Great Fairburn story on Siran Neal
Happy replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He could add about 20 lbs to his frame and be the next Kam Chancellor. I'd guess that McD had multiple uses in mind when Neal was drafted, like playing in between the linebacker and safety spots to cover the medium routes over the middle. If Neal leveled Edelpunk, he would be my favorite player. -

Exactly. You can't squeeze blood from a turnip. -

Brandon Beane: The Art of a Deal
Happy replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The point you make about retaining and not trading top talent for pennies on the dollar is well taken and typically hard to argue against. If a team must trade top talent, it should strive to get a premium for them, I agree. In cases like Dareus and Lynch, I think the Bills tried to work with them and give them every chance possible. The problem arises is that if such players cannot, or will not, realize they need to shape up (both on and off the field) the team has no choice but to unload them at a discount. Other teams have pro scouts whose job it is to gather ALL information on the player, so any potential trade partner knows the issues regardless of talent and playing potential. So in the cases of Lynch and Dareus, no team was going to pay a premium on them due to behavioral issues. -
Brandon Beane: The Art of a Deal

I think McDermott's and Beane's point is that yes, Dareus was a good player and had talent, but he could have been even better. Dareus didn't want to put in the extra effort to be the best he could be, so it seems. They made the right decision in this case, after trying to work with Dareus, and does not appear that they took the decision to trade him lightly. -

By fire sale prices, I assume you are referring to Dareus. JAX is assuming Dareus' $47M cap hit during the 2019-2021 season. Plus Marcel was never going to buy into McD's system, so he became a headache no matter how talented he is. I don't mind getting rid of Dareus which will allow Beane and McD significant room to bring in guys who they want and will not be a management nightmare. So Bean may not be Negotiator of the Century, but he could be Roster Architect of potentially the Decade; time will tell on that. -

Richard Harrison - Pawn Stars - dies at 77
Happy replied to Just Jack's topic in Off the Wall Archives
^^^ Ouch. 77 is "Top of the line." RIP Old Man. He took a big chance and moved his family out to LV to make a fresh start years before the Gold and Pawn Shop. It worked out well. -

The old man was ok; he was at his best when he was supported by Chumlee or Rick. People watch the show to see what Chumlee says/does. There were some funny scenes with Chumlee and the old man. What I'll remember about the old man is he seemed to low-ball an offer, saying "top of the line." Side question: is it just me or is the book lady, Rebecca, hot? -
Sammy Watkins classes it up on his way out of LA
Happy replied to Rigotz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would think this would lead to Sammy being double covered more often. Beasley will also get his share of targets. -
Did Daboll do this in Alabama, and if so, was it successful there? I don't follow college closely at all so I'm wondering what his past OL blocking approach has been.

Julio Jones Trade possibilty?
Happy replied to dwight in philly's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm not a salary cap expert, either. But I do know that with just under $13M for 2018, there is no way we can afford a big splash free agent. I know you want to win now (so do I) but the reality of the situation is we will have to wait until next year when our cap situation is much better. McD and Beane will build through the draft first, and what they can't get through the draft, FA is the next step...possibly a big splash FA if he is the guy that will fill a major hole and allow the Bills to win now. -
Julio Jones Trade possibilty?
Happy replied to dwight in philly's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sure, since we have plenty of salary cap space. Got the below from here NFL salary cap: $177.2 million 2017 rollover: $11.58 million2018 Adjusted Salary Cap: $188.78 million All player contracts: $144.6 million Top-51 contracts: $125.9 million Dead cap space: $46.9 million Josh Allen projection: $3.5 million ($3 million on Top-51)Top-51 including Allen: $128.9 millionTotal salary cap commitments (Top-51 + Allen + dead money): $175.8 million Buffalo Bills current workable cap space: $12.98 million -
This sounds about right. Not a process guy, so he got shipped out.

Great posts with tough situations to consider. If Peterman and AJ are about equal through camp, and neither is completely awful, thinking about it both should be kept on the active roster; at least until the trade deadline. Of course Allen's development will factor in, where if Josh looks like the elusive franchise QB we've been waiting for, it makes AJ or Peterman expendable (hopefully trade-able.) I see @Hapless Bills Fan's point, Peterman's QB value could be close to zero, but we also don't know how desperate other teams may be for a backup. Clear as mud right now, indeed.
-
Exactly my point. If we stick Peterman on the PS, most likely someone will snatch him up. Some on this board are fine with that. My opinion is that we should try to get something for him, as you pointed out injuries happen and another team most likely would be interested. Best case scenario is AJ wins the starting job and does enough to keep the offense moving, though it won't be a powerhouse, and Josh Allen is a quick study where maybe Peterman gets traded. Again, perfect world scenario which AJ wins the job, stays healthy, and does just enough.

Julio Jones Trade possibilty?
Happy replied to dwight in philly's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No, too expensive. Then there is the money Julio will want. All things considered, I don't see how he'll live up to the trade deal and contract, even as good as he is.
