You worded this much better than I did. -
Too all the Ralph haters
rockpile replied to Mini Max Anderson Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He is the owner so he must follow laws. With that caveat, he has the ability and right to do whatever he wants. He does not have a right to succeed but he HAS succeeded (financially) for over 50 years in this endeavor. He is most certainly entitled to either success or failure! I do not understand what you mean by the "entitlement culture" remark, as applied to anything I said. His age has already determined HE will be out of business soon. In our free market society, we do NOT value the individual, except in theory. Customer service is sadly doled out like a placebo from Nurse Ratchet. Losing Polian was one or RW's biggest blunders. -

John, the "hate" remark was in agreement with your statement " It is very unfair to categorize people who state the obvious about the caliber of ownership that they should be labled as "haters". Sorry if you read that as a personal shot (poor wording on my part). I do not think you hate RW. My brother, R.Rich always tells me it is not good to hate. Also, I do not endorse or support anything about the quality or competency of RW as an owner. I just was saying he does not have to tell US squat about his plans. As the owner he can do whatever he wants. A while ago, I started a thread that asked the question: what has RW done for Buffalo besides keep the Bills here? It was a football question in the football forum, and I was pummeled by the list of philanthropic things he has done for Buffalo. No one wanted to address my question from a FOOTBALL and CHAMPIONSHIP angle. I think it was about three or four games into the 2010 season. peace, rockpile -
What happens if you buy tickets and there is a strike/lockout?

Miami turned down Ralph Wilson in 1959
rockpile replied to DaveinElma's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There was only an opening in the AFL for Wilson because Minnesota, which was supposed to be one of the eight original AFL teams in 1959, was lured away by the NFL. ...but you all knew that, right? <grin> rockpile -
Too all the Ralph haters
rockpile replied to Mini Max Anderson Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He is the owner. That gives him the right to do what he wants. He does not need to care what I think, although it would be nice to think that in a general way he cares. He does not owe me the details of his will just because I am a loyal fan of his football team (since 1964). From my admittedly franchise marketing ignorant position, I could speculate that publishing future business intentions for his properties could compromise the value of those assets to his survivors. I could speculate whatever I want. I disagree with your opinion that "In general, no one can dispute the fact that Ralph Wilson is one of the most incomptent (sic) and ineffectual owners in the league" but you are entitled to it. Your opinion is as valid as mine. A brother of mine told me it is not good to hate. rockpile -
There is no doubt that cable and DSL are fighting to keep their customers by overcharging for a service like basic internet access, and then bumping up the price "just a bit more" if you take all three services: cable, phone, internet, as a bundle AND quite often a 1, 2, or three year commitment. I am looking for alternatives too since these services cost me about $150 a month and that is way too much money for the actual benefit it delivers to ME.

TBD Annual Home Opener Tailgate XII
rockpile replied to Just Jack's topic in TBD Annual Tailgate (TBDAHOT)'s Topics
Will there be a strike? Has anyone figured out a way to do a large group ticket purchase like the old days? Is Hammer's hosting the Pinto now too? No question, Hammers Lot is THE place to be. -
As of April 25, the grand total for the MS Walk this Sunday is $1,050 in sponsors and pledges received. We are $450 short of our goal, and the walk is this week IF you are able and want to contribute. My thanks to all!

PSA: Password protect your wireless routers
rockpile replied to Fezmid's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Some ISPs will walk through setting up your modem or router settings and security with you for free. The default installation disk may not provide ISP specific required data in all fields. This also deflects unnecessary and boring calls from tech support. ALSO even if the person using your modem for free is simply playing interactive on-line games, it is sucking up bandwidth that YOU paid for, and could really make your internet products - phone, netflix, multiple laptops, and wireless games run slow or break up completely. So give it away. -
Babyrock's "Rockpile" Team Raised $485!!
rockpile replied to rockpile's topic in Off the Wall Archives
For the Rochester Walk, my other three 'children' and five grandchildren, along with about a half dozen friends will be walking with me and Mrs Rock. -
I will watch at least a portion of probably 100 baseball games before the Series. 98% of the rest of standard cable is reruns or unwatchable, and I cannot afford the upgraded packages.. I have tickets to one game in the Bronx too. THAT is my annual pilgrimage.

