“Like they have done to this team for 3 years in a row now.” Yeah, I read it. Wasn’t germane to my point, but if it makes you feel better, I read it. -

Might be worth it just for the sheer entertainment value of all the exploding heads around here. Or what? -
What good story did Allen’s college numbers tell about him and to whom? From all appearances they told a bad story to the pundits who believed what those numbers said and their opinions were based entirely on that bad story. The story was obviously wrong; a lie if you will. Lies, damned lies, and statistics. Twain was right.
-
Per the bold text, that’s exactly my point about educated guesswork. The punditry lacked that insight and so in that sense, the stats lied to them in a huge way. We can agree to disagree on lying stats, but imo, they lie a lot if people make wrong decisions based simply upon them, which was the case with Allen, obviously.
-
Allen’s statistics were interpreted seven ways to Sunday by everyone and their mothers. Turns out, those numbers lied. A lot. I agree entirely about guesswork. But there’s guesswork and then there’s educated guesswork. The pundits simply weren’t educated enough about Allen when they made their guesses.
-
Lies, damned lies, and statistics. The only question mark about Allen that mattered was his sheer inexperience at the game of football in general and at quarterback in particular. Luckily, he possesses the intelligence and aptitude to compensate. And he’s gonna be that much better when he finally figures it out.

I finally found some time to look at a few of his highlight videos and they made me think of your post about high-pointing because in all of the plays I watched, I didn’t see him high point one ball. Not saying he can’t, but he hasn’t shown that, and at 5’7”, I question whether he can vs. NFL corners. Saw him make a few great body adjustments to make a catch as the DB whiffed, though, so he has that in his bag of tricks. The more I watched, the more I agree with that scout who sees him as a slot guy at the next level. He’s tailor made for it with his change if direction skills and speed. I can see him as our new McKittrick.

I don’t remember Kelso being that fast. -
Another good lesson for this young group, who really made plays all night and were rewarded, unlike the previous two vs. Boston. And UPL goes from having a .000 save % to being an undefeated NHL goalie. Nice. And F Taylor Hall.
-
Always sucks to lose to the hated Bruins, but I couldn’t ask for a better test and evaluation tool for our team, especially the young guys. The Bs are a matchup nightmare for most teams, let alone a poor team like ours, but that said, the big difference in the past two games is goaltending, our anemic power play, and the poorer play of the vets (I’m looking at you Sam). Our younger players continue to get quality chances and I’m glad that they are being used in all situations so we can see what we have. They’ve also been far more effective against the Bergeron, Marchand, Pastrnak line. UPL in his debut tonight and its a good bet that it will be another Boston route. But I don’t care. I need to see continued positive development by the young players and continued effort, regardless.

Gabriel Davis - Post TD Celebration

Gee, I don’t know. The all knowing, self proclaimed smartest people ever when it comes to football have stated in this very forum that Josh Allen is incapable of putting any air under his ball at all. Ever. -
Yes! With Borgen in for Miller, the final third of the trio of suckitude has been benched! Thank you, Don Granato!

Regardless, the boundary acts as another DB and can be limiting to some receivers, especially against pro DBs, which is why a scout might make mention of it. Speed is a great thing to have in a receiver, but the world is littered with super fast WR prospects who never panned out.
-
I’m not saying you’re wrong at all because until he’s asked to run boundary routes in the pros vs. pro CBs, we simply won’t know definitively. But I wouldn’t dismiss the scout’s concern, either. That sideline boundary acts like another DB out there and some guys just aren’t cut out for it, regardless of how fast they are.
-
Too many missed opportunities tonight. And against a great team like Boston, you can’t afford that. And F Taylor Hall.
-
Just occurred to me that today is 4/20 and our goalie’s nickname is Toker. Sabres in a romp tonight.

The end of excuses for defensive draft picks
K-9 replied to Playoff Win's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yep. It’s pretty standard language in contracts around the league. That’s not to say that some players don’t have other language regarding selection as a pro bowl alternate, they might. But I’d bet that’s the exception to the rule. -
Donnie G is hearing my calls! First, he sat Irwin and tonight he’s sitting Eakin. Finally! Now, just sit Miller in favor of Borgen and we are good to go.

You have company, but there doesn’t seem to be a lot of us. I get the impression that unless a player is constantly making eye popping plays, then people are missing the subtleties of the game. How many times does a guy make a great play simply because the players around him did their job? I submit it happens far more than we often know.
