PFW: Tom Coughlin the favorite to replace Rex Ryan
dpberr replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think a new coach needs three years to win. The Bills aren't a Chip Kelly apocalypse of odd-fitting personnel. I don't like Coughlin for head coach. Much like Ryan, I don't think his on-field strategy and approach evolved as the game evolved. Further, IMO, he is on a mission to prove the Giants wrong and show the world that his system can still win. Much like our current coach. As they say, you should never make a decision when you're angry. -
I voted to fire him. I think what you see is what you get and it is not enough. Two years is enough time IMO. His body of work has had no pause, no break. I think his lack of taking a year off to reflect hasn't made him a better leader and coach.

Adam Schefter: Rex Ryan to be fired end of season
dpberr replied to Yeezus's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Lots of coaches across the major sports leagues have been fired after having successful seasons record wise. In the NFL, Tony Dungy, Marty Schottenheimer and Hue Jackson come to mind. Hell, Schottenheimer went 14-2 and still got fired. -
It'd be fitting that not only do the Bills make the playoffs but then go out and win the Wild Card game - with a coach, front office and QB the majority of the fan base don't want around next year. That'd be some spectacular irony. IMO, the help that the Bills need isn't completely mission impossible. None of those games are on the level of asking the Jags to beat the Patriots in snowy Foxboro absurdity.

#1 is right on the money. The Patriots "way" is whatever way works from year to year, game to game. There is no "system".

He needs to get in better NFL football shape, something a full offseason-camp should help with going forward.

Sean Payton on the block? (LaCanfora report though)
dpberr replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There would be a big bidding war for his services. Further, the Bills would be up against some dome teams and warm weather teams. The coaching carousel could be big this year with some wild cards thrown in. What if Arians retires? What if the Colts fire Pagano to take a run at Payton? What if the Eagles have seen enough of Pederson? -
No. Darkest days were the days after the Music City Miracle. The decisions made by the franchise after that game served as the ignition point for nearly two decades without playoffs. I bet that would be a riveting documentary to watch.

The Cardinals cut that grenade before it went off in their building. No need for it to go off in ours. We have more than enough substance abuse issues with players under contract to keep us occupied.

Playing Tyrod is flat out stupid
dpberr replied to billsintaiwan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I wouldn't be shocked to see Tyrod play out the season. Pegulas are extending professional courtesy - I think they will let Ryan coach out the season and Taylor play out the season. IMO, that's an order passed down from high command, regardless of wins and losses. He won't want them on the Bills but he also wouldn't want to screw either man out of opportunities going forward by firing Ryan in-season or benching Taylor. Play out the season and you don't have that hanging over your head. I'm convinced that if Whaley has any pull left at all, you would see CJ this Sunday, not Taylor. -
New Chenelly Tweet - Coughlin an option
dpberr replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Tom Coughlin's age isn't the issue. The issue is whether the game has passed by his philosophy and strategy on how to play it. I don't know if it has. We already have that occurring with Rex Ryan. You saw it with Jeff Fisher. The NFL is not the place where you're successful with sticking with what worked for you before. -
CBS: Rex could be fired, TT benched Monday with loss
dpberr replied to NoSaint's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Pegulas only made $26 million on their billion dollar investment last year. That number stunned me considering the Bills made $44 million in income in 2014. The Bills have been dead last in income for many, many years. Revenues is one thing but income is THE thing. If you are Terry and Kim Pegula, I don't think you move that needle with "continuity" or "status quo" or a lousy product. They are losing out in the opportunities of making money in a limited access multi billion dollar sports monopoly. -
IMO, Option #1 has already occurred. There will be no Ryan, no Whaley, no Tyrod and believe it or not, no Brandon, no Overdorf. It is in the Pegulas most basic, selfish interests to get this playoff monkey off their back as soon as possible. Teams that go twenty years without playoffs don't get new stadiums and miss profit making opportunities that successful teams enjoy. Consider this. The Bills made only $26 million in income in 2015, down from a paltry 44 million in 2014. A measly 26 million dollars in a multi-billion dollar league. https://www.statista.com/statistics/193556/operating-income-of-national-football-league-teams-in-2010/

This tells me everybody is getting pink slips. Ryan and Taylor get to play out the year. If Whaley were to stick around, you'd see Cardale Jones out there, Tyrod Taylor in Griffin-wrap and an interim coach. To me, the lack of input from the FO or the owners is deafening.
-
It certainly feels like a day of reckoning for both Taylor and Ryan.

Yes, I hope it's only in jest. You never know with the Talking Dead. They could resort to "theme" nights of getting actors who've long faded into obscurity because they think my idea is a good one.

How does this ship get turned around organizationally?
dpberr replied to ndirish1978's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Bills on-field performance is the problem. They are well run business in many aspects otherwise. We have the luxury of pretty much focusing on on-field matters as a fan base. They aren't a debt-ridden franchise (Cowboys), don't have significant cash flow problems (Raiders), have issues on where they are going to play next year (Rams, Chargers, Raiders), a lackluster fan base (Jaguars), meddling ownership feuds (Saints, Titans) or nightmarish confluence of many of these things (Browns). The Donahoe experiment scared many in the organization. However, I think for the team to succeed, you need to let your general manager run the entire show. He or she picks the personnel - players and coaching staff. I think the team also needs to find a coach that knows where the NFL is going, not where it's been, not where it is. Successful coaches are always on the cusp of the next big thing in the NFL and we last had it with Levy (K-gun, no huddle) and Phillips (his take on the 3-4, especially in 1995.). Since then we've hired coaches either with coaching strategies that are well known and well schemed or outdated and figured out. -
IMO, he'll retire and take a front office job with the Cowboys. I foresee him being trained to be the eventual GM of the team, face of the office. I think there is a lot of loyalty there between Jones and Romo - it's on a Duncan/Popovich level.
-
If Rex would be fired I'd hope the Bills would take a long look at Cowboys Special Teams coach Rich Bisaccia. I firmly believe he's the next John Harbaugh.
-
I hope you saw my sarcasm. Shrader's post reminded me of three shows that used the 90 minute version well - The Shield, Sons of Anarchy and Justified. Wow, FX had quite a run there in retrospect.

Rex needs to be fired no matter what!
dpberr replied to Beef Jerky's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think no matter who is head coach, the defense is in for a major overhaul. I see Brown, Alexander and Gilmore all taking money elsewhere. Kyle Williams and Aaron Williams retiring or being released. Robey-Coleman, Blanton, Ihedigbo, White etc. released. Your component pieces are Hughes, Dareus, Washington, Lawson, Ragland, Brown, Darby and probably Graham at FS. You'll probably have to draft the corner and safety and try to catch some Zach Brown lighting in a bottle for depth. -
I'm sorry Shrader. You have an excellent idea and one that I support. However, you must understand that Talking Dead must be promptly aired and we have yet to exhaust our list of still barely relevant celebrities who binge watched the show right before they were on it. "Yeah, yeah, zombies and stuff. Totally into it." I hope Talking Dead really starts deep-sea - James Cameron meets the Titantic type - dredging for celebrity talent. I can't wait for the opinions and reactions from Tom Wopat and John Schneider or Gerald McRaney and Jameson Parker.

[Misleading Title]Tyrod and blood sugar

Thus thread has the potential to be George Seifert at the airport special. Tyrod now has blood sugar problems. Classic. -
Who is your favorite player on current roster?
dpberr replied to bobobonators's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Favorite: Dan Carpenter. Least Favorite: Marcel Dareus -
I think teams have solved Rex Ryan *and* Jim Schwartz (since he's often mentioned) and no amount of talent is going to change that.
