I think he was drunk when he said that...

Me too. It will be interesting to see. GB's passing defense is ranked 8th in DVOA and the DVOA offensive ranking of their schedule so far is 29th. They have faced 184 attempts (26 per game) and given up 6 TDs and had 2 INTs. Part of the reason they have ony faced 184 passing attaempts is because teams are running on them (204 Att @ 29 Att pergame) at almost 5 YPC. They have the 31st ranked rushing defense in DVOA. The Bills' passing defense is ranked 4th in DVOA and the DVOA offensive ranking of their schedule so far is 4th (including the 2nd, 3rd, and 5th ranked passing offenses in DVOA). They have faced 204 attempts (29 per game) and given up 5 TDs and had 10 INTs.

I won't disagree with you that there have been QBs (I wouldn't classify any of them as more than average talents who reached their ceilings) drafted and developed in NE that have started / are currently starting in the NFL. However, they were developed under McDaniels and during a period when the team had, arguably, the GOAT at QB. Not exactly the same context as needing to find and develop a QB for the team to be good or relevant again. Based on what I have seen with Belichick, since McDaniel left, has me wondering if he is even capable of doing that.

McDaniels is a pretty good OC and I don't think Belichick realized just what he did for the offense in NE. And, of course, ss long as he had Brady, Belichick never had to concern himself with finding and developing a QB in an era where success is so QB dependent. I have no doubt he dismissed McDaniels' role in the relative success they had last year with Jones and believed it was entirely due to him and his head coaching abilities. The proof is in his establishment of a dual OC concept shared by two people completely incapable of the handling the responsiblity. Now he is absolutely incapable of engaging in the necessary self-reflection and humility necessary to realize that he has f****d the entire thing up. If it keeps going south, I'm sure others will be held accountable

A pretty good article on the QB mess in NE Mac Jones vs. Bailey Zappe: Dawn of Controversy https://www.footballoutsiders.com/walkthrough/2022/mac-jones-vs-bailey-zappe-dawn-controversy

Good post. There was a completely different feel to being a fan before the internet. It is also hard to compare different times, as an old guy, because my experiences as a fan and the ways in which I express my passion have changed along the way as well. I guess, for me, it is less about comparing the different times and more about having a greater appreciation for what we have right now in Allen and this team. Special moments, players, and teams have come along so seldom during the 50+ years I have been a fan.
