Jim Johnson was McD’s mentor. Where’s his defense?
NewEra replied to oldmanfan's topic in The Stadium Wall
Timing has a lot to do with it. Coming up big when it counts. When it matters most. Our playoff wins are against teams we were clearly better then. Facing teams that were underdogs against or on a level playing field- this defense is 0-4 Come up big just once in 4 years…… that’s isn’t too much to ask. Leslie Frazier has been a DC for 14 years and has made 1 championship game. Prior to joining Buffalo, his passing defenses finished inside the top 10 1 time, when they were 9th. In 8 seasons he was in the top half of the league 2 times, when they did Uber 9th and 13th. Always in the bottom half in interceptions. in 8 seasons he was inside of the top 10, never. He finished 10th once. 28th, 21th, 12th, 13th, 10th, 18th, 25th and 26th. his results in Buffalo, coaching under a defensive HC on a team that has devoted the majority of its assets to his defense, has been much better. Until he gets brutally exposed in our finale. I just can’t overlook how truly terrible our D has been in the last 3 season ending losses. I don’t believe our coordinators have put our players in position to win the game (minus Daboll vs KC last year). Our d has been embarrassed and no one is held accountable. Like Mixon said, we ain’t Baltimore. I don’t think Frazier is a bad DC. I think he’s a very good coach. I just don’t think he’s a championship caliber coach and some of the players might be second guessing him. I don’t think he’s capable of stifling a championship caliber team in the playoffs. I think McD could be a championship coach, but he’s hitched his wagon to Frazier which could lead to next year being his last chance to accomplish his end goal as a Bill. -

Right. Just like both the offense and defense were completely out coached vs KC the previous season. And the offense and defense getting completely out coached a week ago. Yes, our D had their fair share of blown coverages last week, but the D played so far off the entire game. Looking at the game plan, I see coaching scared. Just like vs KC the previous 2 seasons. Literally giving them 5-15 yards on every play. I just can’t buy into it anymore. I don’t believe in the process on D. If our pass rush isn’t running rampant, the D is stale and has very few answers. -
Scouting coaching OL WR
-
Par for the course!! anyone have the low down on Jones? Can he pass block on the nfl level? He looks like he can be a special run blocker.
-
Yeah….. opposed to that
-
The bengals invested in the OL and failed. None of their success is due to their investment their OL. the chiefs spent more than most on their OL- we won’t even attempt to do what they did. And Mahomes is still running for his life vs the better defenses. but I hear ya. We’re currently 2B now, sitting behind 1A and 1B. Mainly because our OL is complete trash. Beanes biggest collaboration of failures on that side of the ball.
-
Oh I agree. Definitely hope Bijan is not the pick….but if he is…..what can we do except embrace it and hope it works out? Oh yeah, we can whine and cry about it for years….. great way to spend our one chance @ life.
-
Trade Ed for an “all pro” guard? 🤣 We won’t be that lucky, but that all pro guard will want 15-20M a year. Edit: sorry- I just don’t think adding 15-20M OL will be part of our plan.
-
I’d be good with it. Love Ed, but big decisions are on the horizon and if we can bolster our OL or Wr by trading Ed, I’m down.
-
Hahaha. Just a bit of trolling. He’s definitely not my preference but if he’s the pick, I’ll get behind it rather than spending my time crying about it. I’d be happy to have a possibly elite player at any position. At the moment, I don’t think any of the WRs that will likely be available will ever be close to elite. More like good WR2. I don’t know much about the OL prospects atm. I’d rather take a RB in rd 1 than take a Poyer or edmunds replacement. If the WRs or OL available aren’t 1st rd grades, I’d rather draft the potentially elite RB. That said, Beane usually tries to fill our biggest holes prior to the draft. Not sure if that will be possible this year, but I think we’ll have a much better idea of what we will and won’t be drafting come day one of the draft. If we shift some resources around and add some upgrades at OL and/or WRs prior to the draft, it’s anyone’s guess who we take rd 1. BPA at a positions the board detests drafting rd 1 will be in play.
-
Cut Hines. Hope that one of them will take a team friendly deal. If not, use that money on another position and bring back Duke and draft a RB mid-late. or Bijan 🤣

Name it after the Seth Rogan flick “This is the End!”

Bills Coaching Staff Changes Thread
NewEra replied to hellofellowbillsfans's topic in The Stadium Wall
I’m very confidant that he teaches his position coaches the way he wants the DBs coached. They play the way McD wants them to play. Not the way the S coach wants them to play. He may not coach them on the day to day. It his fingerprints are all over every one of our DBs -
Is it the drafting or the player development?

Mel Kiper is back and you won’t like it
NewEra replied to 78thealltimegreat's topic in The Stadium Wall
That was your point? Then do a better job getting it across next time. You said nothing of the sort. yeah…..my point was, there will we WRs in rd 2 that are similar to the WRs in rd 1- the value isn’t there unless you want to go up and get Johnson…..and that will likely cost us 2-3 potential starters worth of draft picks. We have very few resources except draft picks. Trading them away is a scary proposition. We need 2-3 Olineman. 1-2 WRs. Likely need a Poyer replacement. Maybe an edmunds replacement. Maybe a Morse replacement. Maybe an Ed replacement. Phillips and Shaq replacements. And we have how much cap room? But yeah, trade up. -

I couldn’t tell you right now. I haven’t looked much into the OL class just yet, but what I’ve read, it’s kinda meh Which WRs have a 1st rd grade on Beanes board. Please enlighten us: Look into the crystal ball and tell us which of those WRs will be available a couple picks before we select. I’m eager to know so I don’t have to watch so much tape -
Why isn't Frazier interviewing for Head Coaching positions?
NewEra replied to fasteddie's topic in The Stadium Wall
Same reasons he hasn’t been hired as a HC in the past. His past as a HC was poor. He’s old. His defense failed his team in season ending losses. I don’t see why anyone would ever hire him to be the HC unless it was a David Culley/Lovie Smith type hire. Placeholder -

Looks like solid WR2’s will be on the board when we pick. Trade up for Johnson? - mm or hope JSN falls? Hyatt, Flowers, addison, downs and Dell have speed. Rice and Odunze have size and explosiveness. parker Washington is a bowling ball rac guy. One of those guys should be there in rd 2. I’d prefer taking a WR rd 1 but I don’t know if the value will be there. -
On the surface- that’s true, but the basis of Fangios D is cover 2 shell to prevent big plays. His tinkering up front with different looks and stunts keeps the O second guessing. He plays a lot of 4-3 under Looking at our personnel, I don’t think it’s a 3 year fix. Ed (who might be gone anyway)and Rousseau can both play 3-4 end. Hell, Rousseau might be able to play SLB too. Basham and AJ are JAGS and won’t be on the team in 2-3 years. Von is at his best playing 3-4 OLB. getting a DC of his caliber is well worth a year or two of figuring things out. Our best SB window is closed. We’ll have many chances in the future, but next year isn’t a do or die season imo. Josh has several more seasons. Let’s right the ship NOW and retool with coaches that have the ability to win us a title. Fangio is the best in the business and worth an off year or 2 in the defensive side of the ball. It’s not like our defense ever comes to play when we need them to

Thanks Po!! Class act and a warrior that gutted out an entire season for his team. The injuries relegated him to just being an average safety and that must be recognized.

Can Sean McDermott Coach the Bills to a Championship?
NewEra replied to jethro_tull's topic in The Stadium Wall
Can he? Sure, if they give him 10 more years to try. I don’t think he’ll have that long of a leash. I think the question should be “will he?” -
That’s some nice wallpaper you have there!
