Way too much analysis going on here to the point of nausea.... Alpha, your overall point is actually correct but not necessarily for the statistical reasons you state, many of which are bogus ways to evaluate an individual player and can only be valid if you're discussing a team as a whole, or at least an offensive unit. Basically , (and look for yourself people) if I'm not mistaken, when Trent plays well , the Bills have won every game in his 2 seasons here. I believe the attempt Chris Brown made was stating that when Trent has an above 80 rating , the Bills haven't lost. -
Because you're talking about a 2-deep zone, not a cover 2 defense, which invloves D lineman, gaps, positioning, underneath zones, etc. etc.

Big Big Hitter.... Made some truly explosive open field hits. Other than that, made lots of tackles. More of a run stuffer but did ok covering in short areas underneath. Injured often after a few very solid seasons. Blue collar guy.. As good as Paup and Spielman were, they only visited here for a bit. Conlan was a Buffalo Bill.

no it doesn't. Maybe you can review this a bit more: Cover 2

Dead on The hit would have been in Willis's chest of he didn't lower his head way down at the last second. Definitely no fine.

The evidence is really starting to pile up

While I agree 100% that Kelsay needs to be replaced, do you really believe your own statement? Do you also believe that the college national champs could beat the worst NFL team? Because they couldn't and might not even score a point. These NFL players like Kelsay are guys who dominated every level of sport they competed in to get there. -
Bruce, Andre and Ralph make the HOF cut

It's a lot simpler than all that to me. In the "Reed era" which could be considered '87 to '93 or his "prime years", it was all about Rice in the NFC and Reed in the AFC. Most football fans that were of age at that time all recognized this. And being at every one of those home playoff games really nailed it down that he was a superior receiver. I will not waste any time worrying about a guy who spent his prime years playing in a dome, or some other guy in a run and shoot offense. I look at players and how they play on the field 1st and foremost and it was obvious that he was elite by simply watching the guy play. Run after catch wasn't even a term til he and Rice made it something. Rice even claimed one year that Andre was the best receiver in football. -

Come playoff time he was one of the most consistent Bills players ever. Playing mostly in cold, windy, wet at snowy conditions he amassed these paltry numbers Playoff #s . Hallmarks like the Cleveland game, the comeback game, the Miami shootout blizzard game, the list goes on and on. His playoff production far surpasses almost any other receiver in history except for a select few... He was not always the most well liked guy by the media, sometimes for good reason, and the team not winning those superbowls is the only thing that didn't get him in last year over Irvin. -

I'll balance that accurate point with the fact that Reed is still probably the best and most fearless WR to ever 'cross the middle' from a career perspective. He made his living there. -
Let's hope the Bills finish 4-12 or worse in 2009

Ralph is not even close to cheap when it comes to players, so what's the point again? -
Best QB since Kelly? Bledsoe Best Football Player that happened to play the QB position since Kelly? Flutie Trent ain't too far behind where Bledsoe was either. This was not Bledsoe in his prime mind you.

That's an excellent post pacpie I think coaching plays a huge roll in a guy's development at QB as does utilizing his strengths and masking his weaknesses with your offensive scheme. Of course it also helps to have real good pass protection . One Guy I think that would have been a real good player was David Carr. I think he just took way too many shots with that young team and was thrown to the wolves far too often early in his career.

Man the O-line is getting a lot more flack than it deserves these days. Sure we should draft a C and probably a G in free agency but they've been solid since the Cleveland game.

Don't see how he "struggled" that much. Not following... Best SEVERE elements performance he's had by far.

A Few Thoughts About The Game (and the season)

Personal JP vs. Trent battle aside, the statement is true, and would have been true if Billy Joe Hobert were playing QB. -
Ok, forget Spagnuolo, let's hire Schottenheimer

We were honestly quite surprised with how well they ran considering the Pats stacked the box and knew what was coming. Quite a good sign actually, but I suppose I'm always finding silver linings when the overall picture looks quite dreary.
-
Not at all...The holes were there. Especially early on. They're not gaping holes like you see sometimes but they are legitimate running lanes. I can recall atleast 3 times early in the game yesterday where the tv camera focussed specifically on the area and you clearly get to see 1- the C take the NT to a side, 2- Chambers Seals the outside and 3- Dockery (who did have a poor game overall) Seals the inside. This allowed Freddy to squirt through for good gains. Freddy and Lynch are amaizing YAC guys too, but you should be used to seeing absolutely no holes for the Bills runners from our recent past and this is different. The biggest difference by the way is their ability to get a surge or push on short yardage situations. Big difference from earlier in the year.
-
They've been a lot better ever since the Cleveland game and it's not just Lynch and Jackson. The main two reasons as I have seen it are Butler coming back and getting healthy and Duke improving on his technique and aggresiveness (Which led to a bad moment yesterday but nonetheless). It's ironic really, my father and I were just commenting to eachother on how surprisingly well Duke was handling Wilfork. He was steering him wherever he wanted him to go and opening lanes to run through... Then came the braindead scuffle at the end of the half that he got suckered into. Sure it's cliche to say that all these guys suck, but they really have been playing quite good for 5 or 6 games at the end here. Even in 2 of the games where there was no real threat at QB.
-
what would you rather see the bills draft
34-78-83 replied to Drew026's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree that Duke has far outplayed Fowler and has played pretty well toward the end of the year. He had a huge mental F-up today and has some other flaws still though. #10 is too high for a Center usually anyhow in the draft. I'd like to see one taken in the 2nd or 3rd at least though. -
A Few Thoughts About The Game (and the season)

Oooo k. I didn't know he was supposed to be Jimbo in his prime now? I was just saying he payed a pretty good game. Anyhow, The previous play never got in through the QB Mic due to our inept coaching at the time so Trent had to get the call from the sideline. His job after the play you mentioned was to get the F off the filed, NOT back to the line of scrimmage. The kicking teasm was coming on. This was worked on in practice as he and other players mentioned in theor interviews. So if Trent is a failure today for not running back and yanking Preston out of his scrum with 6 Pats players then so be it. -

You're talking about Trent but you are evaluating the Bills offense as a whole. This is a common inconsistency in message board discussions. I am talking about Trent and no, I still feel Dockery cost that sack, FF. It's not like 4 seconds had run off and he was outside the pocket. He took the snap, took a very short drop, stepped forward and was hit from behind. Sure I suppose Big Ben wouldn't have fumbled there but most probably would have. -

Trent did make significant plays today both with his feet and completing passes for 1st downs. He wasn't perfect by any means but if you were waiting for even a 15-20 yard pass down the field, especially into that wind, you weren't going to see it from either QB. The running game ruled the day today. Do the same people also think he didn't play a very good game last week? I am beginning to wonder....
