All I can say is that it's just not the type of contract you're gonna see in this market and under this ownership.
-
I do agree with the approach of going after guys that man the lines. I just don't think it was realistic to expect us to land Hutch at the price he came at and the situation. It was almost a foregone conclusion that he was going to stay with the Seahawks at the time. That's not to say we shouldn't pay good money to an available FA lineman. It just isn't reasonable to expect a team in this market to pay out a record contract like the one Hutch received. Spikes is not the highest paid LB in the league (is he in the top 10?) , and he has already produced prior to his injury, and hopefully will produce close to that level again. During the draft, I had no issue with the Whitner pick, but thought that when we moved up back into round 1 it should have been an O-lineman FWIW.
-
Go ahead and disagree. That's a ridiculous contract for an OG (highest paid lineman in the league IIRC?) and will hamper that team soon enough, unless of course the cap skyrockets another 10-15 mil every year.
-
With Bentley I know that because He publicly stated that he wanted to "go home" and play for Cleveland. With Hutch, you should know already that the Seahawks were raped by the Vikes on a contract clause and he was hugely overpaid, even cosidering the quality player he is.
-
On who? Sure they could have re-signed Clements. Other than that??? Neither Bentley or Hutch considered Buffalo one of their stops.

Shhh... Good teams are made up of stars, and how could you forget this? Remember the 90's dude? Role players have NO part in building a good team, especially role players who in reality make average to below average salaries compared to their peers. You , as a team, are NOT to address any apparent team needs with anything but top end starters. never mind that the team will be 20 something million under the cap to start next year either!

The speed comment has something to debate about atleast. I'll give you that. The part about contact almost made me fall aout of my chair

This is possibly the most outrageously misinformed, blind and retarded thing I've ever read on this board, and there is some stiff competition.
-
-Reyes is cleary an upgrade over Bennie -Tripplett has been average and of course you've gone the extra mile to claim worst FA DL in the NFL. -Price.. He has made some plays and shows more toughness than I remembered. Needs to stretch the field more. Hasn't really been unable to do anything asked of him so far. Losman- funny you mention Brees Bowen- who knows OL - Fowler and Reyes both Fa's and both better than the guys they replaced.

I love the Peters move. He has been playing very well and it makes sense to have your best and most athletic tackle protecting the Qb's blind side. I had been wondering when they were going to do this. -
Do you seriously think those two plays (over a"whopping" 7 yards) make it a fact that the run D didn't play well? Ok they weren't GREAT, but you would discount the entire rest of the game? What does your question about winning % have to do with the simple breakdown of how the run D played? This is how the run D played: NE - 27 carries, 94 yards 3.5 YPC By any account, that qualifies as our run D playing better than it has in recent weeks.
-
The guy also had the angle on Willis. Willis showed great burst for the first 40 yards on that play.

I simply do not like the scheme for the talent

Good points. I'm not saying that we are capable of running a successful Press-Coverage only scheme as much as I am responding to the idea that we utilize it a lot, or even a 3rd of the time. I think there are some very obvious third down situations where you can see pre-snap that the opponent is going to run a slant or short hitch approach to get out in space and underneath our umbrella coverage with plenty of room to wiggle, and we do nothing to respond to this, other than sit type and try to come up after the catch and make a one on one stop. -
Thurman Thomas talking about WM...

That's good to hear... -
It pains me to admit it , but flea was absolutely right about the play of the D-line yesterday. I won't get into the O-line side of the argument, although they played ok. You referenced a couple short running plays that succeeded, and a short TD pass. How does that say that the D-line didn't play well? It doesn't. Kelsay, penalty aside , had his best game as a bill stuffing the run and generating pass rush, as did AS on the other side. They were pretty stout vs. the run all day on the inside too. It's too bad the LB's and Db's all pretty much had sub-par games

How Perfect Was The "Ref" Fumble
34-78-83 replied to Buffalo Baumer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agreed... And Kelsay also played the game of his life yesterday. He was a monster against the run like I have never seen from him before. Generated a good consistent pass rush too. I was actually happy with the DLine yesterday. Now the LB's and DB's on the other hand.... -

I know what press coverage is Pyrite and we do not utilize it except for on VERY rare occasion. My guess would be that there hasn't been press coverage on more than 15 plays so far this season. -

I can't remember the last time this team used press coverage on more than a handful of plays in a game. -
Players who I thought played well today: Reed Willis Royal Kelsay Schobel Clements Peters Lindell -Everybody else contributed more to losing than winning the game.
-
Maybe then we would be "realists" as opposed to Rose-colored glasses wearing chumps who are "always wrong"
-
Theres no reason that any of these three need to go. It would be nice, however, to somehow come up with a very good/great DE to throw into the mix here and make for a fine rotation.

When the Bills get you down...
34-78-83 replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think he was speaking more relatively... as in: If the Bills were an 11-5 / 12-4 contender, there would be WAY more interest in them than in the Sabres, even considering the absolute brilliance the Sabres have displayed of late. For every Hockey fan around here, there are 4 football fans. This, again, is not to take away from what the Sabres have accomplished... -
That IS interesting. It's probably just me but I have been getting the impression from Nall that he is unwilling to accept the 3rd string roll he has been dealt here. He was a guest on the Lee Evans show yesterday (you can listen on WGR's website...part 3) and he gave me the impression that he still feels sorry for himself and feels somehow that he wasn't given a chance, in spite of his injury. With all that said, I take those ESPN rumors with a big grain of salt.

The lies being sold over at OBD.
34-78-83 replied to LevysEraII's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You are wrong on nearly all accounts (coaching payroll aside). The premise alone that you are being "sold" something, as if you were being swindled is absurd. The Owner has not been a cheapskate for over 15 years re: players. You are blind if you have not seen dramatic progress from JP.
