instead.

At least he knows how many states there are in the United States. -
Usain Bolt is on Performance enhancing Drugs

I thought the 100 meters was impressive. After watching the 200 meters, I thought what he did in that race was even more impressive. He dominated the best and fastest sprinters in the world. It was amazing. One of the things that makes him great is that, even though he is tall, he can get out of the blocks and get up to top speed and then take advantage of his size. -
Well said.

He was a dick. The commentators thought so too. He offered nothing of any substance that would help her. It seemed like he was trying to make himself look important (as if she would have won if only she had listened to him about the "grinder" etc.), but instead sounded like a dick. He should have congratulated her for winning the silver in her first Olympics and finishing second to the best female pole vaulter of all time. She should fire his ass and get a new coach.

At least he did not do this I am only half joking. You are correct about Phelps and we all would like people to act like they have been there (e.g. in the end zone) before. I am not a big fan of people acting arrogant. I would rather that athletes act like Nastia, Shawn Johnson, and Michael Phelps. Yet, however Bolt acted (part arrogance, part exhuberance), it does not take away from his dominating performance. He was a man among boys against the best sprinters in the world.
-
Watching Bolt run in the 100 meter finals (as well as the preliminary heats) has been one of the most impressive things I have seen in the Olympics. The guys is amazing. He wanted the gold medal and got it. He had to beg his coach to let him start running the 100 meters about a year ago. He is 21 years old. He acted like a lot of 21 year olds. That does not take away from his performance.

MISSING PERSON'S ALERT FROM THURSDAY!
Peter replied to sleaky72's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I have not watched the Steelers game yet -- except for the first couple of series (I recorded it). As a result, I cannot comment yet on how he played in that game. I can say that I was a disappointed in how he played in the Redskins game. There were a couple of plays in particular. There was one play where he was very tentative in filling the hole. Instead of taking on the blocker, he tried to finesse it. The play that was the most disappointing was when Portis scored at the goal line. It seemed like Portis wanted to score more than Poz wanted to tackle him. I really hope that this was a learning experience for him. We need him to plug holes -- especially on the goal line. The jury is still out. I think that he is going to be good. Nevertheless, he certainly is not immune from criticism. -
Someone please explain the Roscoe Parrish lovefest
Peter replied to Adam's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You are exactly correct. By the way, last year, I posted a link to a site that keeps stats on % of catchable balls thrown to wide receivers. The facts showed that Roscoe caught a higher percentage than Lee Evans. -

I thought the same thing. Nevertheless, he looks like we have three very good returners now with McKelvin now on the roster. -

Good for Hardy. That is why he was drafted.
