OK, let's do this: Tyrod Taylor
fridge replied to TakeYouToTasker's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm genuinely asking, because you've been nothing but snarky and I can't seem to figure out your true opinion on the matter... How good do you think Tyrod Taylor is (compared to the other starting QB's in the NFL)? -

Since when does "throwing to 7 different receivers" matter more than third down % and passing yards? -
Are you on vacation? Maybe just skip MNF this time. Live life, don't let football consume you.
-
A lot of mental gymnastics are required to get people on board with Tyrod being anything other than an average or below average quarterback, sorry. I would like him to just take over a game for once and just shut everyone up. In order to do that, you need to take some risks, and I don't see that happening.

username checks out. -
In tennis, reaction speed is everything and quickness is valued more than just "speed". Someone like Rafa Nadal could never outrun an NFL running back in a 40 yard dash, but he has world-renowned quickness. Shady has quickness like I've never seen in the NFL to the point where I forget he has that breakaway speed. Spiller for example...all speed, no quickness. I much prefer Shady's style. Also, unless my quick fact-checking is wrong, that was the longest run of his NFL career.

Exactly. All QB's should be able to check it down. No need to pay someone 19 million to do that. I thought Taylor played well in the second half, but the inconsistency like you get out of the first half is maddening. He's still not leading players. He still does not throw a quick route to receivers within 5 yards of scrimmage and he doesn't know what a Tight End is. For every one unbelievable highlight reel run (he had a couple this game) he has three or four where he scrambles under phantom pressure to no avail. I'm more critical of Tyrod that most. You're more supportive than most. The truth lies somewhere in the middle, which to be frankly is still not very good. He's capable of randomly playing at an elite level like the Seattle game, but even then he had a chance to win it and we still lost. I'd like us to continue our QB search. I've seen this guy's ceiling. If we pay him 19 mill or whatever, which I understand is technically not a huge QB salary, what we're doing is committing for two years to a mostly flawed QB that has reached his full potential. I guess I'm beating a drum though...even though I'm taking the time to thoroughly explain myself every time it's been asked. It could be worse, I could be one of the guys that just posts, "he sucks." -

They were check-downs that converted into first downs thanks to a RB making the LB miss a tackle? -

Running for his life, are you serious? He has the longest time to throw in the NFL. What are you talking about. He literally has 3.5 seconds on average per passing play to throw the ball. What game are you guys watching where you don't see Taylor count to six mississippi with the ball in his hand? -

Keep banging that drum... We were losing 7-6 at the half to Jacksonville, at home. We started the game with back-to-back three-and-outs, and the only reason we ended up scoring at all in the first half was a tremendous punt return. We got the ball at half, and scored on the first rushing play. Tyrod was abysmal at that point in the game, yet led 13-7. I am really amazed that you watched that game and came away thinking that the QB excelled. He did enough to win it, and I really liked the throw to Hunter towards the end, but he was mostly below average all game long. Stats you carefully omitted: 166 total passing yards (less than 40 at the half) 5/12 on 3rd downs 7 passing first downs all game (three were dump offs that McCoy single-handedly got) -
Post something positive about the Bills - no trolling

We have a legitimate red zone threat in Hunter. Whether we actually know how to use him or not...that's for another thread -

I have a lot of trouble blaming Clay for his lack if production in this offense. -

No, you're right. There were many other, much worse plays. Basically the entirety of the first half. -
I honestly don't understand why the coach would be to blame for a lack of passing attack when the QB is constantly not throwing the ball on passing downs. I guess it's possible that the coaches could be responsible if their game plan is so conservative that they are celebrating Taylor on the sidelines for not risking it and throwing it away on multiple 3rd downs per game, but that feels like a stretch.

Will that person's job be to teach Tyrod the importance of throwing the ball on passing plays? If so, I'm all for it.

Chiefs vs Broncos....who the hell do we root for?

Pretty much this. A tie is only going to help us if we truly run the table, or both these teams go 2-3 and we go 4-1...it just seems like a lot to ask for. -

Wins is the first tie break...so if we were really trying to do something like run the tables, a tie is our best bet. If we finish with 10 or less, the tie could be insurmountable. AFC is ridiculously strong this year. -

A tie sounds bad for us initially, but... If they tie tonight and each team were to lose next week while we win, we would be only a half game back. From there on out, we would need to just win one more than either team to be ahead in the standings. -

I'm not completely convinced. John would have incorrectly inserted at least one seven period ellipses in there. -

Carpenter Wins AFC Special Teams Player of the Week
fridge replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Slow week for ST, so Dan slips into the award, but... maybe this is the little confidence boost he needs? He seemed fired up in Seattle, and actually drained that kick before they backed him up 5 yards unnecessarily. He was really confident in his first season with us, and I'd like to see him finish out the year with a hot streak and remove any doubt at the position. -

Even though the post you quoted is from October 30th...I stand by it even more today. Tyrod has yet to hit a receiver in stride on a quick slant. Every week people show him being unwilling to launch it to our players in one on one situations. His play safe mentality is maddening at times, especially when the team is losing late in the game. EJ probably isn't the answer, and I never said he was. I simply said I preferred his style. I would have loved to see him develop and think with some confidence and two more years of playing time (the amount he's been sitting behind Tyrod) there is no way in hell we'd be worse at the QB position than we are now. -
Busby's West in Santa Monica is an awesome time. If you're even lightly considering going, I strongly recommend it. Traffic is pretty light on Sunday morning anyways so just suck it up and drive 20 miles or so to Busby's.
