I think people are talking about AJ Brown, but definitely there is much more hype around DK Metcalf. I might even agree with you that Brown would be a better pick, but I'd advise in using caution when looking at college productivity to evaluate NFL receivers. Many (most) colleges do not run anything approaching NFL-style offenses, and many (almost all) college receivers are having balls distributed to them from pretty terrible quarterbacks. So, just because AJB caught more passes than DKM in the Ole Miss offense last year doesn't necessarily tell the whole story. QB, scheme, injuries, etc. Guys like Michael Thomas come to mind when considering prospects with limited college numbers . Ceiling/floor, risk/reward. I think most impartial observers would agree that Metcalf has a higher ceiling due to some elite athletic gifts. I think most would also agree that that Brown is more likely to succeed. Those aren't mutually exclusive - question is whether the opportunity cost at #40 justifies a riskier pick. My jury is still out (and this jury isn't convinced they go WR next, either).

I don’t disagree with you in principle, but the Steelers did take a pretty big step back offensively without Bell. They lost 106 carries and 318 yards on the ground and 30 catches and 168 yards in the air going from Bell to Connors. The short TDs were there for Connors though. I think Bell’s antics lead us to forget just how good he was in that Steelers offense.

Love the armchair GMs that assertively say “can’t get separation” who probably watched zero Raiders games and certainly didn’t watch the All-22 of a single Raiders play. That said, I doubt the Bills come calling.

So we spent like 1/50th of our available cap money (not total cap, just available dollars) on a ball-secure, excellent blocking, 4.6 YPC back who also happens to be a first ballot hall of famer who is regarded as a great locker room guy. I get that he isn’t 25, but he literally put up that production a few months ago. In a few more months, how much of his speed, strength, vision etc. will we expect to see eroded? Folks make it sound like every day this guys heart keeps beating he’s losing another tenth on his 100 yard dash...
