It's the game plan you run against crappy teams like the Jest. Known facts: Geno is a TO machine. You aren't going to run the same game plan you run against the Jest as the one you run against the Pats*.
-
I understand that. On the first drive the Bills passed 3 times on 1st down and ran only once on first down. Kyle Orton was absolutely killed on one of them by Coples and was flushed out of the pocket on another.
-
A note to the creative part: I think the run game was more creative, if you want to call it that, with EJ because of the read-option. Interesting stat from the 'Box O' Shout' (credit thebandit) on first down runs: Bryce Brown 5.0 YPC Boobie Dixon 2.45 YPC

With the OL the way it is and 2 RB's who haven't seen extended play time? I don't know how creative a running play can get if you can't run basic run plays. I remember the Bills running a couple end arounds this year to Goodwin/Woods and none of them have amounted to much.

I'm not a Hackpologist, but I'm not sure if some people consider the following: - The previous 3 weeks, the Bills have passed the ball 124 times and Kyle Orton has been sacked 13 times and hit 15 times. - The Jest were #2 in sacks going into the game. - Urbik had just taken over at LG. - The Jest defense has held: Denver to 221 yards passing, NE* to 260 yards, San Diego to 277 yards, Detroit to 270 yards, Chicago to 197 yards. So while I'm sure everyone is saying attack the corners, attack the corners, it's their weakness only 1 team has really done that, Green Bay. - A DL can be disruptive even when the CB's aren't very good. - 2 RB's who previously haven't seen as much action and would be required to do a bunch of pass blocking. Which Fjax said during preseason that they(FJ, CJ) had been working for weeks on it. While run, run, pass may not be a very exciting game to watch, it worked. For me, I'm not sure the offense has established an identity and that can be for a number of reasons. The offense was almost surely developed for EJ strengths and not KO. Now, I know some people will say, "oh just scrap it then", but I imagine thats a bit difficult to do when you are game planning for opponents and only have 3 days of 2 hour practices. The OL has been horrible this season. Anyways, its a win, and I don't think firing Hackett mid season and replacing him with Marrone would improve things greatly.

The "experts" take - Bills at NYets
Wayne Cubed replied to CodeMonkey's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think the game will be decided in the defensive secondary. I like the Bills receivers better and I like the Bills secondary better. I'd almost encourage the Bills to pass a lot. It'll wear down their DL and possibly open up the run game. -
I expect the offense to improve significantly...
Wayne Cubed replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm not sure that's relevant to my point, but I would say without looking probably higher. A team can't relay on explosive long play TD's. My point is that the offense is moving the ball judging by the amount of trips inside the redzone. -
Hackett is bad, like very bad
Wayne Cubed replied to Clippers of Nfl's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The first drive of the game, with a non spread formation went 6 plays 50 yards before a fumble derailed that. I don't have a problem with the spread formation and see its advantages, but when the formation they are using is working, they could have scored at least 4 times last game, I don't get what the argument is. -

You keep moving the goalposts again and again. Detroit is the #1 defense, they SHUT DOWN Aaron Rodgers. What did you expect against them? Not to mention it was Kyle Orton's first start. New England game was completely lost on the Defense in the 2nd half. They folded. And this past weekend, as I've said before, they lost out on points in the redzone because of fumbles in the redzone. It could have been 4 TD's this week without those fumbles, who know. Anyways, I'm done. -

Way to move the goal posts. And no thats not the knock on Orton at all. With Orton at QB he's 7 for 11 with 4 TD's in the redzone. The team has scored 5 TD's in 8 attempts in the redzone. 2 of those were fumbles from this past game. Care to try again? -

I'll add it again, cause I agree with you. The Bills are 11th in average trips inside the redzone per game. They are ahead of New England, Dallas and Denver. They are almost a full trip more per game higher than last year. The offense is moving the ball, plain and simple. -

Ridiculous statement. You have no way of knowing what he has and hasn't changed at the line. And they are soooooo terrible that they are 11th in RedZone trips per game, right? Ahead of New England, Dallas and Denver. -
Hackett isn't using our fumbling players correctly.... Got get them into space.
-
All those baffling play calls where the WR/QB fumbled the ball in the redzone? How dare he call those plays.