I was happy to see The Stadium Wall step up and sponsor my daughter and her team. Thanks! I am over halfway to MY team goal of $1500, at $825. I am delighted by your support. Check out the thread pinned at the top of this page for a link to both pages. Babyrock's page has a picture of me and my brother from about 1972. It is a riot! If you are so moved and can help, please sponsor me in the fight to cure multiple sclerosis. Every dollar matters and no donation is too small. Thanks!!

Have sponsors for $500 SO FAR ~ Thank you (you know who you are)

During the last players strike, the owners fielded teams consisting primarily of non-union players and no one got a refund for the PBJ's. -
March Movies: Battle L.A., Sucker Punch, Rango....
rockpile replied to Mark Vader's topic in Off the Wall Archives
It is is hard to find a reason, especially at the cost, but I can find a good show to see every now and then. The last two I went to the theater to see were The Social Network and The King's Speech. Sadly most movies seem to be categorized (at best) 'wait for the DVD' or 'stream it'. -
Bayrock's page was up first, thanks for donating to her and when I got my act together, to me!

per PFT - point the decertification finger at Jerrah
rockpile replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It has been very difficult, if not nearly impossible, for the average family to attend an NFL game for a very long time. I had four children, so the choice was basically to take the family to a football game, tailgate, buy some souvenirs and come home, OR go tent camping for a week at a NY state park. That was even back when end zone seats were about $20 each and a non-electric campsite was $10 a night. Agreed - today Buffalo tickets are a bargain when compared to most of the league. Since all of the people who are heading the "labor dispute" likely make more money in a season than I will make for the rest of my life, I have no pity on either. As was said earlier, I enjoy watching NFL players in an NFL game. Go ahead and strike, I will learn to appreciate college football more. The players who were screwed played BEFORE there was a player's union. Many of those idiots played because they enjoyed the game. Go figure! -
Thank you! The response so far has been GREAT! <weekend bump>

It's that time of year where I ask my friends at Two Bills Drive to sponsor me in the MS walk. Since 2002, I have done the MS Walk every year, and TBD has been responsible for 90% of the money donated to the Natoinal Multiple Sclerosis Society to help those with MS, and fund research to find a CURE. The cumulative total YOU have helped me raise to date is over $9,000 ! This year daughter, Babyrock has her own walk/team in Connecticut on April 10th, appropriately named The Rockpile. I am walking in Rochester on May 1st with my team, Grovers' Rovers, to honor a friend. My team will be comprised of friends, as well as Mrs Rock, my other three children, and grandchildren! I know times are tough. In the last four years, I have been laid off, worked on contract, worked part time, and collected unemployment. I am fortunate to be employed again. The new career will not make me rich but I am learning new skills every day! Those who know me, also know I have multiple sclerosis. I am on a regimen of medicines that reduce the frequency of attacks, but there is no cure. I am not complaining! Whether you can contribute $1, $5, $10, or more, it adds up and it MATTERS. Sponsor Babyrock by clicking here: April 1st walk (bonus here is a good laugh at a photo of me from when I was a 19 year old 'hippie' Sponsor Rockpile by clicking here: May 1st walk About me: Since I was diagnosed with MS in 1994, I have been on a range of treatments to keep my incurable disease in remission. This means I have *fewer* attacks (aka exacerbations) to slow down progression of my MS, but I want a cure! I am walking in Rochester NY in May, and will try to walk in Connecticut in April. * I walk for those who cannot walk. * I walk for those who find going from the kitchen to the bedroom a marathon. * I walk for the less fortunate. YOU ARE MY HEROES!! I can walk, talk, work, see, hear, and live a normal life (normal from my perspective anyway ha-ha!). I can hug my kids and grandchildren. I can walk on the beach, enjoy a sunset, and hold hands with my lovely wife. GIVE if you can - A SINGLE dollar helps. No gift is too small, or too large, and all donations are equal in my eyes! *-) Remember: When MS hits you, it takes a chunk of you away, but when it leaves, it never gives it ALL back. Thank you. moderators - please move to off topic, sorry! moderators - please move to "off topic" sorry!
