Two theories for discussion: #1. Is it because the NFL employs more and more men that aren't "likeable"? Professional wrestling had it right in the 1980s. They understood you needed the heroes and the heels. NFL today, it seems like coaches and players alike enjoy being the heel via on field actions or off it. Outside of wins and loses, is there enough players and coaches that are generally likeable human beings playing the game today? #2 Peyton Manning retired and a lot of people were simply interested in watching him and he was very popular with a swath of football audience that didn't care about the game, but did enjoy watching him and his career.

The more I read about why Myles Jack isn't playing, the more it reminds me of what happened to Aaron Curry, the former Wake Forest, Seattle Seahawk linebacker. He was drafted 4th overall in the 2009 draft and was a pass rush and tackling machine at Wake Forest. A Von Miller for that time. Seattle didn't do any favors for this guy. They started him out strong side and asked him to do things he didn't do well at Wake Forest (pass coverage) and not to do things he did well at WF (rush the passer). They bench him and trade him to Oakland who then turns him into a weak side linebacker - a position he hadn't played before and on top of it, made him again, play the pass more than rush the passer. I see the Jags have already moved Jack from the position he played in UCLA and he's been slow to pick it up. I don't know why organizations don't put their draft picks in positions to succeed and let them do what they do well. The reason he's not playing isn't on Jack or his knees but the Jags not drafting the player they really needed.

You asked if government had a profit motive. In Harrisburg they do. The only reason anything on that list was legislated was to maximize profit to Harrisburg, mostly through fees, not 100% taxes. Of course, they call it "revenues" but the media goes nuts here when gambling money is above what's expected and the archaic state store model hasn't disappeared from PA yet because it brings so much cash into the coffers after paying for all the staff, buildings, etc. Of course, that's state vs. the federal level (you mentioned the IRS).

Just to add - Pennsylvania is selling anything that isn't bolted down because it has major pension and real estate tax problems that it doesn't want to practically fix. Natural Gas (they collect some cash here) Alcohol (the legislature is very very reluctant to give up the state stores.) Marijuana (going to legalize medical use, and they have lucrative fees and taxes attached to the legislation.) Gambling (lucrative fees) Gasoline (they said to pay for transportation but it's really just an excuse to fund the state police they would otherwise underfund) Cigs (big tax on those, and they continually up the tax to balance the general fund) TBH, I can see the day that states start legitimately considering legalizing prostitution. The pension crisis is going to be that bad when the pension rooster comes strutting home.

If I were him, I'd stay in NE and take over after BB retires. None of the Belichick coaches have had long term NFL coaching success outside Foxboro.

I'm one of those 12. He didn't do well. It wasn't a knock out performance and she was far more smooth, practiced. However, she's the status quo candidate. She did not do a good job in telling anyone that the status quo should effectively keep "quoing." She lost because she didn't seize the opportunity to tell that story ahead of the future debates that are going to get mired in the foundation, her emails, her foreign affairs record. She had to talk about how it's morning in America and she did not. Get out ahead of what's coming.

That defense is absolutely tragic. Full of "I've heard of hims" that can't tackle.

I am voting for Trump but I don't think he did very well last night. IMO, he needs to relax and talk about how the status quo isn't working for a lot of Americans. Whether it's deliberate or not, last night's debate was a mirror image of his performance in the first GOP debate. That being said, I think the Democratic strategy is not a winning one. She spent the entire night trying to make Trump look terrible and it's all old news everyone has heard by now. Her best bet was to focus on a positive future, not him. Lester Holt was bad. He was wrong on the stop and frisk "fact check" and he set Clinton up to get crucified over her shortcomings in future debates.

It'll be interesting to see if Lester Holt still has a career by 11pm tonight. I don't understand why he agreed to be a moderator of this debate. He doesn't have the gravitas of Tom Brokaw. He can easily disappear just like Candy Crowley did.

..because I didn't care. Didn't watch the game. Didn't check in on it. Didn't listen to it. I treated the gorgeous Sunday afternoon as if the Bills were on the bye. I do find that the less attention I pay this team the better they perform so maybe I'm the root cause for the last 16 years. I'm pleasantly surprised. Thought the Cardinals were going to come in and wallop the Bills.

People are getting bored with the product. I'll add one to McNasty's fine list: It's football 24-7 now. Too many talking heads, too many shows, too much coverage. Too many national games with the same teams and the playoffs always have the same teams. There's no newness, no suspense. Oh wow. Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady in a Super Bowl ?! New England coaches are hot, wet garbage anywhere but Foxboro. Matt Patricia is one of the smartest men in football because he gets it. The Eagles are a poor comparison. The Browns and Bears (besides being terrible competition) had no regular season corporate intelligence on Pedersen or Wentz whereas the Ravens and Jets had plenty on Ryan and Taylor. The Eagles also rebooted that entire team this year jettisoning Kelly and nearly all of his hand picked players. A complete unknown. Now that there is two weeks of tape on the Eagles, don't be surprised that Wentz all of a sudden looks like the rookie he is.

These clowns are going to get the beating of their life or shot. Or both. They may instill fear in some parts of the United States. In others, it just invites generally well-adjusted people (and parents) to be violent vigilantes and purge some aggression. Nobody likes clowns. Or mimes.

He's about as establishment as it gets and is voting for the establishment candidate. It's ironic because Team Clinton despises Team Bush. Plus he's in his 90s and probably doesn't care.
