I think if they wanted Mayfield, they would have offered more to the Giants before the draft, on the assumption Cleveland takes Darnold. And if they wanted Darnold, they would have offered more to the Giants during the draft as Cleveland took Mayfield. So could be wrong but I think Allen was the guy. Agree the 2 concussions could have been a concern of Rosen. Also the concussion McDermott would have given him with a wicked backhand. ? BTW Im OK if Allen doesn't play a down this year. Let him develop. I trust the process! BTW I agree with everything you say after that first line ...

Yes, and they also love a) the work ethic b) the humble attitude and c) the laser focus on football. He is McDermott's dream pupil: huge upside, team player, smart, listens, ready to learn. Rosen: ready now but plays for self, smart but doesnt listen, thinks he knows it all. McDermott would have strangled Rosen before the end of OTAs, with cameras rolling. Would have been bad. Was Allen best QB in the draft? Well, he was best QB for McDermott and the Bills.

Rank Drought Uniforms
JOE IN HAMPTON ROADS replied to /dev/null's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
what is this obsession TBD has with the draught? Is this part of the healing process? Do we have collective PDSD (Post-Draught Stress Disorder)? Or is it just difficult to accept that THE DRAUGHT IS OVER? Let it go! And good riddance! Be free! -
100% agree with everything here. You can see it in their emotions. Beane is just GUSHING talking about how he got Allen. Darnold was probably the consensus choice but Beane had to know that if he wanted Darnold he HAD to make the trade for #2. Not doing that shows they had already settled on Allen, so if anything the gap was not large. As for Rosen, I can totally see him playing well for 3-5 years, claiming injury, and "retiring" to a second career making as much as he would in football without having to get beat on. If he does stay in football, I can see him going team to team, always asking for better compensation, playing well but never really gelling with the players or staff. Not a franchise kind of guy, either way.

good editing in journalism is dead. they just want to get something up on the feed. they don't care if its accurate. Not just ESPN, its WaPo, NYT, almost any online news source ... constantly using incorrect grammar, misspelling words, not matching graphics to text, etc. garbage. and no, I didn't bother editing the above, why should I? the "pros" don't.

2018 Season Record Predictions
JOE IN HAMPTON ROADS replied to gr8billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think McD finds a way to win with McCarron, until Allen is ready. Then we may take a step back until he hits his stride. So when Allen starts will have a huge impact on which games are W and which are L. Overall I think 9-7 again, hopefully we sneak into the playoffs. Next year I think we go 10-6 or better and make it past the first round. If Pats are in decline maybe we even win the Division. -
Projecting the Top 100 NFL Rookies of 2018
JOE IN HAMPTON ROADS replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think The Process is to have Allen ready to start next year. In that context, #34 of the top 100 rookies this year would be about right. -
omygosh that arm. That cannon arm. "the ball leaps out of his hand"... Give him top quality receivers and he will make the deep strike like we havnt seen since Kelly. He will be so exciting to watch. Maybe he throws some ducks and some INTs, he is also going to throw super long TDs, he is going to force the Defense to loosen up and defend the long ball and give Shady or whomever lots of holes to run through. I cannot wait to see this develop. "as a piece of clay to be molded, he is the best QB" (or something like that) ... and that is EXACTLY what McDermott wants. McDermott wants a piece of clay to mold into his image of the perfect QB. And he knows what that looks like. Add on top of his raw ability, he has openly stated from Draft night on that he wants to "work hard" and "learn" ... 180 degrees out from what Rosen has been about ... there was no choice to make here. The Process has been dreaming about Allen since April 2017. Make no mistake, they got their guy AND HE IS THE RIGHT GUY FOR THEM.

Maybe the Jills did not have it so bad....
JOE IN HAMPTON ROADS replied to Just Jack's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I was waiting for this ... When done right, Cheerleading is a bona fide sport. It takes talent, hard work, and can actually be quite dangerous. Having that as a part of the entertainment - at appropriate times (e.g., during TV timeout) - would be a positive for the NFL. Unfortunately, that's not the kind of "cheerleading" offered by NFL teams. Having grown women doing silly little dance routines is unnecessary, and ends up being annoying when the actual game is being played. I too am amazed the practice has survived into 2018. -
Turning Point for the Pegulas
JOE IN HAMPTON ROADS replied to napmaster's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
the turning point was when they fired Rex & Whaley and hired McBeane. -
young Jim was probably still legally drunk from the night before when he took it. It was a different era. Lots of people didn't take that kind of thing seriously. You didn't need to have a sterling record of standardized test scores to get into college, or to get a good job. Especially a future pro-level athlete. He probably treated it as a complete joke. He's a smart guy, as he showed on the field. Wonder what his score would be in this day and age. I'm guessing similar to Allen.

Mel Kiper's 2018 NFL draft grades (Bills #1)
JOE IN HAMPTON ROADS replied to papazoid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Guys, Darnold and Mayfield were off the board, it was Allen or Rosen. Allen is a project with huge potential, the difference between him and Rosen is Allen knows he has work to do and is eager to work hard and take direction. Rosen is more ready but thinks he knows more than his coaches and teammates and anyway hey its only football there are more interesting things in life right? Which personality do you think McDermott wants as his QB? Which do you? BTW I would have also been happy taking Jackson at 22 but he was not a #12 pick. So lets say Beane took a non-QB at 12 and Jackson was scooped up before 22 ... would have been a disaster. SO you see Allen was the best possible pick. Moving up didn't cost us that much and locked in a top 4 QB. Grade: A.