See this is where I disagree, how can you say an offensive strategy isn't working when you have 2 fumbles inside the redzone and a total of 4 turnovers? In fact the Bills are 11th in the league in average trips to the redzone per game. Teams that are behind the Bills include, New England, Philadelphia, Dallas and Denver. The Offense is moving the ball. And they have almost 1 more trip per game than last year. -

People are quick to pile on Hackett, but look at this last weeks game, first drive of the game had the Bills in the redzone with the possibility to get at least 3 points, if not 7. They had another drive later end in the redzone by a fumble. I think there was a stat after the first 3 games that showed the Bills were in the top 5 in trips to the redzone, but just weren't converting, and I think a lot of that was EJ. And, if you look at the All 22, there usually is 1 or 2 receivers running open on the passing play. The problems have largely been the OL, which I'm not sure fall on him. EDIT: And just to prove the point more, the Bills are ranked 11th in average redzone trips per game. Teams behind the Bills include New England, Denver and Dallas. -
Interesting note about the final play
Wayne Cubed replied to Rubes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hogan was on WGR yesterday and said they were running it all game, with lots of success. Watkins has an option route depending on how the defense lines up. -
IDK if you follow him on Twitter, but I'm starting to get the feeling that Joe B has a little bit of Timmy G in him. Just some of his comments lately. Very odd.

I am no Offensive Master Mind but.....
Wayne Cubed replied to Nasty's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'll also add, this is a Mike Zimmer defense, ranked 7th in the league. Yea, George Edwards is calling the plays but surely Mike Zimmer has a lot of influence on the scheme. -
Well that'll bring a team crashing right back down to earth. Maybe Oakland gets there first win against them as well.

Wayne Cubed replied to Nasty's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I know this is a very unpopular opinion around here, but I thought the offensive game plan was absolutely fine. TWO fumbles in the redzone that would have been at least 6 points but might have been 14. The first one was on the first drive of the game, the Bills drove 50 yards on 6 plays. If the Bills score on those 2 trips the game could've played out very differently. Also, CJ and FJ were both injured before the 1st half, leaving the offensive game play pretty limited in terms of a running game. I know it's just as easy to say Hackett sucks, but the players and the OL need to execute as well. -
Shouldn't have to rally, so "any given Sunday" means nothing to you? Should the Seahawks, the Super Bowl Champs, have to rally against a terrible St. Louis team, who by the way lost to the Vikings? Should the Detroit Lions, the #1 defense, have had to come back against a very weak (this year at least) Saints team? Should the Patriots* have had to block a field goal to win against a 1-5 Jest team? What about the same Jest team that was a pick-6 play away from possibly tie against the Broncos? Any team can win, any week. It happens all the time. It's not just a saying. But of course, now that you're a "realist", that doesn't matter right? Do you hate being a "homer" because they aren't winning the way you thought they should? Because this is a pretty sad way to react after a win. If EJ was the QB behind center and they won in this fashion, I'm sure you'd have no problem with the W. Also lets not forget 2 WR's fumbled the ball and the 2 starting RB's went out, one of them being a very vocal leader for the team. Was it a pretty win? No. Do they need to improve the OL play? Yes. But I would never not be happy about a Bills win. Especially after the injuries and mistakes that were made.

Seahawks Trade Percy Harvin to the Jets
Wayne Cubed replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's great and all, but his 1 actual TD for the year shouldn't have counted. He clearly stepped out of bounds on the run. The guy has been all hype his entire career, never statistically coming close to a #1 receiver. Let's not forget, in season trades rarely work out as there just isn't adequate time to develop chemistry or learn the system. But I'm sure the Jest/Geno will force the ball to Harvin, meaning probably more INTs for Geno.
