  1. In fact, it is arguably the worst situation at the most important position in professional sports.
  2. I understand the instinct to want it all: Wait until 6 and trade up for Mayfield to preserve as many assets as we can. The problem is, NFL Quarterback is the one position in all of sports where you can’t really afford to sit back and wait to see what falls to you. A new regime needs to identify their guy and go get him. You can’t wait and hope the the cornerstone of your entire franchise and offensive system falls to you. You can’t risk another team moving up and sniping you, then settling for what is left. You can take a wait and see approach if you already have something in place, but when you are seeking the face of the franchise, you need to identify your guy and get him. Full stop. Careers hinge on making the right choice. Nobody in their right mind would leave that to chance. If they see The Guy, they are going to go get him. If they don’t see him in this draft, they need to pass altogether. There is no sane middle ground.
  3. You need two things to be perennial Super Bowl contenders: A coach and a quarterback. Without that, your best bet is to fluke a random Wild Card berth every once in a while. How about we try to lock that up and go from there?
  4. Jeez that's tough to watch. Hope he gets the help he needs.
  5. We might have to accept being sad that we didn't draft one of the players we wanted. Just as we were sad that the Colts fluked Andrew Luck, and when the Steelers drafted Roethlisberger and every other time the guy you wanted was snatched away. The bottom line is that the Buffalo Bills aren't entitled to draft anyone. We aren't entitled to have the second pick or the third pick or the first pick. Other teams exist, and they all want the good players too. For now, we are entitled to pick 12th. If we can talk someone else into dealing with us, cool. But, we are not entitled to draft one of the top prospects, unfortunately.
  6. Build around the guy who carried Andy Dalton's pads for him. Adds up. And I like mccarron.
  7. Wait, are you offering a wager that two or fewer quarterbacks will be selected in the top 10? I am willing to wager up to 500$ on this, pending selection of suitable escrow.
  8. Yeah, you're always going to see FIRE SO AND SO every time someone else does anything. That stuff is usually pretty dumb, but you definitely bring that upon yourself if you try to fool people a bit, especially when it comes to quarterbacks. I would assume they are smart enough to realize this though, so we shall see what happens.
  9. I sincerely hope you are correct. Beane is playing a dangerous game with the fans by making it look by all accounts that he wanted to acquire resources to move up to the top for a QB but really wanted to sit back and BPA. It might be the right move, but it's definitely dangerous to lead everyone to believe they were going to get a new QB and instead take a linebacker and corner.
  10. Good lesson here in that you aren't ENTITLED to anyone's pick. Hopefully our front office understood this and have a plan B. There was simply no way to guarantee that you can get exactly what you want - the other 31 NFL teams each have their plans as well.
  11. Keep in mind the Jets only moved from 6 to 3. Only a 3 spot move-up, which is why it only cost them second rounders. Moving from 12 to 3 is MUCH costlier, an order of magnitude so. If the Bills want to pick #2, it's going to cost both first, next years #1, and some other swag.
  12. We definitely all agree - it seems that there are some gaps in your understanding if you thought he was going to get a 3-year deal worth $10 million total lololol.
  13. Another point for the "we should have signed the other guy instead! He's better!" crowd: The Bills are not entitled to sign any particular player. There are 31 other teams, and they want the good players too. Free agents with market value may not want to sign with the Bills for any number of reasons. You don't just get to magically take whoever you want by offering $1 more than the competition.
  14. I had it at 5 for 55 w/ 28 guaranteed so I was a tiny bit high, but definitely a market value deal. Great signing that continues to make incremental improvement to the overall quality of players on the roster. Could he get outplayed by a much cheaper player on a rookie deal at some point in the next 5 years? Welcome to literally every position on every team in the NFL. You need a mix of young and veteran players with different strengths and weaknesses and personalities. Two thumbs up.
  15. I know this OP is a troll, but to address a more reasonable-sounding point that some are making: "With the Jets, & Broncos getting their QB's i think one might make it to us at 12 !" Please don't forget that other teams can be just as motivated to trade up and nab a potentially elite quarterback - even those without a glaring immediate need at the position. With a position that important, you simply cannot afford to sit back and wait to see what falls to you. Identify your guy, and if you evaluate them to possess elite potential, you do what it takes to pull the trigger.
  16. Honest question to the haters: Why do you think that many top NFL personnel folks and scouting services feel that Allen is worthy of a top -5 pick in the draft? Are they just dumb? Easily misled? Bad at their jobs? Paid shills?
  17. If they'd trade him, we don't want him. If they want him, we can't have him. /thread
  18. One of the WR-neediest teams in the NFL just cut him. Don't overthink this one, friends.
  19. I too see there being strong potential that Josh Allen is the guy they covet. Obviously, we're all just reading the tea leaves and speculating. It's a bit insane how so many here lash out strongly when someone suggests one of the prospects that aren't their own pet pick. Allen (and Rosen, Mayfield, Darnold, Jackson, Rudoph, and everyone else) has strengths and weaknesses, but to suggest that it would be a "serious problem" if that is their choice is just plain dumb. There is no consensus, aside from these guys being potential top-10 picks in the draft and potentially elite prospects. There is a strong chance that Josh Allen is the #1 pick in the NFL draft. Saying that he might be the Bills top choice is reasonable. I honestly can see any of the top 4 prospects being drafted by the Bills, from a variety of draft spots. None of them would be a "dumb" pick, at least with the information that us lay fans have to work with.
  20. What's your source for the all 22 film that you've been analyzing? Tons of people here apparently have access to that with all the analysis they do, share!
  21. I understand your argument, but having Nathan Peterman and Joe Webb as the only two rostered quarterbacks keeps the Bills firmly on the no-go list with Jordy's agent. I'm willing to be surprised.
  22. You probably would have to, honestly. Or at the very least, credibly threaten to.
  23. I don't believe Foles is coming to Buffalo. The Eagles need him, and we aren't going to break the draft pick bank when all our actions seem directed at building resources to fire a missile at an elite QB prospect. I do not have a read on McCarron, in terms of what kind of situation/money he is looking for. We shall see. Wouldn't be surprised if we bring in a less hypey vet to go with our trade up.
