Goodell Admits NFL Was Wrong Not to Listen
stuvian replied to K-9's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Kaepernick's coming back. Nothing else will suffice. These protests will spill over into the season. A sea change is at hand. Business as usual won't cut it. -
that photo is ten years old. I'm much older, balder and grumpier now

my fear for the Bills is that that as they reach their peak under Beane - McDermott, Covid 19 will derail their season like the baseball strike did to the 94 Montreal Expos. I think we are on the verge of major social change regarding race relations. The status quo doesn't work any more. You cannot have an identifiable segment of the population excluded from opportunity, prosperity and equality. We cannot be cavalier about the loss of life of black people at the hands of the state. We cannot have a justice system where persons of colour are not afforded the presumption of innocence. We also need to redefine what is meant by "Good Policing". Having people die in custody for passing $20 of counterfeit, selling single cigarettes or shop lifting can never be consider good police work. The video by the African American NFL stars demanding accountability by the league regarding Kaepernick cannot be ignored. Canada has racism too. This isn't just about the USA.

Brandon Marshall, Terrell Owens and Randy Moss are good case studies of WRs who have played under different QBs of varying quality

Football in a pandemic era. It’s been done before..
stuvian replied to Chandler#81's topic in Off the Wall Archives
that link was a great and thought provoking read. I'm expecting football to be played in front of little or no fans to start the season. TV money is better than no money at all. Death is inevitable but societal shut down is not. A pandemic is one thing but a great depression as a man made response is stupid. The majority of deaths are among residents and workers in eldercare facilities. This is where the lockdown should occur. We have had better promotion of social distancing today than in past pandemics. -

Can Stefon Diggs Emerge as a Superstar in Buffalo?
stuvian replied to jletha's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Diggs will enable us to score quickly instead of slogging through a long drive. I think he'll get the targets he's seeking. It's very astute of Beane to bring in someone like Diggs instead of hoping a rookie WR fulfills his promise given where Allen is in his development. We don't have forever. If Diggs and Allen get in sync it could be magical -

Big Ben is back - Steelers AFC North favorite?

just can't imagine Ben playing ten games this year -
There was a good discussion on this on Mad Dog. The advocacy can't wait until the HG/GM level. They need to increase the pool of minority candidates in the entry level ranks. Another challenge is the skewing of new hires to offensive coaches for which minority candidates are under represented. https://www.thebiglead.com/posts/nfl-coaching-changes-have-been-offensive-and-we-are-at-a-crossroads-01dxm4rf5jyh

THE ROCKPILE REVIEW - Michael Jordan and McDermott's Process
stuvian replied to Shaw66's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think Jordan was fun to be around. I do think he was all powerful and ruled by fear. I think he was more powerful than his coach, his owner and the commissioner. Not only was he bigger than the sport, during his reign he was the sport. His ridicule of his GM would have gotten any other player fired or traded. The other Bulls teammates were carefully chosen so as not to overshadow him or threaten him. They were role players. The only one he didn't bully was Rodman who cannot and will not be controlled. But Rodman held himself to the same standard as Jordan because he is internally driven. As long as he delivered on the court his off court life was his own. We may never see a team sport dominated by a sole individual like Jordan again. I personally don't see much of what lessons from this can be translated to the Bills. I think we may have the best coach/GM combo in football and we clearly have a program where if you don't commit, you are sent packing regardless of talent. Maybe Stefon Diggs will be our Michael Jordan. -
